  1. If you have hearing issues stay with Spotify. I'm 67 and don't ....yet and but you can't predict the future. Streaming can be quite confusing, yet can be done quite simply. I use an Arcam rPlay with the PlayFi app. The app allows access to all of the streaming services and internet radio. I control it from my iPad. I'm using Tidal. I have a MHDT Labs Orchid DAC , a tube amp and preamp driving Heresy III's. Tidal sounds excellent if the recording is good. Not all analog to digital transfers were remastered so some albums are so so. I have not had any significant issues with this set up.
  2. If YOU can't hear a difference and the music sounds good to YOU just enjoy.
  3. It should be quite good sounding. If it has not been checked out by a competent tech I'd do that before you power it up.
  4. Check this wire out. Quite good an inexpensive. https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/speaker-wire/supra-classic-1.6/bulk-cable-per-foot-15-awg/#tab-3
  5. Do some due diligence and check out Dennis Had's Inspire amplifiers. They can use many different out put tubes so you can decide for yourself which tube your ears prefer. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&channel=ipad_bm&ei=fvpXXYDzHcaL5wLYhpOYDA&q=dennis+had+inspire+amplifier+&oq=dennis+had+inspire+amplifier+&gs_l=psy-ab.3..35i39j0i22i30l6.6921.6921..7441...0.2..
  6. I agree on Dennis' Inspire line.
  7. Will you be able to compare the amps before selling the QS?
  8. I'd talk to the tech about replacing all the film capacitors, including the Jensens.
  9. +1 QS is a sleeper company that makes excellent gear. 20 watts will be plenty with K-Horns.
  10. These are excellent and affordable. You may want to research them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-uF-600V-Military-Russian-Paper-In-Oil-PIO-Vintage-Audio-Capacitor-KBG-K-K/253777898791?hash=item3b16576d27:g:EygAAOSw5UdbWbuF
  11. Find a reputable repair shop. Now is not the time to DIY.
  12. Try some Supra wire from Sweden. It's tin plated copper wire, sounds great and is not expensive. Google it.
  13. Look at the Inspire amps and preamps designed and built by Dennis Had the retired founder of Cary Audio. They perform well above their price point. Search inspire amplifier dennis had

    45 amps

I agree and I regret selling my Korneff 45. I ran it with EML solid plate 45's. NOS 45's paled in comparison. If you try them you will be AMAZED. FWIW, I preferred the solid plate over the mesh plate.
  15. Supra wire from Sweden is very good and won't break the bank. http://www.jenving.com/products/classic-4
  16. Tube Depot is solid. Time will tell if the new WE 300B will be top dog or a starry eyed idea.
  17. https://www.westernelectric.com/company/management.html Mr. Whitener also founded the Tube Depot in 2000.
  18. I sure it is a great match. I'm driving Heresy III's with a new to me Inspire PSE . It, like the Hot Rod, can run quite a few power tubes. Dennis's Inspire amps all perform WAY above their price point.
  19. I have Heresy 3's and added a http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk5.html This one will work with your amp. Set up was a piece of cake. I did not think I needed a sub until I got one. Big difference. I suggest calling HSU. They were are very helpful. I thought I need two subs. The rep said try one first. He was right. No regrets.
  20. You may want to talk with Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio. He is a Prima Luna and Klipsch dealer. The input tubes have more impact on the sound than the power tubes.
  21. Trust your ears. It's that simple. If it sounds better to you it is better. 😉
  22. Me too. But now my CD's get little play because of the convenience of Tidal. Perhaps CD's will go the way of the LP? I did get back into vinyl but bailed again ten years ago.
  23. I bailed on vinyl but did have this phono stage: http://softone.a.la9.jp/english/Model4/m4-1.htm It was outstanding and, IMHO, a bargain. Softone is an under the radar Japanese company. I still have their Model 3 CD player and use it as a transport. I gave up on vinyl for many reasons, mainly convenience. If you have a pretty good collection of LP's go for it but before going down the rabbit hole be certain that it's the right choice for you. 😉
  24. It might be enough power depending on the music you prefer. IMHO, flea power is best with 100db+ speakers. YMMV.
  25. The 45 is my favorite SET. I had a Jeff Korneff 45 spooky real and the ELM solid plate 45 is amazing. 2A3's have more power and are quite nice too. You should listen to both before deciding. Dennis Had, founder of Cary Audio, is building 300B, 2A3 and 45 amps and selling them on epay.
