  1. @John Chi-town -- that certainly seems a bit weird. Think somebody bought something without permission? 🙂
  2. that looks like a "T" to me, not an "L" -- so they're 1979.
  3. you've got some issues with your attempt to upload pics of the speakers. this web site supports the direct upload of files that are under 1mb. can you try again?
  4. if you can't provide pics, there's no way for anyone here to be of significant help. what are they worth . . . maybe between $1000-$2000 depending on condition and your market.
  5. I think the logic of oiling periodically is that you keep the wood from drying out. However, like you've said, there are so many examples of 40+ year old speakers that have survived the test of time and look beautiful as is. Using Howard's Feed and Wax seems to be a good compromise to me - provides some degree of protection without changing the color or finish.
  6. Just added some older Quicksilver Mid Monos to one of my systems. They are really great sounding and drive the KEF Ref 1s surprising well.
  7. Singles are tough to come by -- hopefully you'll work out something with @jstrid. Otherwise, probably easiest to find a pair and just use one. You can either store the other or sell it yourself.
  8. you're correct that it's -10db on the heresy ii. it's -9db on the heresy 1. the autoformer isn't used on the heresy iii, so someone with more knowledge than me would have to provide that info. here are the crossover networks for the various heresy (except the iv):
  9. Here is the pic of the backs of my 84s. Backs are near perfect - this was clearly how it came from the factory.
  10. @Dave MacKay -- the location of that barrier strip has been all over. On my 75 Heresy 1, it's towards the top as described above, but off to the right with the label in the middle. I just picked up a pair of 84 Heresy 1.5 and the barrier strip is located where your binding post cup is. I can get a pic later tonight.
  11. @michaelwjones I'm so bummed I missed out on these!
  12. @HowieM - your pics are very small so it's difficult to see the condition of the speakers. Upload some better pics to postimage please.
  13. Like new, lightly used Parasound JC-5 amplifier. As the pictures show, it has no scratches of blemishes. Has lots of power but also a lot of finesse -- it operates in Class A for the first 12 watts. Throws off a wide and deep soundstage with my KEF Reference 1s without breaking a sweat. Comes with all original boxes, packaging, and accessories. This is a fairly large and heavy amplifier (73 lbs), so I don't want to risk shipping it. I'm in New England and happy to have it picked up or dropped off (if reasonably close) or meet at a mid-way location. Price is $4000 -- they're $6500 new. Cash preferred. Buyer pays Paypal fees. You can check out my feedback under the same handle (jcn3) on Audiogon and Head-Fi.
  14. SOLD! Had a lot of interest and multiple bidders.
  15. [SOLD] For sale is a pair of 1988 Oiled Walnut Chorus I speakers. As can be seen from the pictures, the speakers are in excellent condition all around and the walnut veneer is beautifully matched. There are a couple of dings on the risers. No watermarks or stains on the tops. Grills are clean and have the logos. The tags are faded, but very under close inspection you can make out the first digits of the serial numbers indicating they were manufactured in 1988. The speakers sound wonderful -- they have a huge soundstage and the bass is great. Price is $1200, cash. Pick-up/drop-off only -- they're large and would be expensive/difficult to ship. They're in Hanover, NH (best equipment to demo them is here) but can be relocated to metro Boston if needed. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Jim
  16. @Chandz -- when i was demoing cornwall ivs, i thought they sounded best with my parasound jc5. they seemed to really respond to the tight grip the amp had on the bass and the imaging was pinpoint. thought it sounded better than a primaluna evo 400. i would think they would sound marvelous with the hegel. (i haven't heard the cornwall ivs with anything low powered) your heresys are rather easy to drive -- they can work with just about anything. i would think the hegel 590 would be overkill. not the same speaker but with my heresy 1s i'm using a 10 watt amp and it sounds great. that same amp also sounded great with the heresy iv. wait until you get the r8 and try it with both and see what you think!
  17. don't assume that straight at the listening position is the best angle for imaging (it should provide the most forwardness, though). for my kef reference 1s, firing straight down the room is the best. for my heresys, having them toed in to cross a few feet in front of the listening position is best. for the chorus 1s that i just got, having them toed in to cross 4-5' in front of the listening position is best. for a deeper soundstage, moving the speakers out into the room will help. for a wider soundstage, i would try moving the speakers closer together. bottom line, enjoy playing around with them! you'll find the spot! edit: last random thought. for the chorus 1s i have and when i tried cornwall, any sort of absorption behind klipsch speakers seems to not work well. my kef reference 1s love the bass traps placed in the corners behind them.
  18. If you have walnut veneer on your Cornwalls and they were originally oiled, then you do not need to add any color. I would lightly sand the cabinets with 000/0000 steel wool, wipe clean, then apply a couple of coats of Watco Tung Oil (apply, wipe off excess, wait 24 hours, repeat). I just freshened up some ca 1960s HM Eames Lounge chairs doing the same thing and the results were stunning -- Tung Oil really bring out the color of the wood and dries with a matt finish. Going forward, you'll only need to dust or wipe with damp cloth. Note that Watco Tung Oil is pure tung oil -- it is not diluted with other chemicals like "tung oil finish" or "danish oil finish". I wouldn't use the "restore" products as they are a combination of chemicals and typically have color added which you really don't need.
  19. have you tried calling klipsch to see if they have advice? maybe try and get in touch with the head of the sales dept. they're definitely out there. for instance, audio video therapy in nashua, nh (yes, i know they're not close to you) has all of the heritage line of speakers available to demo.
  20. @HotGlass -- I'm not so sure about the accuracy of that list. For instance, InMotion is located in DFW airport so they clearly wouldn't have speakers but would have headphones. Ranger American is a security systems company . . .
