  1. Maybe but the guy is a "sub-moron" meaning that with a lot of hard work and diligence he may be able to work his way up to moron. I say this because I looked at Gregg's ebay auction. He has over 500 feedback 100% positive and a link to a bunch of Klipsch restorations, all much higher quality than anything that I would hope to build. The last thing is that a guy with well over $10,000 of heritage speakers is not going to try to scam someone out of $50. Gregg, Send you should send this guy a link to this thread. He will get the warm fuzzies over how much we appreciate his "knowledge" and complete lack of social ability.
  2. Yea, best case, in a room with 4 good corners there are just four potential placements (assuming that diagonal will not work).
  3. You had me at first. It just bothered me that it does not show the card that you picked. Seemed like a cop out.
  4. Why bother? People like that will never admit they are wrong so let it go. There are quite a few like that around here (not referring to anyone on this thread).
  5. The BS Meter is pegged. Try this, memorize all of the cards and then compare them to the cards that are shown at the end.
  6. Check out the frequncy response. Starts at "DC." What does that mean? The Crown M600 Audio Amplifier is a commercial quality amplifier. Frequency range of DC-45kHz with 600 watts (8 ohms) or DC-40kHz with 1000 watts (4 ohms). 0.05%THD. http://testintl.com/details/CROWN_M600.htm
  7. Try different source material. If Diana Krall CD's or other newly recorded CD's sound full and have nice bass your stuck. My K Horns always seemed lean in the bass until I went with an active EQ. I tuned them by ear and liked the results. B&W's did the same thing. No deep bass punch in teh pit of yoru stomach because most music is not recorded that way. (Be ready, someone here will tell you to get Jubilees and this thread will be a downward spiral).
  8. I was watching the CNN coverage and thinking about how badly the people there are suffering from the floods and how we so desperately need that water here in the desert (but not as a flood). The world is very unfair.
  9. The "stock biwire terminals" sounds like he just has the bass cabs hooked up. Don't you run a wire from the bass cabs to the top end?
  10. I'd love to be the one who returns the truck to the rental hut. You would want to drop it off in the middle of the night. Get dress up in ripped clothes and makeup like you've been in an explosion and with a straight face say that the truck had the damage when you picked it up. When the guy starts to flip out offer him $47.82, 1/2 a six pack and a copy of "jugs" to foget about it.
  11. I have this in a pair of La scalas I am rebuilding is there a better crossover or some mods that can be done to this one? Build a pair of type A's. You should be able to use your same inductors (2.5) and you might be lucky and have T2 transformers (I got lucky with a pair of AB's and just needed to buy caps). Make sure that you add fuses to the tweeters.
  12. Yea but "no medical insurance" apparently makes for much more stress. Sorry, I couldn't resist. [6]
  13. I use a behringer 2496 eq. I program what I call a 1/2 x-curve (cut 1.5 db per octave at 2.5 Khz, 3.0 at 5Khz, etc) and then run pink noise to compensate. Afterward I usually have to make a slight adjustment to optimize. With the EQ off it sounds very good, with it on, there is a noticable difference (usually midrange clarity). I could live without it but I already own it and it does make a positive difference. I made all of my interconnects and the thought of $800 cables doesn't do it for me. A friend lent me a pair of very expensive speaker cables insisitng that I try them, I didn't like them in my system, but they definately sounded different than my cables. The EQ makes more of a difference and it is an improvement.
  14. I use a Denon DL160 with Sumiko headshell on an SL1210 MK2. Very satisfied so far.
  15. Here is a nice one. The MK5 has the upgraded wiring in the tonearm. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1215648818 This table is currently $500 on Musiciansd Friend (a deep discounter). http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=technics&st= If you end up going with an Audiophile table later you will get your $$ back out. I actually went from a VPI scout to the Technics.
  16. Bruce, Speaking of being in your rotation, I was just thinking as I listen (I am on disc 2), this is one of those CD's (and a double CD for that fact) that you just put in and hit play. No big urges to skip any songs. Quite a bargain at $12. If I had a DVD player in my system I would get their live DVD (also $12). Rolling Stone has also steered me to Jackson Browne's two live accoustic CD's. They are in my "A list" CD's.
  17. Bel Canto makes nice equipment. My only experience was at CES, but it sounded good to me. I have heard others rave about the monos. I am really happy with my amps or I would give them a try.
  18. I agree about their age. The interesting thing is that I'm older too, so it works. If I was looking for the Eagles high energy 70's music, this is not it. It is more of their slower sound. I like it at 39 years old, I don't know if I would have liked it at 17 or 22. I also listen to a lot more jazz now. As far a piracy, probably the wrong age group. Don't know.
  19. Flynn, I just ordered teh Crosby Nash CD after listening to the samples on Amazon. Looks liek a good CD. I hesitated to buy the Eagles CD until my wife insisted that I buy it. I had to explain that most group's reunion CD's are usually pretty bad. I don't think that this is a classic or all time besyt, but for $12 it is very good. The latest issue of Rollling Stone has the Wal Mart explanation. The Eagles had less interference in the making if the CD. But the big answer. They get $4 per CD which is two times the usual royalty. My calculus is that at $12, they will also sell about three or four times as many (I would not have bought this double CD at $25 or $30). In the end, they probably made about six to eight times what they would have made through a label.
  20. I just picked this up tonight. We were at Wal Mart and I read about it in this month's Rolling Stone. Say what you will about the political message, it is a very good CD. At this point I am just happy to be able to buy a well recorded CD that I like, and the recording is very good (at least what I have heard so far).
  21. I'm with Dean on this. I have had SS equipment sound much more like you expect tubes to sound than tube equipment.
  22. Kaiser, I am on the same page as you. I have a slipped disc and bought a massage chair about 7 or 8 years ago. I still use it every day. It really helps to loosen things up.
  23. Try unplugging it. If that does not work, KABUSA.com may have the part or be able to direct you.
  24. Check out the thread on audiogon that I posted above. I think that you have the same basic table and arm.
