Mallette
Well, when it comes to cheap, there is OPPO. When it comes to accurate, there is OPPO. When it comes to... well, that's about it. Dave
Moderators dtel Posted December 5, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 5, 2009 $29 cheap there are many, $200 cheap I would also say Oppo.
o0O Bill O0o
I have heard nothing but good things about Oppo disc players. But if your are going cheap then Sony Disc Player These days, no one sells cheap CD player "only" models.. If you wanted some thing nice you could throw some coin down on a NAD, Cambridge Audio, or Rotel CD player. Even cheaper, you get an Apple Airport express w/ a mini TOSLINK (fiber optic digital cable) connector and a Fiber optic cable, and connect that to your digital in and use iTunes via your computers CD drive and WiFi to stream the Audio to your Stereo. wait you don't have a digial in?? get with the times! lol, kidding, just use a 3.5mm headphone to RCA cable instead.. won't sound as good as the digital method, but still sound good. -Bill

Dave I have to agree, if you keep an eye out for them on the bay you can sneak in on a good one for well under $100. Plus if you ever need a dvd player it would be a great option. Groomlakearea51
On the cheap? Buy a cheap DVD player..... 'cause they also (usually) play CD's..... and you also have a spare DVD player for the just in case area of operations.....

fwphoto
I got a mint Rega Planet with remote, box, manual, etc., for $250 onAudiogon. Don't know if that's cheap to you. I wasn't looking forcheap, just inexpensive. ;-) Couldn't be happier through tubes &Forte IIs.Frank W.
Dylanl
Dylani, What is "on the cheap" to you? What is max you will spend? Bill I would spend 200.00 but for that, I would want to be happy with it for quite a few years. From what I read, to get a DAC for my computer that is any good would be around 1,000 and that is way over the top for my budget. I bought the old TOSHIBA that all the talk was about a few years back ( on this forum 59.00 ). It served me well but is now falling apart. I wobbles so bad it shakes the other audio equipment around it. In the end I would like something that puts out a nice "warm signal" The Ground Grid preamp seems to make the Khorns a little bright again. willland
Here is an awesome universal player. Great sonics, great video, built solid(19.2 pounds). http://cgi.videogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?sorcdvda&1262643754 http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/transports/dvd-players/yamaha-dvd-s2300-mk2 Send a PM to forum member JHoak about his opinion on the Yamaha. Another excellent choice. A little more money but even better audio and video. http://cgi.videogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?sorcdvda&1263079597 http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_12_1/denon-dvd-3910-dvd-player-1-2005.html No affiliation with these links. Mallette
I did not this time nor have I checked the OPPO site in a while, but most of the line except for the BR unit and the 981HD were/are 200 or less and I rather doubt most ears will tell the difference in CD, SACD, DVD-A or DVD playback on any of them. All best in class when it comes to price/performance, and for 99.9 percent of us, best in class period. Dave PS - Apparently, I stand corrected. Went to the OPPO site and didn't see anything but the BR units. Seems they've decided to head upstream. Looks like you'll need to look on Ebay, etc, to find the rest of the line. Shame, but I guess a small company has to focus on core products.
Marvel
Shame, but I guess a small company has to focus on core products They make more products, they just don't sell them here. My fiancee has an Oppo media player with really nice features, and a lot cheaper than an iPod. The only problem is the manual is only available in Chinese. jamesV
What exact model are you all referring to and is this used or new? Oppo Oppo is only currently selling the BR players but you can find the other models on the bay. Here are the specs from the Oppo site, you have to look under "Customer Service" then "Support" to find the models. Moderators dtel Posted December 5, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 5, 2009 Sorry I didn't know that , the last time I went to the Oppo site they still had all the models and were right at $200. Sounds kind of crazy not to still sell a good cd player. I know it's not in the $2oo range but is this CD player any better than the average like they claim ? http://emotiva.com/erc1.shtm
