oldtimer
Roasting is a no brainer. If you have never made your own chili puree I can fill you in. It's another product which will put you in the realm of the pros. There is no real answer to the fumes, except do it in a well ventilated situation. oldtimer
I love beans. All kinds of beans. I cook a variety of beans in a variety of styles. I have never expressed any animosity towards beans. Beans are great. They have nothing to do with roasting chiles and they have no place in chili however.

Good to hear that you're a fan of the bean--they're a staple of my diet. Beans the colon's best friend.
