deep3shot
If not for stumbling upon this forum a couple of years ago, I wonder what other compulsive curiosity would have held hostage my free time and confiscated my wallet. What landed me here was remembering my uncles stereo gear of the mid '70's and how fascinating it was to lie on the floor listening to records while reading the album covers. Having grown tired of home theater I was desperate to get back to 2-Channel audio and getting lost in the music. Reading forum members gear suggestions, reviews, and stories have guided me into this wonderful and punishingly expensive hobby. For this I am both grateful and resentful. If not for you what other obsession would have me scouring the dark corners of the internet for 25 year old gear and being wryly evasive when my wife asks me " Why a guy named Sam just returned your call about some speakers?" So here's where I'm at now thanks to you, it's your fault. My current set up with my first tube amp. It turns out you folks are right about tubes and amps, damn you. deep3shot
Sansui AU 20000, Denon 2900, Music Hall DAC25.3, Squeezebox Touch, Miracord EL40, Juicey Music Blueberry Xtreme, Single Ended Pentode amp, and LaScala's w/ CT 125 tweets and Crites Crossovers. BTW the ***'s in above posts were not the F bomb, it was aversion of "dang" for the record.

CECAA850
Klipsch 1, wallet 0. Great looking room. No need for acoustic panels?
deep3shot
CECCAA850: I do indeed need room treatments as this room is an acoustic challenge. The problem is I do not want to ruin the aesthetic in order to do it. There is always a piper to pay in any comprimise. Likely I will put some throw rug down and possibly some removable panels. I originally was going to put my Khorns up there but short wall is only 11' 10" wide and the sweet spot would be about 8' infront of the wall. The LaScalas sound very good at moderate volume. billybob
Be interesting to hear sonic difference with just the throw rug. Nice looking setup, to say the least.
ricktate
I think you should try Grippers on the bottom of the Scalas... Andy [HBDR] told me about this years ago. Rick
muel
Another version of a familiar story... thanks for sharing! Don't just start throwing acoustic treatments around. Take a look at Jim Smiths, "Get better sound." Just following a couple of his tips more than paid for the book!
Daddy Dee
deep3shot, great system and room, too! could you say more about your SE Pentode amp? are you the builder?

deep3shot
Daddy Dee- It is an RH-84 DIY design that was assembled by an AudioKarma member. I really do not know a great deal about it as this is a very recent purchase. This is the beginning of my education right now. My impressions of it so far are quite favorable. It throws deeper , richer soundstage for certain. The Sansui AU 20000 is impressive and very detailed but a perhaps thin sounding by comparison. The RH-84 is less detailed but more engaging if that makes any sense. One thing is certain, the LaScalas sound like they were made for this amp. deep3shot
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys. I appreciate it. This room is the audio equivalent of a pin ball machine. This weekend I'll throw down a rug in front and see if there is an improvement and go baby steps from there. Here is another view:

billybob
Looks like a fun room, just to hang out. Lots of hardwood floor. Maybe just any old large throwrug in the near listening area will make a difference you can like/detect. Thanks for letting us know. One step or move at a time makes sense, in my limited opinion. Quiet_Hollow
Beautiful setup. [Y] Yes, difficult room for good sound indeed, but ya gotta love how the 'Scalas simply disappear into the woodwork. []
chisoxpurdue
May not be exactly what we think of as a listening room, but on the positive side, less standing waves in the room.
Deang
You'd be surprised at how good things can sound in a room like that. I think the throw rug is a must, and something on the side walls to catch those early reflections -- speaking of which -- I would probably toe those Scalas in just a wee bit more. My room is similar, but a foot wider -- and I had Jubilees on that short wall. []
