Detel looks to be enjoying the Flyboy lifestyle, and yes it is dam sure pricey. Iv been involved in flying since 8, had i not had a few great paying aerospace gigs in Socal, i would never be able to afford a plane payment. Had i not had my Dad's Aviation related inheritance, i would not be in it today. Last 40 years, im asset rich and cash poor. I will likely be selling my 185SP after the move to Reno area, 26hrs on a plane that is 15 years old, and that is since "New". That is a lot of weight to loose that fast, but I bet you feel better ? Flyboy lifestyle no way, wannabe, positively But that can't possibly happen. It's going to be hard to sell that plane, with only 26 hours it should be worth a lot to say the least. One thing I wanted to say is these planes were spotless, inside and out. He said the red 2 set plane had just been repainted not long ago but all of them looked repainted. This little experimental plane is owned by a friend of his, he said no one here will fly it, it's not a matter of if something will break but when it will break. I don't blame him at all. The other pic was taken at the airport, a gold painted engine, I don't know whet it was out of but looked cool. 215 to 185 in two and a half weeks, well everyday started with two mile walk to get to eat, then walk back to the air park and work 8+ hrs heavy, then two mile walk for dinner, then of course back. Did not move up behind Bob's diner and get the Golf cart till the last 5 day's. wife brought that up also, said she was starting to "Like" the walks. walks i was good with too, except carrying that 44 and constantly looking down, seems snakes love the asphalt when the sun goes down. So have any idea where you might be moving or have y'all just been busy cleaning out the hanger ? Sounds like a good change, especially if you find a new place that really fit what you two want. Maybe hit the pawn shop(s) loop, that is a three mile round the city walk. It's a good walk because the wife knows she can buy anything she wants, she just needs to carry it. Came up with that offer to her 15 years ago, and so far it's worked well up to last year, im looking at the counter of one of these Pawn shops, she has a rather large clock, big, heavy clock, real wood, so you feeling strong today dear? No, i just really want this clock, and im buying this too, pointing to a baby stroller Chit, beat at my own game. My doc is a proponent of 10,000 steps a day. I wore a pedometer for quite a while to see if it could be done. Night flying? FUN! But, I always had my place to land in different areas... One evening after work, I took one of the fellows that worked at the tire shop next to our shop, as he wanted to see HIS place and his girl friend's as well... This is a lot of hill town area, not much population. So, it got totally into nightfall, pitch black when you looked down. It was then he decided he NEEDED to go to the bathroom !! He knew how far it was to get back to the home airport. So, I said that I knew about where we were (even with NO real reference to what was down below) But, there was an 'uncontrolled' airport in that area, AND one I had NEVER landed at before!!... I took out my Flight Guide (Mark knows what I am talking about) and looked up the radio freg. to control the lighting to that particular apt. I hit the mike a few times and low and behold, out of complete blackness under us, the runway lighted up !!! So, I went away from the airport, announced my position and set myself up into the pattern and landed! Happily he just needed to take a leak out on the grass somewhere and before long, we were back in the air headed to home base ... All adding up to a little more flight experience and passengers. I am sure that Mark has many a 'war' story to add ... Oh, and thanks for the compliment on that photo and Music Hall.... It was SIX hours of listening bliss and ... Good call i think, these are my guy's, they have refurbished more than one of these over the years. Still here at the Casino, wife is good with a day of doing nothing too. When we walk in to the Pawn shops, she goes straight to the Jewelry, i go for anything on a shelf, Amps, Speakers,Generators. As we were flying we were talking and I was told it's a good idea to always be looking for a flat place to land in an emergency, he said the trickey part is what you said , wires, there a little harder to see sometimes. After I told him I didn't have a problem becoming addicted to flying because of the cost to learn and own a plane would be impossible for me. I told him it was way to expensive for me, he said " it depends some people call putting out $200,000 as expensive ", I said YEA I would, he just smiled. Funny, back when I started flying in the 70ies, you could buy a brand new 172 for the current cost of those SIX bangers ! Why was it that Cessna changed engine brands back in those days? I never read the history and what caused that decision. But I see they were still pretty popular with Beechcraft.... Just before is arrival time, there was a knock on the door and the postman handed me a box...... Textron would have that anser. most Cessna parts are being made in china in the last 20 years. just another American sellout as far as im concerned. Always been partial to the high wing design and the Skyhawks. Your engine would be made by Lycoming at least.. I remember back when the more updated model was the 'XP' ... Again, years ago, and before they stopped making most all those fun aircraft.. Only had the cowling off twice for some Cessna rep to look at. Got the SP because it's leather and a few other upgrades, and at the time i had to flip the cash, sold one,bought one. 23 years ago moving to Norcal from Socal the ONLY (Open) hanger space i could find at the time was in Frisco area, Airpark Fee's,and Hanger fee's were $60, today $270, With everything from Bridge tolls to taxi Fee's i dont even visit my bird but twice a year. this will end next mo, next time there im outta there. For now Mcarren Hanger will fit it just fine, this one i leased, the other one i purchased. but the other one is a mess now.
