eth2
was the top and sides the same BR when you bought them. Yes, but they were in poor condition. I had to sand them, and then decided to stain as I did not want to take a chance on sanding to deep into the veneer and there were still imperfections. I left the dog houses alone as they were in good condition. They are unique.
eth2
Earl, BACK AWAY FROM THJE BELT SANDER. Better yet, cut the plug off it to remove any temptation. Those are Purdy. They need to be cleaned. There is a slight discoloration on the top of one and the side. It looks like there was dust or something and it got damp. Max2
Awesome looking LS's Earl. The heart banding in that Veneer is very cool. So are you going to oil these?

Carl wants me to paint them black. I would like to hand sand them (220 grit?) first to try and remove the slight discoloration on the top and side of one cab. Thanks Edited July 1, 2014 by eth2

Carl wants me to paint them black. Thanks I would try different oils, but that's the finish I am after. If you are wanting black and I was not half way across the US, I would give you a set a minty Indy LS's and money to boot for that pretty raw wood. Flip them upside down and experiment on the dog house door. Im going back to a wood finish with mine, if my back will ever heal and I can get them down the stairs and out to my garage. Trust me, black gets old very quickly. Oh, and good luck with the sale on your other pair! BTW, what X-overs do they have? Heritage_Head
I was talking about discussion concerning the SALE. But you knew that didn't you? Your right I was razzing you a bit. My bad sorry. We don't see eye to eye on one small topic. No reason we can't still be friends ps: Congrats on those new LS they look really nice.

They have the original AL-3's. I think everything is original Edited July 1, 2014 by eth2

They may perform a little better at higher levels than your other pair. Use a oscillating DA sander if you don't already have one, no scratches using one of these and 220 disks.

CECAA850
What do you suggest? Carl wants me to paint them black. Bedliner actually.
Mystik Cabs
You could even start with 320 if they aren't too bad, then block sand in the same direction as the wood grain to eliminate any random circular scratches from the DA. Would you consider delivering the pair you are selling for an additional fee? To Connecticut, down by the Foxwoods casino?
Budman
as white as they are i think someone has already sanded them down recently. be careful not to sand to much off

eth2
I have been sitting in the garage listening to the LS's (original set). They really do sound great...even playing Spotify. I guess I will keep them for now. I worked so hard on the cabs, and even though they are far from perfect, they look kind of cool. A little like a camo maple tree. How do I tell my wife? It has become like a virus out of control. There are speakers everywhere! "Speakers to the left of me, speakers to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with you."
wvu80
Re: sanding Based on my one and only project, I started sanding with 220 and it did not take off any stain. I later discovered that 120 was the proper grit to take off stains, then went to 220 before applying the stain. The 220 is really non-destructive and makes the surface very smooth for finishing. Because I used satin Polyurethane using a paintbrush, after the 3rd and final coat of poly, I followed recommendations on the can and wet sanded with mineral spirits using 600 (maybe 660). This was also non-destructive, but it took the final micro-bubbles off for a smooth finish. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/149241-epic-cf4-needs-overhaul/ +++ Question for Earl: I know you just had the Crites XO upgrade on the old LS. Why can't you use the Crites on the new LS? Edited July 2, 2014 by wvu80

wvu80
"The older LS's have AA's while the newer ones have AL-3's." (Earl) I should have guessed that. I've never had LS's, and I know you La Scala guys LOVE to upgrade the XO's! +++ Edit: I just called you a "La Scala" guy, Earl. That alone should justify your having 4 speakers, two of which you don't need, and a $3,000+ investment. Woofers and Tweeters
I am going to hook these up to my "returned" Phase Linear as soon as the temp drops. Got the amp back after my friend, who bought it for his son, gave it back. Seems his son almost got kicked out of the dorm for uncontrollable urges to crank it. I have never had that urge Great looking speakers Earl.
roverich
Can I bleach them somehow to get rid of the darker areas? The dark areas are natural to the wood ..It is natures beauty mark ...I would stain them and gloss , It you dont dig the finish , then you could paint or bedliner them ... But thats just me .. I would be intrested in a pair of them if you have them around Christmas ...
