Was Wakejunkie a carpenter? He has all the equipment and know how, just wondering.

No, he was a Network Engineer.  He just always loved working with wood and has tons of tools.  He didn't have carving tools so we ordered the set.

Both pieces have been carved.

Lol I love how far down the rabbit hole this project has gone. When I saw the pyramid design I thought, "Wow, I dont know how it can get any more intricate than this..." Then suddenly we are hit with hand carved accent pieces.

I'm talking to him now. He said he's always wanted to try carving something but never had the tools so this is the first carving project.

He made the Harry Potter wand with something and a dremel. He doesn't remember making it.

How's his recovery coming?

He's doing good considering.  He still cannot remember things from one day to the next.  He no longer drives.  Things that used to be easy to do, now require a lot more concentration.  He says "What used to take me 30 minutes now takes me 5hrs".  But overall he's doing well.  No more strokes since the third one.  Believe he is still on blood thinners to help reduce the risk of another stroke.

Yes he has.  After the strokes, he was in a wheel chair, then progressed to a walker.  Now he gets around very well.  Although he has new challenges that he has never had to deal with, it could have turned out MUCH worse than it did.

Unfortunately he recently begun having vision issues in one of his eyes and has begun wearing glasses (don't think they help very much).  Hopefully it will not continue to get worse.

No target date yet.  Taking it one day at a time.

Here is what I know still needs to be done:

1)  Finish carving the rosettes (think there will be 6 - 8 of them)

2)  Just about everything needs to be sanded

3)  Stain the entire project

4)  Varnish the entire project

It's kind of funny....a few months before New Year's, he called and asked if we had plans for New Year's.  I said not really why?  His plan was to try and get it finished by New Years. I told him, "Let's just not put a year on it".  LOL

I absolutely can't wait to make the trip up there to pick it up.  I'll likely take the GoPro and try and document the journey to share with everyone.  Thought about even doing a timelapse of us building it once we get it down here.
