George Cardas' listening room

If i choose to place my speaker wires on top of wooden blocks, or say a little prayer upon every record I place upon my turntable, or run my associated cords at perfect perpendicular angles to one another in the name of good sound and musical enjoyment, is that not in a general sense among the same vane that we all come to this forum for?

There's nothing wrong with doing any of those things if that's what you want to do.  The debate is whether or not it affects what you hear.

I used to own the 1.5QR and I've spent a lot of time in front of the 3a. I did planars for over a decade.

I don't get the "here, listen to my system using YouTube, using your phone, PC, laptop, etc." -- it's not like we're going to come any where near what you're hearing over there.

In 2014 the merits of multimedia as a form of communication aren't even remotely debatable.

Shakey,

If you listen to the video, you'll hear that the Diana Krall track isn't mixed in 5.1, it's actually 4.1

...but seeing as how getting people on an audio forum to actually listen to a video is like pulling teeth as of late, I can see where that would be a problem.

Folks would rather "watch" someone's sound system instead....and "that", I do not get at all.

True, I think that setup in the video needs some serious adjusting, it sounds like my computer speakers.   :(

Maybe he needs a cable change?

he should replace that video for April Fools Day with one that shows monoprice wire throughout the whole system. imagine the nerd rage that would follow.

What if it all got swapped and he went in for his regular listening and didn't even notice a change in the sound. Crap, I can barely distinguish a 5db cut in my Tweeters.

I just noticed the comment section wasn't allowed on the You Tube vid.  Im sure the friendly You Tube society was eating him alive.

Im still trying to figure out why he would want a photo of himself looking like he was peeing in his pants in the vid.  Or worse, making that face while holding  your dog in your lap.

I can't stream through my main system. I do youtube with my ipad, iphone, and PC. How does that give me any insight into how your system sounds?

Understood. Through a main system it'd sound a little strange anyhow as the recording is binaural. All thats required is your choice of headphones.

Insight? You get to see my living room, how things are arranged, wiring, etc. As the mic passes through the sound field, you can get an idea of the acoustics, just like any measurement device would. You can easily hear what the room is doing. Most important of all, we can discuss these things even though we're hundreds of  miles apart.

As far as streaming on an iPad, iPhone (mobile devices), depending upon content, often times it can't be viewed on them due to legal restrictions. This has been affecting a lot of YouTube content providers lately and is well out of my hands.

Naturally, a viewer is not going to be able to experience the floor shaking or their clothes vibrating, even though I'm using 16 ga at the moment. Russ can vouch for that.  ;)
