Amp for Heresys

Hello, I'm looking to get a new amp to drive my Heresys, My current amp a Harman Kardon 300c has started to pop and buzz today and I won't be getting it fixed any time soon so I'm looking for some suggestion on a replacement. Budget is a bit small $300 to $500.

We have an earlier edition of the Marantz PM5005 in a secondary system on a pair of Heresy II's and it sounds great. Have also used it with Cornwall III's in the main 2 ch. system with very good results. It is a very nice little integrated with plenty of power for your speakers. Recommended and it's within your price range. Good luck.

I actually just bought a pair of the same, have not received them yet though.

If you want vintage my first amp for Hesersys was a Marantz 2240. I then went to Dared VP20s which are budget mono block tube amps.  Both worked awesome for me.  You have many many options and undoubtably will be happy with whichever one you choose to go with.

If you want vintage my first amp for Hesersys was a Marantz 2240. I then went to Dared VP20s which are budget mono block tube amps.  Both worked awesome for me.  You have many many options and undoubtably will be happy with whichever one you choose to go with. 

 

I wish I could go vintage but the reason I can't get the HK 300c fixed is that the only local Tech I knew of is long gone.

The PM5005 seems pretty similar to the PM6005 apart from the Coax and Optical inputs, since I already have a DAC I think I'll probably go with the PM5005. Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it.

Up until recently I had been driving my 84 vintage Heresys with an Onkyo Integra A-9711 integrated amp and the combo sounded good to my ears. At the moment it's in need of a repair so right this minute I've subbed in a Pioneer VSX-521-k. I've been very pleasantly surprised at how good a modern "low budget" AVR can sound with vintage Heresys.

 

IF (and that's a BIG if) I can get the Integra fixed I'm not entirely sure I'll be pulling the Pioneer out of service. I'm really liking the extra connectivity. Especially with regard to my various video sources.

 

I like "vintage" amplification as much as the next the next Heritage Klipsch owner but don't rule out modern gear. Some if not most of it is actually pretty good. That said if I had the extra $$ I'd be on the hunt for a Marantz 22XX receiver. Of the series I've found the 2240 and the 2270 models to be the best of the breed. Over the years I've had several and all have been stellar sounding paired with vintage Klipsch speakers.

While they are very good speakers, the Heresy and Heresy IIs are not as efficient as other Heritage speakers, so it would be good to use an amp that is honestly rated @100 watts per channel, with both channels operating

Me too.   I sold my legendary vintage 80's Luxman R-117 to DeanG about two years ago after I picked up an Integra DTM-40.4(same as the Onkyo TX-8050 you used to own) and my Heresy II's are not missing a thing.  Maybe a little headroom(80w/ch vs 160w/ch) but not much of anything else.

I use an H/K 430 twin-power receiver most of the time...my wish list would include H/K Citation V or Citation II...but whose wouldn't??

50 watts/channel, low damping factor, and few/no IC and discrete transistor good alternative to tubes. McIntosh's MA 5100 and MA 6100 integrateds are superb, the MA 5100 a favorite. The MC 2505 power amp is a great choice or an MC 250 with a good preamplifier or preamplifier/tuner. The MX 114 is  a superb McIntosh mate.

Both have built in DACs. I have the Teac and it sounds great with K-horns, the NAD gets great reviews and has a Hypex amp inside.

Find a good HK 430 or similar. Perfect match for Heresys. I use one one my Forte IIs and Heresys in the past. Never get the volume knob close to half way.

My AVRs never come close to the HK even with the extra watts they have.
