oldtimer
https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/162658-rip-keith-emerson/ He suffered from a nerve damage issue in one of his hands. Being unable to play led to depression, which led to a bullet in his head.
Mallette
Morning paper reported his death, but nothing about suicide. OTOH, they didn't mention how it came about at all. Dave

Islander
It's very sad to read that Keith's frustration with being unable to play like he used to would motivate him to end it all. A really determined person can sometimes find a solution to a problem that seems impossible. Rick Allen, the drummer from Def Leppard, lost his left arm in a bad car crash in 1984. While still in the hospital, he started to figure out how he could do some of the drum parts normally played with his hands by using his feet. The band supported his efforts, and he was able to get set up with a customized drum kit that let him play well enough to go back on tour. In this 3-minute clip, Rick's drum tech give us a brief tour of his custom drum kit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS53IJAqquw In this 5-minute clip, Rick explains how he does it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK4MldxBDJ4 Here's him doing a short drum solo in Montreal last year. The fans seem to appreciate it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR-cGNj1Hrw Sorry to hijack the thread. We can't know what Keith Emerson was thinking and feeling in the last weeks and months of his life, but losing the ability to do what you love doesn't have to mean the end of everything.

I don't see it as a TJ, but a spin on how us older folks can keep our chins up.
