Bubo
The holy grail of PVC and Plastic lubrication PDF Silicone is starting to look like a winner Anyone out there who can do a bake off removing and examine the stylus for accumulation of lubricant I'm guessing zero with silicone "Lubricating plastic gears and bearings, even “no-lube” plastics, boosts part performance and life" https://ecllube.com/resources-for-engineers/tutorials/ECL_Tips on Lubricating Plastics.pdf

I use it sometimes to remove TAR from my hands. I'm never w/o it, & have cans in various locations- Truck, Garage, Basement & under the kitchen sink. I'm going to give it a try. Just never crossed my mind to try it, Thanks PS, maybe George could try it first & report back to us? LOL My thoughts exactly WD40 ingredients are a trade secret but it smells like petrochemicals So that alone may be bad for the glue that holds the diamond on the canter lever
KROCK
Well, sometimes new vinyl that I bought comes with a film on it & not even my Ultrasonic cleaner can remove it. I know the WD 40 will. I'm not in the mood to spend another $700.00 on a nos AT 150 mlx, or my $1000.00 Hana.

KROCK
Being in the construction field, I use more silicone on my projects then WD 40. The silicone dries & lubricates, where WD 40 stays wet & (adheres) more dust particles, especially on windows & doors.

Bubo
Dupont NO stick liquid $5 appears to be a dry teflon coating that could be applied to the stylus Might be an interesting experiment with an old, but usable stylus Teflon coat the stylus Silicone coat the LPs
KROCK
I'm curious why anyone would apply Silicone or any other lubricant's to vinyl. If anything you would just want them as clean as possible, No?
JohnJ
Me too @KROCK used turgikleen in my ultrasonic then rinsed, six months later lps were still quiet and static free, my $$ stylus still clean. Welcome to our world @JordanWex Just in case you didn't realize the op is on the other side of the globe, might not hear back from him until he is up & at `em again! 1

I'm interested to experiment. From reading the articles on PVC and record making, there is lubricant added to the PVC used in records, for mold release, but it does remain on or in the record. Cleaning may eliminate the lubricant.. Thus need to replace it

JohnJ
Micro line, Fine Line, whatever the manufacturer calls it. The shape that fits the grooves will not incur damage and actually will pick up more of the recorded sound imprinted in the groove. Some of my LPs from the 70s still sound new because I never used an elliptical or any awful styli on them. * https://www.sound-smith.com/articles/stylus-shape-information Edited October 29, 2021 by JohnJ * 2
billybob
If had some snake oil, would try it on one. Seriously, experiments can be fun and revealing. Conical is another word John.

billybob
Have also read where elliptical picks up more information than conical. Maybe it just cleans out groove more.
