Phone scam question

So I get a new phone with the job......fine.

I start getting calls right away which surprises me because nobody has had time to receive my number.

Turns out they are generally from the 'your auto warranty has expired, this is your last chance to extend it"

So, I do the obligatory "please put me on your do-not call list".....  and they evidently hit the disconnect button.  No "Ok we will" no "no we won't", not even a "F... you idiot"....  Just a click/disconnect.

Ok...so I keep getting them.  I decide this time, I'll "hit number 6" on their phone menu to opt out.....

I still get them (though I do realize it could be different vendors from the one I hit option 6 to opt out)

Getting annoyed...  I decide to now talk to one and waste as much of his/her time as I can....and in the end make the comment similar to "now that I've intentionally wasted 10 minutes of your time....  maybe you would see the benefit of me having been put on your DNC list by the PRIOR person that called me (which would have saved YOU from the hassle) so why don't you do the nice thing.......CLICK.......

Hmmmm.....  I totally get/understand they are likely under pressure to get "X" sales or "X" contacts and the moment they know they have a dead fish on the phone, they disconnect.  Sure is a good way to make me think that I really WANT to work with them the next time I call.

SO, I just get another call....  want to speak to someone, hit "2" so I hit "2".

Speak with Billy-Bob....  he gets my name to transfer me to their specialist who can go over the details..... fine, please transfer.

The "specialist" gets on the phone and says "Hi Mr. Thompson, I'm Fred"...  I simply say "hi" no more, no less....  and then "CLICK" as he now disconnects me, even before I had a chance to say I wasn't interested.

It's almost like they're rushing to clock the number of connects on the phone verses conversations verses sales.  Answer (connect), hang up.....go for next one...hang up....next...

I really REALLY don't get it.

As much as these folks annoy me, I realize they're trying to work so I don't mind being polite (initially) to them....  but they just create people who hate them by this rude crap.

Anyone have a clue?

Nope.

I fill my call blocker up with these idiots and they keep coming up with different numbers.  Recently they use my area code and the next 3 digits of my phone number with random numbers after that.  It makes it look like a local call.  When you call the number back you get a "not a valid phone number" message.

I was working on a car in my garage when I got one about 2 weeks ago.  Of course I had my music going.  Once I heard that I was being transferred to a live representative, I put the phone in the horn mouth of my 396.  I could hear him yelling something and then he hung up after 5 seconds or so.  It cracked me up.

I've recently gotten the idea, and have told my fiance that I want a whistle.  a real whistle, like referees use.

I like the thought of it, but it would probably quickly get old.  or lost.  both?  very possible.

It would be extremely annoying, I say go for it.

That's why they have a string for around your neck!

yeah well.  my lady tells me I'd die trying to escape a wet paper bag.  something tells me I would take it off once.  that would be it. it would grow legs & disappear.  I'm thinking with help but could probably never prove it, and would be in the dog house for trying to make the case.  and so there I would be:  once again just agreeing without a fight that without her, a paper bag jeopardizes my life.

It would not surprise me if you got on a sucker's list, and by "you" I mean whoever had the phone number before you.

If you simply answer the phone it tells them it is a working number and what time they know they can call and you will answer.  Then they sell that information to another hundred companies who want "live" phone numbers.

spam scam #3 - just turn off ur voice mail, because when that starts after the 7th ring, they have their live number... just a thought, but would only work after plan B, the infamous "block" because the spam scum seems to use a hundred numbers from the same area code . o O (I bet they don't pay their phone bill either) and the original plan #1of the DNC - I send them a screen shot of my do not call blocked list lol so they have something to do, which I haven't figured out what it is yet, whatever lol

I Hate these damn calls. This is what I do, If your not in my phone contact list I will not answer. If the call is important the caller will leave a message. If no message is left I place the incoming number to blocked.

I have found that I had more annoying calls with an android phone then my current iPhone.

Blocking the number doesn't do a thing because they use a different number for every call.

Sad to say, the robo calls will make 50% or more of your calls next year.  If I don't recognized the number, I don't answer.

That certainly makes sense....  but in my case, it's a work issued phone.  "who might call me??"  I cover a seven county area and any person who works for the state or has a state pension/retirement plan would have my number to reach out to for questions/guidance.  I will have different numbers and several different prefixes.  I could screen them and call back but it's faster to just answer the phone.
