JohnJ Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Hi to all of you that like to eat! This might not look like much but having to take stuff out of boxes to do it I'm hungry so I'll do the refried beans tomorrow and I've already got the tortilla chips out. Steamed beef tamales, the rice made with bacon drippings from the 1.5lbs of Wrights that I just cooked and a salsa with a little heat to it with cheddar of course. No beer lately but a shot of bourbon after I chase dinner down with iced tea I have habitually with everything all day long will be nice. Clapton in the background following that Jimmy Rodgers All-Stars youtube lp. Ahhhh. Make each day count! 3 Quote
JohnJ Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Ever make experiments in the kitchen? Yea if you're buzzed, been there done that. But not anymore so I had half a red bell pepper left I didn't want to go soft. Got some buttermilk, increased my recipe 50%. Put a half pound of sausage and cheddar in it... ate half of it yesterday for lunch and dinner. Shared with my bro and finishing the hot coffee out of the road-trip thermos with this is d**n good! I guess sunburn has been busy lately? 3 1 Quote
Moderators dtel Posted November 15, 2021 Moderators Posted November 15, 2021 Some vegetable soup, yes and some meat just because I like meat. It's about 4-5 gallons and has been on since 11 am. Just added the raw meat so it will be ready in an hour or so ? 6 Quote

Had a full week there and was able to knock out 74 passes which brings me to 327 ; yes I'm still counting . Like life in general it was mostly good to outstanding but in the early part of the week I encountered some major knuckleheads . Drivers that can't attain the 30mph speed limit but still feel the need to cross the double yellow to make a turn . Stupid dangerous and I had some up close encounters one being with a tractor trailer where I had to come to a complete stop and back up on a steep incline . Big rigs are prohibited from using the road yet I encountered 2 between Mon and Weds . 1 1 Quote

Have only been as a spectator, you can see almost anything pass. A 18 wheeler sould be an automatic ticket, but they try to take a short cut without being cought, but could kill someone. The dragon is a shortcut because that's how we first drove on it, it was directions from a local as the shortest way to get where we were going. We had NO idea what we had got into, at the end we stopped and cought our breath, it was at night and if you have never and find it by accident you will never forget it. 1 1 1 Quote
sunburnwilly Posted November 16, 2021 Author Posted November 16, 2021 To expand on this ^ My first encounter was Mon night . Pulled off at the Tennessee line to layer up . Within a minute a Bob Tail cruised through . Didn't think much of it until a Tractor Trailer with a full head of steam rolled through . It had to be a Smokey and the Bandit moment . The bobtail was to clear the road followed by the Snowman . All fine and dandy except I was tearing down that road less than 2 minutes earlier which kinda soured me to night passes . 1 Quote

JohnJ Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 There was more than one place up near there I would have afforded before the ----flation hit punitively. That road could have been the only way to get to one of the many cabins simple to luxurious that have sold up there to urban escapees the last year. Wonder if they would have gotten a permit for access to the road for that purpose. That Ferrari? Maybe inexperience coupled with the ease of getting that machine for a wealthy person. Someone that toils and saves to get something would take better care of it compared to if it's easy to write another check for a replacement. 3 Quote

YK Thom Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 No photo, but I am just about finished making my first of three batches of silan (date honey) in preparation for Passover. Not difficult but time consuming. The results are worth it. 1 Quote
