It can have 10 strings or more, and is played by tapping. Tony Levin demonstrates and explains it here:
Islander
Nice, but it’s a pity that the sound of her Stick is so low as to be almost inaudible. Subtitles would be a great help, too. Is she singing in Tagalog?
Mighty Favog
She looks dead on my girlfriend (now wife) when we were 16 years old. 😍 (holding her little brother)

There are over 15 different dialects, so close to Tagalog. It is considered the most widely used dialect. This remaster seems to have the stick's audio up a little better. Since the notes are all hammer ons, they don't have a lot of bite.
Marvel
My favorite 'stick' performance it this one. Bass strings are in the middle. I think going to the top is tuned in fifths and to the bottom in fourths. I have enough trouble wrapoing my head around other standard guitar tunings. Sorry, it's not a babe. You'll just have to listen to the music.
Marvel
I feel pretty dumb...I've listened to a lot of Tony Leven, butnever realized he was in King Crimson. I had never paid attention to them. You know... so much music, so little time.
Marvel
The stick is really played like a piano and not a guitar. Pretty amazing invention, really.

artto
Kathy Valentine - from The Go-Go's. This girl knows how to GROOVE. Tal Wilkenfeld and Esperanza Spalding are at the top of my list. Actually, I think Esperanza is a lot more technical (?) or more versatile/well-rounded. But they typically play in different genre so not really comparable IMO (as a fellow bass player).

Mighty Favog
(A little off topic) My step-son and his wife are over our house right now and they're playing the original guitar hero. While they've been playing all this head banging hard rock (and getting so-so points) I suggested Jethro Tull's Aqualung and gave them a real workout!! LOL!!
