Advice for buying used Heritage speakers

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First time here, seeking advice:

I'm looking to purchase used Heritage speakers for a bar, but have very little technical knowledge of the subject. I do have someone helping me with the general design of the sound system, but I would be the one looking for and purchasing the actual equipment.

I see a lot of used Heritage speakers for sale online directly from owners (Facebook marketplace etc), and I'm not sure how to assess the condition of the speakers they are offering. What questions would you recommend asking the sellers?

what tips or advice would you have to inspect in person before buying?

In an ideal situation, I'd have a pro buyer doing this for me, but this option isn't available for me currently - I'd appreciate any suggestions you have on how I could go about it myself.

Thank you!

What kind of bar? Have photos of area?

The White Water Tavern in Little Rock has Heresy’s (they are rated one of the top Dive Bars in USA by Esquire).

I have seen everything in commercial bars, restaurants, with some very creative arrangements.

@bhendrix has a business partner he help set up his beer garden with Klipsch, but not Heritage due to size of venue need more portability and power handling.

If you have two good workable corners, you will obviously want to go with Khorns, let us know and we can tell you what to look for, it will depend on age.

If you are looking at something else let us know and we can tell you what to look for on each model.

Denver, CO Horizontal Khorns behind the bar (which was the first sound bar by the way, in the 50’s)

Those are vertical Cornwalls placed horizontal. Nicely done, though.

I'm intrigued by what appear to be custom made bases to elevate the K-horns. They look to be beautifully matched.

Really enjoyed all of these pictures.

Thanks guys. I've been looking at listening bars around the world for inspiration, and I've seen mostly La Scalas, Khorns, Heresys, and Cornwalls. I see all of these on used sites, and I'm wondering what set of initial questions I can ask sellers before trying to meet in person and check them out (my follow-up question will be, what to look at/check when meeting in person... :) )

This is my bar layout, I'm aware I'll need more than one set of speakers, since the seating areas are spread throughout (marked A, B, C):

I would use a multi-channel or 5.1/5.2 set up with multi channel processing for immersive sound.

or you can just use 2-channel... with a hornloaded subwoofer

I found a listing for Klipsch Belle Speakers, Oak with Black Grilles, New Crites Crossover Boards. What should information should I ask the seller for, before deciding if it's worth the trip to check them out in person?
