Amp for Klipschorns

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I have used an amp with output meters.

2 watts with 5 watt peaks is loud enough where the neighbors might hear.

A 30 watt amp is probably enough for most everyone.

I used to believe differently, but the meters don't lie.

There’s an awesome video on YouTube where a guy runs 1 watt through a pair of speakers that are 87dB sensitivity.  Most people have no idea how loud that is through a regular speaker, much less a highly sensitive speaker like most Klipsch are.

Its all relative and IMHO dependent on the quality of power the amp puts out. I run a pair of 86dB efficient Harbeths with a 5 watt per channel SET. The sound is dynamic and clean (not the same as LS II, but....). Of course the 14 capacitors in its power supply help...

I run “power hungry” ATC monitors with a 60 watt Cambridge integrated. I probably have 30 watts more than I need. To be fair, the room is small and I do sit close. Not as dynamic as horns, but they can surprise you.
