Flux
Doesn't anyone around here have a sense of humor? Everyone under the sun knows that thing is one of the best ever built. I just can't stand the thought of someone having something better than me.
Guy Landau
and what exactly do you have?
AnalOg
Flux, If your being sarcastic, make an effort to portray it in written and/or visual context, i.e. , otherwise it's taken as the wirtten word as it is read. Tom
AnalOg
"I have been thinking of a preamp upgrade and the price seems right." Pack Rat, Don't sit on it to long, at that price, it will be snagged! That's why Dean posted it, it's a steal. If I didn't just fund the La Scala's, and now networks for them, because the AL's suck the big one, I'd snag it. garymd
How would that preamp mate with a Mac MC-240? Should I be looking for another Mac to complement the 240 as I've been advised or are there other alternatives such as this? I've never owned seperates so please excuse my newbieness. Cary does build some fine looking stuff. Rocks, too. I bet! Dee
J M O N
I saw that one last night, and had some interest in it. However, I just got an E-mail back from the seller informing me that it's been sold.
Guy Landau
Tom, You can build the type A network. It is very simple to build and IMO it sounds better than ALK network. I have owned the ALK and have sold them imediately after I've built and listend to the type A.
AnalOg
The feature that really interests me on the ALK, is the ability to attenuate the squacker through the series of settings. On the other hand simpler may be better. Did you build your Alk's,if so did you use recommended parts? Tom
Guy Landau
No, I've bought them directly from ALK. When reviewing the type A, I've named the thread "simpler is better" . Build them and you won't regret it. If you don't like'em, use the inductors and capacitors for the ALK's. The type A networks were prefered by PWK too. dubai2000
Guy, sorry to chime in here as I am no tech (!!!) but a well-meaning friend was concerned about tweeter protection. He believes that PWK eventually dropped the A-type as it blew too many tweeters. Any comments? (Otherwise I might be interested ) Wolfram
tubelion
You are using good SET, why worry? Mine is Jadis 300B 10W, very good result, I actually use the 3619 transformer and experiment 4-0 and 4-x taps with success, no problem, just a taste preference for listening to different music, just attach the extra wire soldering at the tap x and connect it to ground when 4-x is preferred, done in a minute. I am experimenting the single driver full range open baffle design now and have fun but busy to mod. the Belle further. But can recommend type A without reservation. Audible Nectar
Guy, At what output should I worry about the lack of tweeter protection in the type A? I've considered switching the crossovers on the Belles to type A (as you recommended), but am curious as to how much power would be cause for concern here.
