I'm pretty sure you were just joking around with those links, but I felt that I should remove them in light of the new policies.

This isn't any kind of smackdown and we're not saying people can't talk about other products -- that's one of the reasons this is the best Forum on the web.

What we're simply saying is that 1.) we want to take a step back from the commercial links and take it back to more of an informational site, 2.) we want to make sure people who do represent competing brands identify themselves, and 3.) we have received a great number of requests to simplify the system profiles and make the threads shorter (some one word responses take up 12-inches of screen space because of the detailed profiles on every message).

I sincerely hope that most of you see the recent changes regarding commercial links and banners as a positive development. If you feel strongly otherwise, please feel free to contact me directly with your thoughts. This is a community -- we want to foster not hinder growth. If you are having trouble with your system profile, contact Nathan and he'll help you. Also, look for more improvements to the system profiles.

Regarding the signatures: on my monitor, the reformatted sigs often take up more room than the old ones, and are tough to read as well.

I agree. Used well, the ability to format type size and color makes for more compact, legible, aesthetic sigs and a more enjoyable experience. I say give back the html and enforce the rules on commercial useage. Don't penalize everyone because of a few.
