Free Khorn

A good freind just came back from the florida keys.

the house across the street was being cleaned out and they had put a early Khorn out for the trash.

It is a very early one from the 50,s.

It has a large stevens trusonic mid horn with the rare all wood mid horn. It might be a 40 or ealy 50 khorn.

He could not read the serial no as there is a lot of wood panels stacked against it.

I am trying to get his brother in law who live close by to get the speaker and maybe ship to Boston.

If he wont deal with it I will post the address and anyone in the keys is welcome to get it.

As of today it is still there.

Btw my freind knows the difrence between a early and later khorn. I think it has the same horn lens that the 47 that was being ofred has.

Anyway I hope someone gets it if I can't get it shipped.

Well,

The bad news speakers is gone trash was picked up with it in it. The early khorn was out side for almost a week\ and the trash came yesterday. I had my freind have his brother inlaw go back and look and it was gone.

The khorn was a early one as it had the basball plate shaped woofer door and the large cap early crossover.

he said the crossover looked just like my 51 crossover.

right down to the wooden coils.

Dame I wish he had called me when he was down in the keys.

Anyone in the BIG PINE KEY area might want to keep a eye out at the local dump or land fill it might be there.

btw early khorns usaly came as one unit not pairs as all was mono back then.

I wonder what was powering them and did they chuck that also!.

I guess like the rest of you I can't imagine in my right mind anyone just putting a decent speaker out on the side of the road with empty milk cartons, cereal boxes, the contents of a bathroom trash can, etc. That is so totally WRONG! And a Klipschorn at that! I mean, I can see someone without a clue looking at some box type speaker and saying, "Awwww...throw that piece of junk out." But c'mon...isn't a Khorn an unusual looking enough thing for someone to go, "This is a weird looking speaker. Wonder what it is? Maybe it's got some value?" Anywho....

It's sad that such a speaker has gone to it's grave with shrimp peelings, old porn mags, an etch-a-sketch, dirty tennis shoes, moldy shower curtains, etc. I certainly hope that the good folks at Klipsch will show their respects and lower their company flag to half staff. 2.gif

I thought you guys LIKED Khorns? I can't believe none of our Southern subscribers made any effort to retrieve it. Believe me, if I'd have heard of a Khorn laying around anywhere within a 300 mile radius of here, I'd have taken a day off to go grab it!

Wonder why it was in the trash? Maybe somebody upgraded with a new Bose system? 2.gif

I did some sluething, made a few calls, and got a call back fro Bob the garbageman who said he and a partner were the culprits that did the dirty deed. They took their fresh fruit, rotting veggies, and Khorn to the scow, which headed up the Keys to the disposal site on the mainland. Told Bob I would fork over $200 if he could relocate the loney, smell Khorn and have it ready to be picked up.

Fat chance, but worth the effort, BTW, Bob is a Parrothead and runs a fishing/dive charter when he isn't driving the garbage scuttle. Pretty funny dude, and choking on his beer over the fact that he didn't set it on his boat on the way to the scow. He is bummed also.
