Any Vinyl Guys Here?

I know there is a lot of talk about speakers and the amps to drive

them, but was wondering about sources and in particular, turntables.

So, are there many vinyl guys here? If so, what table, arm and cart are

you running. While we're at it, what are your personal favorites

for spinning when you want to just relax and listen to some tunes.

Oh my sit back and enjoy the tidal wave of responses you will get.

I am recently back into vinyl after a long time off, so slowly building up a collection. I am running a rather timid setup compared to a lot here. Music Hall MMF-5 with Project arm and Dinavector 20XH high output MC cart it runs into a Scott 222C and Khorns.

More often then not I am spinning older blue notes. The likes of Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine and Jimmy Smith. I really dig the fact that Classic Records is reissuing a lot of them on 200g vinyl. Great sound, new condition and not nearly as expensive as the originals. If it is not Jazz it is The Who, The Clash, Stones, Bowie, Beatles, etc.

Denon 103 and Shelter 901 cartridges

Acoustic Signature Tango phono stage

Clearaudio Sixstream cabling cartridge to phono stage.

Almost entirely classical and opera listening.

Forgot to attach the latest pic.

I play mostly vinyl. Mostly 60's and early 70's rock, early blues and jazz. I have a few different carts that I rotate from time to time. Goldring 1042, Denon 110, AT440ML and Shure Type III. My turntable is a modded Thorens TD160 with a Linn Basik arm. Nothing exotic, but it sounds pretty darn good.

Let me add two more dinos: Thorens TD 520-S with SME 3012-R/Garrott

P77/MX110 phono section and Thorens TD125 MKII with SME 3009

Improved/MusicMaker III/Holfi Battriaa.

Slowly starting to listen to all kinds of 'good' music (from Pink Floyd

to Jazz and Wagner or Mahler) music again - unfortunately now without

my

beloved four-legged companion - Mike - you really were a good boy [:(].

Mine is almost the same as Gary's except that I had it first! -- Basis Ovation TT, Basis Vector Tonearm, and Transfiguration Temper V cartridge. Accessories: Basis clamp and dust cover (Gary has those, too) and a Townshend anti-resonance sink to smooth it out even a little more.

I listen almost exclusively to classical, tho' occasionally I get a little perverted by a few of Gary's and Thebes' non-classical recordings.

I spent about 15 years away from vinyl and got back in about two

years ago. I tweaked a Rega Planar 3 with RB-250 and AudioNote IQ-2 and

it's served me well, but wanted more. So my new rig shipped today

FedEx from the west coast. My weekend will be spent setting it all up

and taking my vinly listening to the next level.

ClearAudio Champion II

SME 309

Benz Micro Glider

I find vinyl guys are becoming a niche group as the world moves to

digital. Don't get me wrong, I have a Shanling T100 for CD's and an

iPOD for hiking but my 2-channel rig in the living room is dedicated

vinyl, tubes and horns.

Thanks for sharing guys. I love to see all the different roads to audio nirvana.

I'm always a little embarrased to discuss my set-up compared to some of the others on this Board (especially Max!!). But, I run a Scout TT with a Benz ACE cart through a Mac C-26 preamp, Mac 2102 amp, and RF-7s. I listen to mostly jazz and some classic rock and classical. Lately, I'm really into Joe Sample's solo albums (without the other Crusaders). I don't possess the technical expertese to engage in the contining analog vs. digital debate - all I know is I enjoy the sound of vinyl immensly and I derive great comfort from the ritual of putting on an album and watching it spin as great music fills the room.

You betcha'!

I'm using;

VPI Aries 1 Turntable with a JMW-10 Tonearm

ZYX R1000 Airy3-S-sb LOMC cartridge

2nd JMW-10 armwand for using Denon DL103D; DL 304; DL-S1; Supex 900, Super LOMC cartridges

Tamura TKS-27 Step up Transformers

VPI Phono Interconnects

I listen mostly to Jazz, along with some Blues, Reggae, R&B, and once in a while classical.

Dang Max, it's a no wonder your vinyl sounds so good[:D]

I have asperations of moving into the 5G table and arm arena but alas funds are going to be slow going on this one[:(]

My current table, arm (Circa 1988) and cartridge are OK and are very tolerable through my VK-P5 but nothing along the lines of your rig[;)]

Duby2000, my good buddy Seti is running a MMF 2.1, Grado Platinum cartridge through his NAD PP2 and I think it sounds pretty good for a $750.00 layout!

Max, how do you like the Tango? The Final Tool is one on my shortlist[:)]

Dino the Tricerytops signing off[:P]
