They're Coming to Take me Away...

Ha, ha, to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time!

Bizarro, funny music, got to love it. Rock, jazz, classical, indie, folk: FERGET ABOUT IT!

Take me to the land inhabited by the Doctor, yes Doctor Demento.

Why him, well somebody's got to keep track of this stuff. The

good Doctor is a hero of sorts at least from my slightly tilted

perspective.

Growing up the various bizarros and catchy momentary hits (Tie me

Kangaroo Down Sport, If you Want to be Happy for the Rest of Your Life,

Make an Ugly Women Your Wife etc.) gave me more pleasure then the

finest wine will do today.

So any other Demento's out there and what's your favorite

funny/bizarro? Hey his current number 3 hit is "Let's Blow Up the Tow

Truck"

So am I "tied to the Whipping Post" or are there any other strange critters out there hanging around this Forum?

Thebes,

I myself like "Another one rides the bus" sung to the tune of Queens "Another one bites the dust".

....and who could forget Shaving Cream?

As the Superbowl Sabbath approaches, I often catch myself humming this spiritual hymn from Bobby Bare.

"Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life

End over end neither left nor to right

Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am

Make me a piece in your master game plan

Free from the earthly temptations below

Ive got the will, Lord if youve got the toe..........."

Even more rooted in painful recesses of my cranium was the sister(nun) who sang the Lord's Prayer onto AM top 40 radio, just as we did a four hour road trip to Chicago. WLS played that song every 25 minutes for close to three weeks. Arrrrrrghhhhh!

WC McCall and "Convoy" seems like a joy compared to that memory.

Another one rides the bus by Weird Al Yankovic, that brings back memories. Anyone hear his Amish Paradise parody of Gangsta Paradise? One of my favorites from Demento has to be All Along the Watchtower sung by the writer of the tune, Bob Dylan himself.

As a kid I actually had the 45 of They're Coming to Take Me Away. Probably why I ended up as a drummer.

I sing a Zappa song to myself too:

"girls from all over the world

write my name on bathroom walls

for I am ......."

That, "Blood on the Floor" by Fleetwood Mac and "Demon Alchohol" by the Kinks.

Rick

And who can forget " The secret word for tonight is Mudsharks"?

Even as I listen to "Fresh Garbage" (Spirit)

there's so many..there was "Junk Food Junkie" by Henry Gross, Charlie Daniel's "Ballad of Uneasy Rider" in the 70's..ILBT's by Joe Walsh..and I figured out what that stood for before I bought it in the early 80's!

And just about any Frank Zappa song as discussed above..however, Bobby Brown, Catholic Girls, and Crew Sluts come directly to mind...
