  1. Was it worth taking the day off to wear the most uncomfortable clothes I own, driving an hour and a half through Dallas traffic, fighting my social anxiety to be part of a crowded room full of strangers? For this man and his family, most certainly yes. I am truly grateful to have been a small part of today's events, to meet Boxx's family, and to celebrate a life well lived. In overhearing conversations, his eulogy, and brief conversations with his family is was evident that Boxx was the same here as he was everywhere else. A wonderful husband, a doting father, a loyal friend .. he was goofy and loved to have a good time, always welcoming, intelligent, and most certainly a music lover. So the Boxx we knew was the Boxx everyone knew, and that warms my soul. Alex, the soundtrack you put together was a perfect amalgam of his favorite artists and it was as though he made it himself. Great selections that had me tapping my toes and recalling fond memories of late night jam sessions. His eulogy was presented by his best friend and also included a beautiful message by Boxx's daughter Genevieve. A few musical selections were played as well, including "Time" and "High Hopes" - I think Boxx would have loved these selections for not only the personal importance they have in his family's life, but also the fact that he got a full chapel of multi-generational people to sit through two very slow Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd songs. I cried the whole time. Dave and the PAW: you guys knocked it out of the park with the flowers. Thank you for taking that initiative and making it happen so quickly. Forum guys: It was both weird and humbling to represent a whole segment of people that could have easily doubled the number of people in attendance. I know this forum, and all of the love and support put forth by its members, means a great deal to the family. If any of you were there, my apologies for not seeking you out. So many people in such a tight space started to overwhelm me and I needed to duck out. Boxx family: Thank you for alerting us so quickly and allowing us to support you and grieve with you. It would have been just as easy to let us know retroactively, or not at all. It was indeed a privilege to to be there in honor of your husband and dad. Alex and Genevieve: I sincerely hope you guys stick around and interact from time to time, continuing your dad's legacy and leaving your own mark. I really appreciate you taking the time to speak with me and I'd really like to get to know you more, here or "offline". I thoroughly enjoyed your dad and it's clear that his influence is found in you both, and that makes me think I'd enjoy you as well. Michele: Thank you for sharing your husband with us. He spent a ton of time here, but it should never be considered a wasted effort - our lives are enriched as a result of knowing him. I have no doubt your support network is vast, but please don't ever hesitate to reach out to the brothers of Klipsch if you need anything. Stay thirsty my friend. - Michael

  8. Boys went to get on the bus this morning and the oldest turned around and gave dad and mom a hug, He typically hates to ggive hugs at the bus for fear his class mates will tease (understandable) So now I Get this feeling Why something today so out of character, I have always followed my instincts when I feel something is out of place I change things, When I drove over the road long haul trucking if I felt the location was bad I was out of there, the wife and I paid for a hotel room once and after being there 10 minutes we returned the key and traveled another 1.5 hours b-4 stopping for the evening......... The wife is at the school picking up the boys, I figure better that than me worrying all day, and if my feelings were right I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to one or both of them anyone else ever do this, or am I just crazy ?? 2nd cup done brewing

  9. 18 degrees here I'm on the second cup and Jake is waiting to hear the lap top close as that is his signal he is going for a walk. Enjoying premium Spotify and the DAC Mark sent me. Made one play list that is over ten hours of music. Borrowed another list from someone that is 150 blues tunes.....called Blues Masters. Don't know that I'll ever have to buy music again. Try to drop in for our salute to Boxx on the 3 Minute To Miller Time Thread tomorrow starting at 5:00 EST. Carl will be bumping the thread to the top at that time. The bar will be full so get there early. Cheers Gents

  14. You guys want specs? I've got specs. The goal was indeed a product that bridges retro with modern. I can't tell you everything about them since what you see here are prototypes, but at a minimum for the towers: 27Hz - 22kHz +/- 2dB while the monitor is 40Hz-22kHz +/-2dB. Tweeters are 1" LTS titanium, midranges are 3" aluminum slot-loaded drivers, and the woofers are 5.25" of a design to let such a small driver dig into the 20s with authority. Rest assured, we do not believe in cheap amplification. Horn loaded speakers don't take kindly to low quality amps. As far as the wireless bit goes, until a handheld battery comes out that can provide the 1800W that a standard 120V plug can, wireless speakers are going to have power cords. You do want power, right? Something people need to understand about the transmission is that WiSA products are not wireless like your cell phone's Bluetooth ear piece. They work in a completely different bandwidth. There is near zero insertion loss (your input signal goes from the source, to the driver with nothing added). The DACs used for such products must be quite good in order to resolve the amount of detail that's in the source signal. As an added bonus, you get 24b/96kHz compatibility. Think about this: we wouldn't use products or formats that don't let our acoustics shine to their highest potential. Rest assured that these retro/modern concepts follow that ideal. -Dave W

  20. I can't think of anything worse than the feeling you have when your child is sick. My youngest daughter is a Junior in high school. When she was 19 days old a blood vessel burst in the ventricle in her brain. She was life flighted to TX Childrens Hospital and was in ICU for 45 days. It absolutely rips your insides out. I think my wife and I aged 3 years in that month and a half.

  23. i think you must be a pretty cool dude yourself. you got a woman to stay with you all these years … i failed at that. Plus, you’re a moderator--the powers that be around here trust you…at work, i once was told i couldn’t speak to anyone outside of our organization without having my words approved by management. Just keep being you--that seems to be working fine.

  24. OK, Budman...how the hell do you wear out Klipschorns and what happened to the other 4 pair??? Anyway...John, I know nothing of the Polk forums, but you are perceptive about this place. It's the most loving, civil, and accepting audio forum I've ever been associated with. Most of them I can only spend a short time in...our folks are far more than "virtual" friends. Welcome. Kick of your shoes and stay awhile. I think you've found the right place. Dave

  25. Haha...yeah, but I'm okay with that. It's a good feeling honestly, not because of the age thing, but it feels kind of like an honor thing to me. Also, best post ever right there my friend! Welcome to the forum rebuy! I promise my generation doesn't represent me! My second set of speakers were Synergy - I assure you, no one's gonna judge you. I still have two Polk subs of my own too, so no worries there. (I catch flak about that from time to time). Also, as for the banned word, I'll give you a hint, it starts with b and is a four letter word. It rhymes with "nose."

  26. Hey John...... 1st....let me set you straight and set some ground rules...... #1 it's "OK" to be old....most of us are....except my man IbizaFlame #2 it's "OK" that you own only three Klipsch speakers........more will come......that's just a fact!!! #3 it's "OK" that you owned some Polks......I still do......got me some big SDA's........don't tell anybody..... #4 it's "OK" to lurk around the forum in the corners......but please do some posting. Now for the rule/rules...... When you post.....you must have fun and enjoy your time here. The "BIG" rule , you can talk about all audio products here. But there is one product that the Klipsch Forum is obligated to "BASH" when speaking about. This name can not be used in the same sentence where Klipsch is used.......it's like matter and anti-matter....the product really doesn't matter we just like to poke fun at it. I can't tell you what it is.....it's agianst the rules......you must find this out on your own.......but when you do you'll be a true Klipsch forum member Ahhhhh ........ just come here and have fun.....lots of good peeps here Welcome to the best forum in the world :-)

  31. You read that right. I can't give much more information other than we are displaying a concept of a "Heritage-Inspired Wireless Speaker" in our booth at CES this year. That's not the official name however. We reserve "Heritage" for speakers that PWK had direct involvement in. Details: Works in pairs. Tower and Bookshelf models. Walnut and Black finishes. Cane grilles. Klipsch Stadium Technology (with improved drivers and tweeters). Designed, Engineered, and Built in the USA (I'll work on getting a better pic) I'm VERY interested in hearing what you guys think about this, given the limited info we can give you at this time?

  35. Just to confuse you even more, the new Atmos recommendations are to have direct radiating surrounds, preferably the same height and even the same speaker as the mains. Otherwise yeah read what Ibiza just wrote. Personally I prefer lower direct radiating on everything. I have tried it both ways and I like the more seamless integration and more obvious and full range sound of towers. The dipole/bipoles are great for ambience, such as road noise or concert audiences, but when you get a strong and obvious source such as gunfire or powerful guitars, I would rather have towers at the same height as the mains myself. More movies seem to be doing this, and the Dolby Atmos guys will flat out say that's what the goal is.

  40. Welcome John … nothing wrong with Synergy. I have Heritage. I also have Synergy F3 setup as well. I’ve never been ashamed of the synergy or thought they sounded bad. I’m sure you’ll do fine here and i hope you like the place. I will warn you that people are pretty free expressing their opinions; but, they’re a nice group.

  45. I would like everyone to know that your thoughts mean a lot to me. Today, we decided as a family to have a "non-traditional" service...I mean, that we will have a playlist before the service in the background, 2-3 songs during the service (I know one song I chose is "Time," by The Alan Parsons Project. My father would mention to me that, "this should be played at my funeral..." I always just laughed and thought it was meaningful and sad at the same time. My sister will help choose the music as well. As my father and I are both University of Texas graduates, I am going to ask the members of the service to join me in "The Eyes of Texas." I feel that my Dad would get a kick out of it, and I am very happy to honor him in a unique way. You have no idea how much your posts have made my mother and me smile this evening. Thank you.
