  1. So we take off, and fly around a little while and land at the local airport across town. Fine with me, we get out and he says we stopped here to get some coffee ! Ok were just along for the ride, I don't care where we go, this is fun. They park both planes we all go in and have coffee and back off to go flying, around town and even over our house. First pic is taking off in his yard, second is our little downtown main street, third is somewhere ?

  2. Good morning my friends... Surprise delivery !!! Just wanted to show a photo of the start of the M.A.D. session with my guest Ryan from RTM. Just before is arrival time, there was a knock on the door and the postman handed me a box...... These were in it, so we made sure to celebrate the day with the new glasses and a great wine which Ryan brought along with plenty of great media to listen to (0: Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Dtel for helping to make the day complete, they are perfect ! Enjoy the day everyone.. .........Gary

  4. So my wife tells me Saturday night she has a surprise for me Sunday but we don't have to go far, bring the camera. I had no idea what it could be, but said OK. Well Saturday she was on the phone talking with her cousin, he lives about 3 miles from us. Her cousin flies and has own planes and asked if we wanted to go for a ride. YES I am willing but was surprised my wife was considering this because her knees start to shake if she goes up to the third step on a ladder, she does not like heights. She was willing, she has flown but it's been probably 25 years since we have. I had no idea what was going to happen until we pulled up at his house. He has a hanger and a landing strip on his property, I was thinking we were going to meet him and drive to the local airport but no. I have to say this is very cool, I had no idea he had a setup like this on his property it was amazing. This is a pic of the hanger, 2 of the planes are not his, the little experimental plane (back right, white with a little blue) and the red one on the left.

  6. Good Tuesday morning gang Iv been enjoying this trip in Reno because Fly time is DONE for a wile, need to start house shopping in the Desert. Taking the next month off really, im burnt, lost weight in Arz likely do to the work load and not drinkin. 185 again, not bad from 215, i plan on a few more Desserts before i leave Reno. Detel looks to be enjoying the Flyboy lifestyle, and yes it is dam sure pricey. Iv been involved in flying since 8, had i not had a few great paying aerospace gigs in Socal, i would never be able to afford a plane payment. Had i not had my Dad's Aviation related inheritance, i would not be in it today. Last 40 years, im asset rich and cash poor. I will likely be selling my 185SP after the move to Reno area, 26hrs on a plane that is 15 years old, and that is since "New". Expresso time gang, it has arrived at the room

  7. Folks, here's what I'll say about the situation publicly. This thread will be locked as well because I really don't want this conversation to continue publicly and would like us all to move on. This is an isolated incident. Feel free to PM me with further questions if you have any and I'll do my best to answer any concerns you have. 1. Beeker was permanently banned (account, IP, email) after I learned of some very disturbing behavior that was exhibited by him at the recent Hope Gathering. I will not give specifics publicly for various reasons, but let's just say several separate and credible reports were made regarding said behavior/actions. We cannot allow such things to happen at forum-sanctioned (let alone Klipsch-sanctioned, which this particular events was not) events, so in order to address the situation and to help mitigate future similar occurrences, I decided to ban him. 2. It is not Klipsch's responsibility to give any member's contact info to any other member after they've been banned. 3. Say what you will about me and how I handle my Admin duties, but I've done what I've thought is the only way to handle this issue without dragging it out and making an even bigger deal out of it than it already is. This is why I've been pretty tight-lipped about it. Please take any conspiracy theories elsewhere. Thanks for your understanding.

  8. You parachuted, I always wanted to do that, somewhere along the line I changed my mind as I got older ? But I will stay in the plane anytime. He did say the red 2 seat plane can do stunts, but we weren't going to do any. He did show me what a 60 degree tight turn felt like and negative and positive G's. The negative G's were much more fun, it felt like a really long rollercoaster going down hill, you lift off the seat a little, it was great.

  9. Thank you Christy, and especially Troy and his friend, the other pilot, it was great fun. I really had a good time and surprised she came along and did so well, much better than I expected. Mark................ I know some people here fly a lot but for us who don't get to just fly for fun in small planes like this it's just fun. I thanked everyone and was walking away, I turned around and told them they were just spoiled, they laughed.

  10. After leaving the airport we went flying around for about half an hour and landed back at his house. We all got in the Cessna for another ride, we all could hear on the radio there were a bunch of people parachuting at a different small airport about 75 miles away and they wanted to go watch, fine with me. So we take off out of his yard again and head North all four of us this time. Landing at the second airport we got out and watched some skydivers landing then going back to the plane to go again after they all landed.

  11. So since Christy is a little nervous about this her cousin is going to taker in a Cessna (pic; white with stripes) and if she changes her mind they can come back. He tells me his friend was going to fly me in another plane which is a little more sporty it's red and a little white and only has a 2 seats.

  13. dtel ... those really are great pics. Thanks for sharing them. Looks like a real kick. Baxter finally got rid of his small competitor for the crate. They picked her up last night. Darned if he doesn't seem to miss her now. Dog psychology just ain't my expertise. Finally getting a sunny day after 4 or 5 days of rain and chill. A long walk is in order. Coloradans like to brag about getting 300 sunny days a year on average. I think we have some catching up to do to keep any braggin' rights. Cheers, as always. Woof to Jake from Bax.

  15. Hey there Dtel, thanks so much for posting all those photos! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.. The 172 on the left is the model that I flew and enjoyed very much. Many fly for travel, but I was always doing what your pilot friends did, and that was going up for pure fun and pleasure with my friends, family and co-workers. (even my band mates!) Flying in formation with fellow pilots was another thing I LOVED doing, day OR night, taking photos of each other and talking on a 'private' radio channel to keep coordinated.. I would always ask my passengers if they wanted to experience some negative G's (tickle belly), most always said yes. It is better then a rollercoaster and perfectly SMOOTH as you discovered... Wish I could still fly, but the $$$ for that hobby are simply prohibitive these days and for this home owner ... .........gw

  18. Hello coffee gang.. Dtel, it is interesting how quickly you begin to learn your way around the local land once you get into flying! Night flying? FUN! But, I always had my place to land in different areas... One evening after work, I took one of the fellows that worked at the tire shop next to our shop, as he wanted to see HIS place and his girl friend's as well... This is a lot of hill town area, not much population. So, it got totally into nightfall, pitch black when you looked down. It was then he decided he NEEDED to go to the bathroom !! He knew how far it was to get back to the home airport. So, I said that I knew about where we were (even with NO real reference to what was down below) But, there was an 'uncontrolled' airport in that area, AND one I had NEVER landed at before!!... I took out my Flight Guide (Mark knows what I am talking about) and looked up the radio freg. to control the lighting to that particular apt. I hit the mike a few times and low and behold, out of complete blackness under us, the runway lighted up !!! So, I went away from the airport, announced my position and set myself up into the pattern and landed! Happily he just needed to take a leak out on the grass somewhere and before long, we were back in the air headed to home base ... All adding up to a little more flight experience and passengers. I am sure that Mark has many a 'war' story to add ... Oh, and thanks for the compliment on that photo and Music Hall.... It was SIX hours of listening bliss and ...

  19. One thing I quickly found out was how fast I got lost ! It was bad, everything looks completely different and I lost any sense of where I was at quickly. I would imagine all the air time learning to fly would help with that but for someone "me" who has never been up in the area where we live I was lost even after living in the area for 17 years. When the pilot would point out things I got it, but after a few turns I was lost again. Although I was not responsible for knowing where we were so I was looking at everything and taking pics, smiling the whole time. I say this because you brought night flying, no way, with no experience with local landmarks I would be in serious trouble quickly. The Cessna had GPS which was cool but the smaller plane I first flew in had nothing to help you figure out where your at, about all I could figure out was when I could see the interstate. Even looking at the pic's I took I have to zoom in close to find landmarks to know where the pic is from, like the downtown pic I posted, I didn't recognize exactly where it was at first, and it's our only little downtown.

  20. Glad you like them Tigerman, cool picture Thanks. (room looks great) Flying was great fun, it was a really smooth ride with only a few bumps which don't bother me. Her cousin told me be careful it's very additive, I told him that's really easy to see but there is no way I could afford it no matter how much I wanted. The negative G's were great, he didn't tell me he was going to do it which made it even better, I haven't had the feeling in a long time. He asked me how I was doing I said great that was amazing, he laughed. That 172 on the left is owned my that man on the left in the hanger pic (white hat ) he is 72 years old and is an instructor, he took up his plane right before we left and flies just for fun now. The man who gave me a ride in that smaller plane has been flying for 30 years and works as a private pilot.

  21. My dad introduced me to good sound and good music in the 50's. He had a single K-horn in a mono system with tube amps, a huge collection of New Orleans/Memphis/St. Louis jazz, classical stuff, pop stuff, Etc., Etc. Just as important, and even though he didn't play an instrument himself, he bought me a Wurlitzer spinet model organ and lessons when I was about 11. He instilled in me a love for music which remains an important part of my life and I am grateful for that.

  24. Bottom line, my opinion (for what it's worth) is that you do not have a subwoofer problem. You have a room/phase/placement integration issue with your subs. It will take a little work to get it right but the rewards will be worth the efforts.

  25. I had to go up in a small plane once looking for an offshore oil spill. After cruising around a while, the pilot says “i don’t see any oil yet--do you?” I said, “i’m not looking for an oil spill--i’m watching for other planes." he said that we were totally safe. since i’m writing this today--i guess he was right. i did fall out of the plane; but, since it looked like rain, i had brought an umbrella--it came in handy and the landing was rather smooth considering. a friend of mine is a pilot for a major airline--she said that she feels safer in a small plane.

  26. I have someone that takes hand drawn images/ideas, cleans them up and digitizes them for embroidery designs for me. Costs about $20 to have it done. i will be in touch My wife ended up on the Board for the Filipino-American Association of Greater Chattanooga, and we found the only logo was the low resolution one shown below. No one had anything better in their files. I redid it and made a large Photoshop file that I can make good quality smaller ones from. A little time and one can do wonders. The old one was rather embarrassing. Bruce

  27. Deep in the concrete canyons of Manhattan: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/04/25/police-cage-coyote-in-lower-manhattan/ Lots of coyote sightings in NYC recently as they work their way down from upper Westchester, etc. I live in very southern Manhattan in Battery Park City, across from the World Trade Center. This poor girl was captured right next to my apartment building, on the promenade along the Hudson River, less than 100 yards from the front door. I guess she just followed the riverfront all the way downtown, maybe she was going to hop on the Staten Island Ferry.

  28. Probably way too long and not worthy of a blog post. Edit it however you want if anything is usable, this is the best I can do. ---------------- My dad introduced me to the world of classic rock as a boy. We never had much money growing up so for transportation he had to overhaul his old Dodge D-50 truck a total of four times, squeezing over 400,000 miles out of it, while working third shift. There were times when the only chance I had to see him was to walk a quarter mile down to my grandparent’s garage and hang out while he tore an engine apart. The conversations usually ended up revolving around music while we listened to it. I didn’t understand much of it at the time but it makes more sense now. While in that garage, he would come to explain the meaning behind several Pink Floyd songs on many occasions. Any time Santana’s Black Magic Woman played, he would regurgitate memories about some crazy ex-girlfriend who was rumored to be a witch. He would describe in detail all the chaos that happened at Bull Island any time anything related to Woodstock came up since he was there. If Led Zeppelin played, he would have me pay attention to the strange rhythms that John Bonham cranked out. I was told about how my great-grandmother came from England, how she left behind a sister when she immigrated, and somehow through this person, George Harrison of the Beatles was born, becoming something like my 5th cousin, but somebody stole the letter that explained it all. I have no idea if that one is true but it’s a fun story nonetheless and his eyes light up every time he tells it. Eric Clapton would belt out Layla and he would tell me about the love triangle between Eric, George and Pattie Boyd. I learned about how I’d probably meet a girl who I’d be reminded of anytime the Moody Blues played In Your Wildest Dreams. Back home, any time he wanted to unwind, he would crank up Funk #49 by the James Gang. Jethro Tull and Neil Young were also favorites. He took me to my first concert at age 14, we went to see ZZ Top in their hey day. Their concerts were much different back then… trap doors, space ships, laser shows, conveyor belts, faux teleportation, etc., just really over the top, and nothing has been able to top it since then, it was truly a life experience. It meant a lot to me that recently we were able to see ZZ Top again, 25 years later, front row and center stage. We are seeing the Doobie Brothers soon as well. It seems that all the older artists can only make money by touring nowadays and he is enjoying that, seemingly going to a concert every couple of weeks. For my 16th birthday, Santa brought my first subwoofers, as well as a 4th edition of The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook, which helped us manually design and build a fourth order tri-chambered bandpass box together. Due to the aforementioned lack of funds, the first version was the budget build from hell. Due to a job in an industrial factory as an electrician, dad had access to old wire. He smuggled home some thrown away IBM networking wire for signal wires, some welding cable for power wires, smaller wire used as speaker wire, large capacitors to help the electrical system with dynamics, and many other industrial parts like fuse boxes and terminals. This is actually how I paid for the car itself, by stripping and recycling copper wire that was being thrown away, as copper prices weren’t what they are today so this was surprisingly pretty common. I found a JBL coaxial speaker in the trash and we used it as a center channel. As ghetto as that sounds, what we built would go on to win several trophies in halfway local IASCA competitions. Overhearing a judge tell their buddies “that’s the best sounding car out here” was a big source of pride considering it was thrown away parts and Wal-Mart amps, plus dad and I worked on it together. The first time we got it all connected after working on it for a long time, we sat there in the car in the middle of the night and listened to most of the Genesis “We Can’t Dance” album, which had recently come out and has some incredibly sweet midrange from percussion and keyboards which sounded great on the flat Blaupunkt “honeycomb” midranges that I had. Soon afterwards we cranked up the engine and got to hear what the worst ground loop in the world sounds like, but dad got it fixed pretty quickly. Anyway, more than anything he showed me what music can do to you emotionally. That really stuck with me, even nearly 30 years after hearing some of those stories in that garage. We never had nice expensive equipment, but the memories associated with the music are worth much more than that.

It's a good walk because the wife knows she can buy anything she wants, she just needs to carry it. Came up with that offer to her 15 years ago, and so far it's worked well up to last year, im looking at the counter of one of these Pawn shops, she has a rather large clock, big, heavy clock, real wood, so you feeling strong today dear? No, i just really want this clock, and im buying this too, pointing to a baby stroller Chit, beat at my own game.

  31. Still good, maby after the move you two can start walking or riding bikes, not a bad habit and it's something you can do together. So have any idea where you might be moving or have y'all just been busy cleaning out the hanger ? Sounds like a good change, especially if you find a new place that really fit what you two want. Hope I has some privacy/space for hobbies, both of you will have more time to do just what you want, it's that time.....thought it would never come didn't you.

The truth is there is really nothing worth missing, no secrets, nothing, there isn't even a special handshake which is disappointing. And as far as for moderators go, I must come out and say, I am sorry, I suck as a moderator. I do watch for spam and rudeness but usually it has been caught by faster moderators. OK my only good point is if you can call it that is I stay up most of the night....that's bad if it's your biggest plus. So someone is watching even in the middle of the night, so please don't make me use my one bullet, they might not give me another one ? I feel like Barney Fife

  34. True, and yet misses a subtle point. Someone who has always been a good student is someone for whom learning comes easily. When learning comes easily, life becomes easy. One doesn't need the drive to do just fine. In that way it is a relative handicap. Life is easy. Ambition is not necessary to be comfortable. If you have a person who finds learning easy and has large ambition, then you have a recipe for relatively easy success, or worse, a monster who rises to power. The former (those without ambition) are called under achievers, the latter are called either great or monsters depending on perspective.

  35. That is a lot of weight to loose that fast, but I bet you feel better ? Flyboy lifestyle no way, wannabe, positively But that can't possibly happen. It's going to be hard to sell that plane, with only 26 hours it should be worth a lot to say the least. One thing I wanted to say is these planes were spotless, inside and out. He said the red 2 set plane had just been repainted not long ago but all of them looked repainted. This little experimental plane is owned by a friend of his, he said no one here will fly it, it's not a matter of if something will break but when it will break. I don't blame him at all. The other pic was taken at the airport, a gold painted engine, I don't know whet it was out of but looked cool.

Here is a pic of PWK measuring a Birch Heresy I built (circa late 1977/early 1978) in order to ensure the interior volume of a randomly-pulled HBR cabinet was within the same allowable limits as one of the previously-built HDBR-style cabinets. Note the LaScala in the background...with the reinforcing wedges installed in the bass bin between the doghouse assembly and the bass bin sides...to improve the response curve of the bass bin. This pic was taken when the lab was in what is now the museum building at the factory complex in Hope, AR.

  42. It would certainly do that. I've seen issues before when subs are placed either where they're aesthetically pleasing or where the room dictates as opposed to using acoustic placement. Just for grins, I'd shut off either the ones behind the couch or the ones in the wall and see if bass improves.

  47. If that room is a basement in my personal experience it may not be enough. I lost about 10 db. going from roughly the same size space upstairs when I moved the gear to the basement. That space also looks open in several areas which was another problem I ran into. Concrete cover with carpet will deliver less tactile response than being on a wood floor. Drop ceiling and some other construction basement ceilings can act as bass traps in a negative way. Symmetrically placed subs will reinforce the same dips and peaks in the FR. Also, that seating looks to be close to half way of the length of the room which is an area of poor bass. Some measurement would help before choosing which direction to go as a remedy.
