  1. Good morning all. Well after playing 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 16 years, my rack of SAE audio in my office, finally failed. Specifically the preamp started just turning itself off and resetting everything to zero. Now to determine if I want to replace the SAE P102 pre or just put a smaller system in my office. Decisions decisions. For the moment, I'm just streaming Pandora. Ya'll have a great day.

  2. Just went through a rack of LPs with the LF on the phone. We limited the take to 3 egg crates. She named the artist and I would tell her the titles to look for. Think I amazed her at knowing so many but told her those titles were standard issue for any old hippies.... If all LPs were on hand I often took the more obscure. Did ask her to bring all the Beatles and Stones as some may be collectable. The "White" album was unopened!! Tull's "Aqualung" also unopened. I asked about the condition of the covers and she said they all look like new. This is going to be fun

Oh and the B&O gear as well. Good idea Carl.....I would hate to break up that rack of gear. Can't make out the initials on the speakers. JBL?

  8. Good grief ...there's a lot to catch up on since yesterday ... We got a taste of winter with a dusting of snow preceeded by rain. Shirt sleeves yesterday and coats today. Not even going over 50 degrees today. Interesting discussion of 'OC'. Different world than mine and I'm good with that! Wardsweb ... looks like a perfect excuse to shop for a new toy. I've never run equipment so hard that it just died so I had to find other reasons to replace it, like moving it to Better Half's art studio as a 'gift' in her system. Making such a gift, of course, forced me to buy a new Parasound separates for my system. Cheers, guys.

Just like to see one year without Skeeters after every rain. Could make a farm run, nut crop is in and processed, the wife will be in nut heven. Turkey/Avacado/Club sounding pretty good, even for breakfast

  12. As to the drinking of Guinness, there is a long standing theory, to which I subscribe, that the closer to Dublin, the better the taste. At the Gravity bar at Saint James Gate, it was excellent. Also while carousing in the Temple Bar district.

  14. Myself I have never had a good Guinness in my life. Just don't like that kind of beer at all. Not sure but I'd swear they don't sell us the "real" Guinness here in the states. Might have to travel to a pub in Ireland to be sure! I was enjoying some Guinness at a pub in London many years ago on New Years eve. There was no loud music playing so people could actually carry on conversations. Nobody was paying attention to the time so it was 10 minutes after midnight when somebody noticed it was the new year. We all stopped to have our own countdown and auld lang syne. Side note: This wasn't long after the horrible subway fire at King's cross that killed a bunch of people. One of the patrons at the bar was a fireman and described his experience and the carnage. He seemed to be pretty distressed by it still but it didn't keep him from hitting on the girl I was with. I came close to straightening his tie for him.

  16. Watching a local news special about "digital addiction" last night. Folks are now being treated for their addiction to smart phones and computers. Some folks report checking their email 200 times a day Shoot I don't even check the Klipsch Forums that much So LF may be back this Sunday with a B&O turntable still unwrapped and B&O separates, plus a box of albums. She is calling me today to see which albums to bring as car space is limited. These were some of the late husbands toys that he never got around to using Toby the Bassett is on his way by now. Best wishes....... Hang in there worker bees.....tomorrow is Friday. Cheers Ladies and Gents

  19. A pleasant evening to one and all. My beer snob son might be impressed with my purchase of Brother Benjamin Imperial IPA. The label warns, "Prepare to be mystified." At these prices, I'll either be mystified by the quality or mystified why I bought the stuff. The prices almost make me feel like I'm at Comerica Park watching the Tigers. Almost, because $14.59 for four works out to $3.65 each which is less than half the $8.00 the Tigers charge for a Bud Lite. Greenbush is a Michigan craft brewer. I like to sample the local products. EDIT My son just informed me that an Imperial IPA is ~10% alcohol, so like 2 regular beers. No operating heavy machinery tonight.

  20. Jake's right, there are to many good dogs out there looking for homes already. We have two, only one from a shelter. My daughter is a hospice nurse and lost a patient who had a little dog and no family, so instead of her dog going to a shelter she took it, and it ended up with us. Both our dogs are good dogs, a min-pin and a Chihuahua which does not act like a Chihuahua at all, I guess because it was raised by an old lady ? They drive me crazy, and they have both trained me to supply treats regularly. Well Jakes say to tell them to chill.....

  21. We had what will probably be one of our last really, really nice days and evenings here in N. Indiana, so our small circle of neighbors decided to have an impromptu cookout, firepit fire, and tunes, courtesy of (you know who....) Once again, set up my refrubed beater La Scala's out in the driveway, streaming Spotify Premium through a nice Yamaha receiver. Every time I do that, I come away with an appreciation of how great these speakers really are....nothing to worry about as far as room size, reflections, bass traps, etc, etc, etc....just pure quality. Great time.

  22. Agreed. Also anxious to see pics of your B&O gear. I bought a B&O TT in the early 80's and had it for many years. Really nice unit. The only issue with them today may be cartridge availability, at least according to one of our local stereo shops. I can't vouch for that, but you might want to check it out.

  24. Good morning! Well, the Imperial IPA was good, but I won't be buying it again soon at $3.65/bottle, even if it is ~10% alcohol. I try to purchase all my beer and 2% milk from the convenience store in my neighborhood. I want them to stay in business to be there when something else is needed in an emergency. They have tough competition from a 24 hour Meijer (Midwest counterpart to Wal-Mart with groceries). I know the owners by name, in fact they're customers of mine also. I'm sure alcohol and tobacco make up most of their sales. I'm no help regarding tobacco and very little help with alcohol. For such a small store, they have a remarkably large selection of boutique beers. I'll have to ask Dave, the owner, how sales of the Imperial IPA are doing. Don't forget, at $3.65/bottle, that's just a penny a day if you sip it very slowly. PS: I feel bad. I forgot to vote on Tuesday. Now I can't complain about the City Commission or the Library Board.

  35. Thanks Joe (and all the other likes...) This trip is kind of an experiment for pics. Almost all of the shots I have taken are with my new phone. makes for more of a point and shoot, although there are some settings on the phone for focus, iso, +/- f-stop, etc. Because of the extreme compression, I'm copying to my old netbook and saving as TIFFs before I do anything else with them (which I haven't done other than to resize). Here's breakfast. Presentation was great. I had two eggs suunyside up, about five slices of bacon, some chopped gream tomatoes with rice (chopped and browned garlic on top. My fruit bowl is pineapple/mango/banana/papaya/watermelon, with a honey/calamansi dip. Wife's plate is all fruit. I had mango juice and coffee. I think it ran about $10. Bruce

  37. In the 60s and 70s prodigious quantities of beer were consumed. Lately I agree with dtel, quality is more important. I don't want to waste calories or brain cells on a Bud, PBR, Miller Lite, etc. My wife was embarrassed at a business related private party when I asked the strolling server if they had any beer that couldn't be mistaken fo a urine specimen. The best they had was Newcastle Brown Ale. When you only drink a beer a week, it might as well be good.

  38. That's a good price, I love small brews like that, i really don't like regular label beer enough to even drink it. But off brand small breweries is where it's at, so many different flavors you never have to be stuck with crap. I just found out we have a small brewery about 30 minutes from here I need to try. I think the wife and I may go take the tour and taste everything. http://lazymagnolia.com/#home There is another about 30 minutes the other way and I had quite a few of there different beers, need to take that tour also. https://abita.com/ You know what's crazy in the little town we live in our local grocery sells Red Stripe beer from Jamaica, really in this hole in the wall town, it's crazy.

  40. Thanks!Last night I mounted the horns to the baffles and initially set up the tweeters on the the front of the baffle, centered and flush. I then listened for about an hour to tracks that had harsh passages. The baffles do indeed tame the mids considerably. They are not "perfect" but there is a huge improvement! Then, as seen in the photo below I fabbed some tweeter stands and on the recommendation of Chris A and marvel I moved the tweeters back about 17" from the front of the baffle. The effect was considerable. The sound stage definitely opens up and gives the room more depth. The tweeters seem to lose some of their analytical edge and the speakers as a whole sound more musical. (I try not to use subjective terms, but that was my observation) The combination of the addition of the baffle and the new tweeter placement changed the sound the speakers in a huge way. I need to listen some more and keep playing with the tweeter placement. Moray, I have printed a few curves for the k tubes and found several threads on the topic. I may dig the old Mac out of the closet and draw a few curves with illustrator, should simplify the process. when you tried the single cutaway versions did you mount them horizontally, or at an angle? Edit. I also plan on adding a panel above the k401 below the tweeters. I am curious to hear what effect it may have.

  43. Is that Blue Bunny or Blue Bell..........................Listeria last I heard was Blue Bell, Pizzed me off to as we had recently discovered Blue Bell after moving to NC, next thing we know none on the shelves, Then the news of all the recalls here......It is still not back on the shelf I just heard the 'blue' in the name and added it to the list of factory made ice cream I won't eat. The chicken sandwich at a local MacDonalds is to blame for this. I ate their chicken sandwich just once when I was young and stupid and found myself so sick at work the next morning with campilobacter that ended with 10 days in hospital that I resolved never to eat fast food or other chicken that I didn't actually cook myself. Since then I've added the Death in the Box chain, and any other chain that prides themselves on cooking large hamburgers as fast food. Just a couple of years back, I added shredded lettuce to my list of no-no's and I suspect the recent outbreak of E.coli 026 illness at a chain down here called Chipolte is indicative of an issue with centrally sourced lettuce or some other pre-processed vegetable. I really hope the E.coli 026 strain that showed up in Germany a few years ago never makes it across the Atlantic but it is only a matter of time before it does.

  45. I read alot about the rescue dogs, I just cant seem to find them....................I would love another Bulldog we had an English Bulldog when the boys were born (Chopper) I had to give him to my dad He was a true bulldog, not one ounce of ease about him if he wanted to go someplace he went straight there without hesitation or deviation Jacob was a bit sickly and Chopper was not a match for infants at 50ish pounds if he landed on the boys it would not be great, I worked 14 to 16 hours a day and the wife with 2 infants and Chopper was not happening Sadly Chopper died a couple years back So as the boys are older now if I had the opportunity to rescue a Bullie I would be all in

First Toby went to the vet this morning and has lost 13 pounds! Good work Toby! Learned he is going to a Bassett rescue group in Nebraska not a furever home I took him a new choke chain and told him to continue to be a good boy and someone will give him the home he deserves. He didn't want to go back inside and turned and looked with me with those big brown eyes. I teared up. Okay I would be remiss to not take advantage of this opportunity to ask each of you if you're considering a pet....consider a rescue dog. Save a life...or two. Actually Jake reminded me to say that Works for me.
