  1. Good Saturday morning gang, its been a while since I have posted here. I didn't want you folks to think I have forgotten about you. I tried to read when I can. Sounds like all is doing good, except for Ward's house issues and Dave's dog. Dave I have only had to put dogs down as a child, though it was hard I feel when I have to put down my family's dogs and or pets it will be even harder. Seems the rest of you have been up to your normal projects and what not. Mark, your landscaping photo reminds me of a time a bunch of girls got back at my brother. By using mustard and Ketchup to draw the same design all over his car. Lets just say the lesbians living across the street didn't find it funny. Weather has been back and forth here, for some its great for allergies and sinuses its not. Breakfast was Mark's favorite Belgium waffles, along with sausage links. Coffee has been ok, but plentiful. I purchased a two pound bag of Pears French roast from Sam's. Pears is made here in Omaha, its ok but kind of weak. It will get me by, I am hoping they build a Costco near by soon so I can venture there and try their coffee, whiskey, and vodka. I recently built a HDTV antenna, I am hoping to eventually cut cable. I was looking at HDHomerun Prime, which I will connect the antenna to and it will allow me to stream local tv to all devices that can have apps. Then will pick up a NVIDIA Shield to stream the app, along with Sling Television; which will get me ESPN, AMC, and eventually BTN. I will only be saving $15.00 a month, but will be getting ESPN, and the BTN. Which I currently don't have.

  2. Nippy Good Morning Gang 41, long johns are on for the next few months. So i wake up to an email from an audio forum moderator on the FB, chewing on me for posting an update on my McM project, i have a lot followers, this guy ask if these are :Vintage:? Well 30 years as well as the EAWs, so i ask him does everything posted here need to be as old as him? public page statment. Then i banned the group. In other news, my foot heater is now running. Swapmeet CornDog(s) could happen, lets see if the wife will endure the wind chill. Iv been informed the farmers came in with, Geese, Duck,Turkey, Dove and 23 squrilles, They attack walnuts so it's pretty much open season year round on Squrilles. I just know if i go out there, they will say take whatever you want....Hummm, maybe a duck. The Duggans enhanced fresh ground starbucks breakfast beans, are tastey this morning.

  4. Mornin' guys and Happy Saturday. This will be the first Saturday in while that I don't have major yardwork/clean up to do except maybe a little mulching. Our yard is not huge but has many beds with tons of great perennials, all of which need cutting back in the fall. Major PITA but worth it in spring and summer. Mark ... the 'landscapping' is a riot. Would love to see the reaction to that in PC Denver. (Note ...we only got PC in the last decade or so with population growth from other parts of the country). Cheers folks. Enjoy the day.

  5. Mark, funny you say coar hanger. This is what i built for $7.00 and 4 coat hangers. I get 20 channels, defining all of what was said over at AVS, its even in the basement. I was looking at one of the ones you posted but for attic mounting (which i believe are the same). I just thought i would try the bear minimal to make sure i wasn't wasting time or money.

  6. This is what i have been running for the last 5 years, "UHF Bowtie" the bigger the better and you only buy it once. HD is standard reception and you could get it with a coat hanger if you really wanted to. This is a Channelmaster, great design and i can pullin stations from Frisco at night, "85" miles west. 27 stations are normal, 40 if i spoke spanish. but FREE, and that is what counts. Anyone in America can do this.

  7. When Bobby was playing, I joined his dad at the Nebraska game against Texas A&M. What a great venue. The tailgating was incredible. The fans were amazingly gracious. We could only feel sorry for them when they visit Columbus, Ann Arbor or even East Lansing. Hospitality seems to be unknown at the Big House and the Horseshoe. Now that I'm done with my lunch of alcohol and carcinogens, I'll go outside and prime a tapped horn. I chose the All Day IPA rather than the Imperial IPA. The latter would have had me priming the driveway. Enjoy the day. May the best teams win. TAKE THAT CONSUMER REPORTS!

  9. Looking for property here in the Philippines... gets really hot here but we looked at a place last week, about 9 degrees N. Lat. Very cool when a breeze was blowing. About 6 miles inland and 800ft above sea level. We fell in love with the place. Right now, 6:30am and 79 defrees, humidity is probably higher. Bruce Edit: fairly safe from typhoons, volcano activity and tectonic plate movements... been trying to research everything. Elecric bills are low due to a huge geothermal power station and water is free.

  10. You need new batt(s) and if they have more units available to buy, get a couple more. These dam things are great and you can see the prices on the bay. Always start with new Batt, they last aprox 5 years, and all batts can be bought on the bay, just shop a little USP circuits require a good Batt.

  14. $60 bucks + or- and you only buy it once, just think of the hundreds you have paid for pay TV. 60bucks for a matched Ant is nothing. There are many designs, the biggest for the money is the way you want to think. The wire rack attracks the UHF the small "Bowties" are the collector/feed, so bigger makes more sense. And attic install is great, do that. Mine is on the roof cause im an old Ham.

  19. Mark maybe you can answer this, do you know if a UPS will run / power on without batteries connected specific model sua3000rm2u Looked at the manual and it is kind of unclear, local (ish) college is switching out supplies and this one runs 500.00 and up used refurbished (I can get for under 50.00) but when plugged in first thing I got was an led stating plugged into improperly wired circuit, I fixed that...................but batteries are basically dead and I get no indication of power at all now, Opened the case and tested power in and through the breaker both show good. But I dont see any power on the board so I am curious if no battery power causes a shut down all together

My winter hobby is playing with my "BUD" (big ugly dish) and i search for free up there also, lots of free around. Clouds can and do block signals even for dish owners, chit happens.

Directional is correct, get it up and run an autoprogram, note how many lockin. twist 1/4 turn and run autoprogram again, do this four or five times and you will see the max channels you can lockin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Channel-Master-TV-Antenna-EXTREMEtenna-80-Miles-VHF-UHF-Multidirectional-4228HD-/261911647287?hash=item3cfb269437:g:-XsAAOSwstxVbQGr

Mark You bring your truck/trailer down to Knoxville....and we load two of them (a bit knicked up I'll admit) onto your trailer and you drive off. Save the sawdust for someone else. Man - don't tempt me with that. I mean, I already have the truck and trailer...and am only 3 hours away in Greenville...and have wanted to grab these and go get some 402s. Rather than incrementally upgrade, I figure I could save myself some stepping stones along the way. Boy that escalated quickly.

  24. Sorry for straying off topic, no warning points PLEASE! Sometimes I wonder why I come here. And then I realize it's because the vast majority of people are incredible, from all walks of life. So many people who will go out of their way to help each other and educate the people who are like me, I know the sound I like, I just don't and have never really understood the technical side to it. And more importantly, even at my age, I keep learning from people who share their life's experiences, the one thing I've learned is when you quit trying to learn, have someone pat you in the face with a shovel Many thanks for allowing me to be here! 25. lol ditched them as soon as I got them. Ummm had them for about six months. Keep in mind I bought my first Klipsch speakers in 2010. I've had about 250-300 speakers since that time. So keeping a set for 6 months is a big deal for me. Why did they go? Well I'll go ahead and put this out there. Regardless of what people think about me since I'm always buying stuff. I make 16$ an hour. So paying 10,000$ on a home theater set like the palladiums meant draining my savings. Stupid when I rent a house and have other bills? Absolutely! But I did it cause I got a good deal and wanted to try them out in my home. If I could have scrounged together and replenished my savings I would have and the palladiums would still be here. In fact I miss them more than any other speaker I've had. But savings had to be filled back up. Was stressing me out BAD. So they got sold. There. That is the story and now you and the two or three others can know as well.

If you go to the main page where you see all the threads, you can click on the "replies" (where it shows the total number of replies to a particular thread) and a box pops up with members and posts within the thread. 32. I just felt there needed to be clarification as to why they were sold since people apparently were talking about it. don't want possible palladium owners to be scared away reading that somewhere. I got rid of them for one reason. not anything to do with the sound quality. I don't? is there a place where you can see that kind of info? that's awesome. I have read it quite a few times myself. recapping what I did so I can get this current build done that I am working on. 100 diy is much harder than the flat packs. the bracing has been my biggest obstacle. but it will be cool in the end and even much cheaper than before when I did.

  36. Scrappy ....nobody cares what you make ....don't think we care what anybody makes. Come on do you know how many hits your DIY 18 inch sub link got. I personally read it at least 10 times...thought about doing one but bought one instead. Your lower level home theater consists of things alot of us dream about. You are an upstanding member of this community...250 to 300 speakers since 2010...I thought I had a sickness... I think you may need an intervention. Nothing drastic....locking you in a room with an Accousimas system for a couple of days should do...you will come out shakey. As far as Paladiums ...I personally think they are in a class by themselves. Klipsch decided to step into the high end market place to compete with the likes of Focal /Magico/Legacy/Wilson audio..... just to name a few. I think they nailed it ...so to speak great sound great look. The minute I saw them I said those aren't Klipsch....but after doing more research ...I believe the phrase was used what kind of speakers could Klipsch build when price was no concern. Thus we have Paladiums... Ledendary ...maybe with time....Heritage No. Great speaker of course. Don't get me wrong I personally would never buy them....10 grand is something you buy to drive not to listen to. Back to the Heritige line again. I had my first experence with Klipsch speakers back when I was in High school (which was before a lot of people in this community were born) I have been hooked ever since. I have never owned anything but Klipsch (Ok once ....but I did get counseling)(subs don't count) Interesting topic G.E.M.

On another note, we should make a small wager regarding the game this evening between the Huskers and Spartans. 39. The research of how empires rise and what ultimately causes their demise can be found in numerous sources. It's not disputed that every great civilization has a beginning and end. Why they end should be of great interest so as to possibly avoid the same pitfalls. However, it seems nobody ever learns from history. The conceptual theories used to describe those rises and falls are more colorful and in fact, quite confrontational and not suitable for these forums. I chose the bunnies and wolves version as I had read about it and it seemed the least confrontational here. The identities could be substituted through any number of descriptive properties I suppose. Such as type A and type B personalities in place of wolves and bunnies. Although I can't relate to any negative connotations to either of the caricatures as both have their redeeming qualities, and therefor appropriate. Ultimately, the question isn't who the bunnies are, and who the wolves are. The question is WHY great civilizations follow these paths that always result in their collapse. Rome didn't fall as the result of outside forces, contrary to popular belief that they were conquered by the barbarians. Rome fell from within and this allowed the barbarians to finish them off, if you will. Rome was well on its way before the barbarians came around. Spain of the middle millennia is the same story. The Greeks of ancient. The Egyptians. They all became great civilizations from an adherence to a certain set of values. Then at some point that all changes and they begin their inevitable slide. For our own precarious situation I think Alexander Tyler described it best with his 8 phases of democracy: 1. From bondage to spiritual faith; 2. From spiritual faith to great courage; 3. From courage to liberty; 4. From liberty to abundance; 5. From abundance to complacency; 6. From complacency to apathy; 7. From apathy to dependence; 8. From dependence back into bondage Personally, I see us between 7 and 8. Interesting. At what point do you believe the U.S. slipped into 7? Here is a chronological list of fairly significant events that many should be aware of that starts with the industrial revolution. Are there any correlations that can be made here or is something else the determining factor? Industrial Revolution Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone General Electric founded Spanish American War U.S. Steel founded Airplane invented Automobile invented Federal Reserve created World War I Great Depression New Deal programs implemented by FDR Golden Gate Bridge completed World War II Holocaust Atomic bomb used to end war with Japan Marshall Plan rebuilds Europe & Japan US emerges from the war as the only great economic power Cold War Korean War Interstate highway system built Civil Rights Movement John F. 40. Profits with No Prosperity From 2003 to 2012, the S&P 500 companies spent $2.4Trillion on stock repurchases. The beneficiaries of this are the executives who have most of their comp tied up in stock options, and shareholders who get a boost in the asset price. So let's think it through. All these biggest public companies are making huge profits, which they use NOT to invest in productivity, factories, jobs, research, benefits, or employee pay, but rather as pure leverage to boost their own take. This happens in a completely non-democratic environment of the Imperial CEO. It's robbing the entire 330 million people in the country of prosperity for the benefit of a few. It's bad economics (who cares as long as the CEO get's his) and it's bad ethics in the citizenry. For people at the bottom, it looks like a license to steal. What do you think their reaction is?

  41. For example: States are using Medicaid dollars to pay the healthcare costs of hundreds of thousands of WalMart workers (and others that are working too.) That's dumb. But, WM has enough clout to block min wage and living wage movements. The original reason for people to band together to form a civilization is "mutual benefit and defense." If you instead, make the nation a "free fire zone" for the biggest dog to eat the rest, where's the motivation for citizenship? "Love your neighbor as yourself." To the extent we have massive wealth, and we surely do, there's little reason not to boost everyone a notch.

  42. Maybe instead of calling it a "minimum wage", which basicallyis your employer saying "I'd pay you less if I could, so I could make more- but it's illegal, so here's the least amount I can give you." To calling it a "living wage" Where your efforts with a company that are necessary, even if it's "just flipping burgers", are rewarded with a wage that allows you to pay rent and afford to put food on your table and pay to go to school to better yourself. The way I see it, minimum wage is a dead end life, very few make it out. And think of it this way too... If everyone on this thread has a let's say... 50,000 income. We could all live comfortably. We could have a modest house, a decent car, and put food on the table. And all of us could still enjoy this speaker hobby... And stimulate all of the businesses with this hobby. Now, If all of us only made 15,000 a year.... None of us could pay the rent, and food, and maybe go to a community college to get the night shift manager job at burger world. (Moving up!! Yeah right) - and none of us could afford these awesome speaker setups. BUT the one ceo could afford to. But can he realistically purchase as much as all of us would? Would he really need 10,000 speakers? And Amps, and cables? The masses support the economy. And when all of it goes to a select few... Nothing will ever change. In my business, I wish more people had better wages , because then they could purchase my services. Instead- I rely on the elites to come and see me.

  43. In a nutshell here's the deal: Companies that are allowed to pay people such a small amount that they qualify for government benefits are essentially being subsidized by the government. Every one of us has to decide if that's what we really want. I suppose the truly heartless would simply remove any level of public support from the workers to solve this dilemma. FFS, we already have a homeless problem, why not make it worse?

  45. Dave, I made a similar comment. Pay people enough to incentivize work such that they still don't qualify for food stamps, etc. Metro, your point is superfluous in that while it is economically correct, you miss the moral issue as a reflection of our society that places a way more inordinate value on the value of one's labor versus another. It's not envy driving the argument (or "ceo hate"), it a sense of pure human fairness. I get what you say about small business, but if the business owner weren't making enough in the first place they wouldn't feel a need to hire anyone. Let's not put the cart before the horse.
