  1. So, Hope, AR is just a jump, a hop and a skip for you!

  2. I just purchased the RF 7 II's made in 2010. My old RF 7's are from 03 with the original XO. I did the transitor mod on the RF 7's but, change thing back several months ago. I thought it took to much of the Hi's for my taste and wanted my original 7's back. I knew the 7 II's had the XO lowered to around 1400 compared to 2200 for the 7's. Slight toying with cabinet size and cosmetic but, nothing else is that different between the two speakers. For the comparison I used the yaquin VK 2100 integrated amp, 80 watt hybird. Tube preamp and SS rear along with my BDP, Samsung F 7500. This was their best BDP when I got a couple of years ago and I can't say anything negative about the music quality. Both speakers were ran full range. Yesterday I Immediate detected a slight difference in the midrange in the 7 II's. So, today I put them side by side for a better comparison. I selected Celine Dion due to her vocal range, Rihanna since she has a distinct vocal quality and the music is well master for clarity and bass. Soul Ballet was selected becuase some of it has big sound similar to an orchestra, nice acoustic guitar, and delicate passages. and Kevin Toney's Strut for a nice jazz recording. First up, Celine Dion, Love Me Back to Life. Both speakers did justice to this wonderful voice. Nothing was missing from either speaker that I could detect. Celine's voice had a slight edginess with the old RF 7's. Don't take this has bad in no way. It's actually a slightly more live sound similar to a concert. The 7 II's appear to have oh so slightly more separation in the midrange and a slightly smoother top end. Overall both get a 5 star mark. Now Rihanna's new album Anti. The most striking difference which is not by much is the bass. The old 7's sounded tighter and hit a bit harder. Remember, these are slight differences and nothing can be said to be a night and day difference. Soul Ballet for a 180 degree change in music style. This one has a wide dynamic Range and mostly all instruments. The 7' II's had the edge hear. Separation and the smoother presentation was the key. Both speakers were well represented and the RF 7 was not far behind. Kevin Toney's Strut, known for deep bass and a sparkling top end was the last one for this quick comparison. The 7's had the Lo's and the 7 II's had the Hi's: both by a narrow margin. One thing is clear, There is no doubt why the RF 7 and 7 II are flagships speakers. Both have a well refined sound, easy to drive and wide dynamic range. The new speaker has a slightly wider range listed in the spec's but, I could not detect any difference. Most of us can't hear up at 24 kHz. I like both speakers and unfortunately don't need to keep both. Cosmetically no difference really as far as I am concerned, I like either. There are a few more blemished on the 7 II's compared to my 7's, which are near perfect except for two missing grill pegs. You have to be looking for the blemishes and nothing stands out at a distance. I wondered how good the XO were on the old 7's, darn good! If anyone is looking to upgrade, I don't see how you could not be happy with either of these speakers!

  3. Now that is a great test to see if any amp sounds good, cat test. I always enjoy following Mike's and Maynard's build threads and I'm not sure you can find better examples of wiring technique. However, I did get a chuckle out of this one since from the picture I can't tell if the dog doesn't care or is actually covering its ears planning a leap for the "ear bleed control knob." .

  4. I haven't seen one of those for years since moving back to the rust belt, but I remember a time that I rented one on Paradise Island so we could drive around the island and visit the Rum distillery on the opposite side of the island. Beat the hell out of that vehicle and tried to break it, but it just kept going. I need a little run around like this again, or maybe a jeep, but would not buy anything that has lived it's life here for sure.

  5. It's not what you're looking for (and not framed), but you can have my 65th anniversary poster for the cost of shipping and insurance. The only things I want in return are for you to post a photo once framed, and give your word that you won't sell it for a profit. It's number 403/500 from the limited edition.

  9. I have some Mobol oil cases that were here when we moved in, transmission fluid as well, plastic containers are so old they have been starting to give way. Threw out a case worth already, been using the 10 W 40 in the bike and have not had a problem. If it is visibly separated for whatever reason i would not use it. Anybody local who needs some ATF feel free to pick some up. Might bring some money on Epay.

  17. PWK is hard to read like Frued. True geniuses usually are, and don't bounce around trying to explain themselves. Is there anything he didn't cover in that DFH article? If you don't want the low power of SET but still want tubes Bob Carver sells some decent amps: Silver Seven 700 - Specifications: Rated Power (8 ohms): 700 watts RMS continuous, 900 watts RMS with speech and music, Frequency Response: 2 Hz to 85 kHz (-3 dB), wt 45lbs ea, price $32,000 / pair

  18. Since there are some plants I guess i could put some here, it's not done, I keep adding on and changing things. The front with vines climbing is in the summer, they are morning glory vines, I just like how they cover. Waterfall off the roof is just pumped from the pond, the backside of the bar has outlets and dimmer switches for the lights and led rope lights that can change colors under the edge of the bar that shine down, all you can see is the front of the bar lit and the ground around it, no lights. In the winter we build fires out behind the bar when it's cold. It started as a place to sit in the shade and went from there, yes there are speakers under the roof by the ceiling behind the bar, Heresy's and they sound good out there especially when laying in a hammock. In the pic of the back ceiling the Heresy's are behind the net angled down. Some pictures are at different stages of building, it's always changing and the plantings are not done. We spend alot of time out there, and it's great for party's.

  19. That's very true, my brother in law and his wife just moved from around Fairbanks about 10 months ago, they were there for 20 years and just got tired of the cold. When they left AK it took them weeks to get to California, they were driving a RV , sold business, house and everything else and left. The got to the South over toward Texas last summer and the heat almost killed them, they are living here now and it's going to be interesting this summer even though he is from here, she is from Hawaii.

  20. I noticed you have some big lakes near there. I remember you talking previously about the fish/fishing (Maybe on photography thread?). Anyway, it's just interesting to me how we can all chat on the computer from all around the world. Interesting note: One of the most valuable antique car tags to find is a 1924 Alaska. Just in case you have any laying around LOL. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-1924-Alaska-License-Plate-Collectors-/151974089078?hash=item23625c9176:g:cQcAAOSwa-dWtE~k

  21. Moved here with my parents at age 14. Came back after college, it's become home (25 years later...) I am a financial advisor, for fun I chase my 3 yo and 1 yo boys around everywhere. Thankfully they LOVE music and I am able to make use of the Klipsch hobby er.. habit with them. When we travel it's about a 3 1/2 hr flight to Seattle, then the trip starts. It IS a long way from just about every where!

  24. Happy Monday! Enjoying cup #2 this morning and it's opening day! I may or may not have the Braves game streaming in during the afternoon at work... Hope you are all well! I'm pretty jealous of all the Hope talk, one day. I think I would learn more about sound and personalities in one weekend than I could in a lifetime elsewhere. LOVE the pic of the old radio a few pages back! I also love their version of eye candy standing next to it. My great grandmother would probably raise an eyebrow if she saw my grandfather looking at that. Enjoy the week!

  29. Motor oil is motor oil. I wouldn't use it. I had a friend that worked at a Mercedes shop for years and had accumulated cases of canned motor oil over the years. We opened up some of the older cans and it looked like it had started to separate somehow. Bear in mind, he had it a loooooooong time.

  32. KeyOfGee, I own seven Klipsch TSCM's, which are the Pro theatre version of the Klipschorn. I run four 2 channel stereo amplifiers to get my seven channels of amplification. I run two Nakamichi PA-7II's at 225 watts RMS per channel to drive my front three channels, and I run two Nakamichi PA-7's at 200 watts RMS per channel to drive the four remaining channels. These are A A/B amplifiers and will never operate outside of class A at anywhere near listening levels. A big amplifier with big caps and an over abundance of reserve will also provide better Bass at low listening levels as well. My end plan will be to eventually tri-amp these speakers with time delay built into the mids and highs. Roger

  36. Very nice review. I too didn't hear too much difference between the RF7 and RF7ii. The 7ii we just a bit more smooth in the top end but like you said, both are fantastic. I prefer the copper on the RF7ii.

  37. How is the THTLP far better than the F-20? The manner of how it is built, design is better constructed. Please explain this and how does it translate to better performance? I was under the impression that the F-20 is an easier build with less complex cuts. Does the F-20 lack bracing or some have some other fundamental structural shortcoming? The F-20 appears to have lower extension. Do we have measurements which show lower distortion of the THTLP over the F-20? I had a long talk with Bill about the F-20 wondering myself. Never said anything about performance, distortion or extension but there are some numbers out there if you wish to compare in my link provided <here> and everything else is available at BFM websight. The THT has been updated and perfected throughout the years into a better design, if i recall the early THT was of built with 3/4 stock as well. Mike had purchased THT plans from Bill and basically refolded the design much like many Klipsch designs have been copied over the years. The F-20 is easier to build because it is less complex. A high pass filter is also recommended for the F-20 where the THT series reaches X-max @ 22 Hz and needs no high pass filter because it was designed properly. In basic terms one was designed by a professional and the other by a weekend warrior. I see nothing wrong with building your own designs, in fact I'm all for it but the differences are clearly seen if you put the two side by side.

  40. How much were you winning at $8 worth of liquor? Is this a test ? Just trying to figure out if alcohol helps or hurts when playing poker $3.50 If you get too drunk and throw caution to the wind its probably not a good thing. I normally come out ahead but not always. Just for fun anyways, nickel, dime, quarter poker just makes things more interesting.
