I'm sorry [and cheap].. $240/bottle.... a fifth... Can't be that good. Like the mega $$$ bottles of wine/vinegar. For folks that have more dollars than sense. then ... I do drive a 30 year old beater car and roll my own cigarettes. My $$ are kinda precious. I splurge on good coffee.4 points

Oh yeaaa, you've go to pay for the smooth stuff Four Roses Single Barrel @ $43 is smooth, might not be as complex with flavors as that blue should be but a shot will give you something to think about for way less. *Darn, I'm talking about bourbon and you about scotch, sorry.4 points

Never was a heavy drinker, excluding parties for the most part, but you have to realize I am 61 now so I am into pacing myself. At 61 a 3-day party without pacing myself is just to rough. Like this past weekend, a couple came into town to go on a cruise, we hung out for a couple days and spent a bunch of time out in the tiki bar, so I had to pace myself. I did pretty well until Sat night, somewhat, we drove them to the port Sun morning. 4 others coming in from Arkansas in a week and a half for the same thing, they will get here a few days early, but this time were all going on a cruise for a week all drinks included, I must pace myself, or try.3 points

Haha. Save money where you can. More money to spend on audio. I'm with you.3 points

Guaranteed, I have never heard a live band that sounded 15+ times better than home. If you're just making screwdrivers you could have gotten away with a cheaper brand. Very true Reminds me of a bar on a beach we were at, that had Tequila shots, 3 prices, $3, $4, and $6 so I asked, what would do if you planned to have a bunch. The guy smiled and said start at the top after 2-3 move to the cheaper ones I bet after a while you will notice no difference, he was right.3 points

Long-time lurker but first time poster. Picked up a pair of unmodified Cornwall I's a few years back and got hooked on the Klipsch sound. Been enjoying this community's knowledge and expertise - problem is now I want just want to move up into the La Scala, Belle, Khorn realm. And man the 402 horns look amazing - would love to give them a listen but I know how that goes - the pining and yearning, then the searching, the looking for a "deal", realizing their too good and very few let the good ones go and then finally forking out the cash for them. Same road I went down with my marantz tube gear but I have thoroughly enjoyed my Cornwalls with them so I know the search is usually worth it. Thanks again and look forward to learning more. === most men, in general, are not sarong worthy. And I picture a Leon Russell like figure in a sarong, Thanks but no. Indeed the desert is best for such a spectacle. Even the rattlers would head for their rocks —3 points

You can prioritize @WillyBob ! Do you spin them on top of those big matte black "pretties" ? 2' X 2' is a good tabletop size.3 points

I just joined and look forward to great fun ahead. I just unpacked my first pair of Klipsch speakers- Heresy IIIs. Unfortunately, I missed out on the cool special wood edition, but hopefully others will follow. James3 points

“and roll my own cigarettes”. I don’t find that surprising. And you still call them “cigarettes” — cute.3 points

. o O (morning thoughts) … I still wonder, from 50 year's ago... if my dad ever thought about what's wrong with that large bottle of Bourbon in his liquor cabinet behind the bar.... I mean, when we were 15 once, was our wisdom about concentration ratio's up to par with todays dilution experts....3 points

Walked in the other day to get a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label Scotch (aged 15 years) then saw they took my advice and got some Blue label (aged 25 years). They have both locked up, so the kid gets the key and I said, "Let's go w/the Blue." Happy that they finally got it here in Ohio. Kid rings it up, $238 a fifth... Said, "Mmmmm nope, stick w/the Green @ $70." Geez Louise! Seriously???3 points

I don't need nuttin' but beef & potatos, coffee and shelter! Actually saw them once when they had that spaceship show setup. George was a force. Not the whole show but a good part of it back when the schools had been segregated for a while but most of life wasn't. Folks were nice and the couple of songs I recognized they knew I couldn't dance worth a crap but I was diggin' it!3 points

Got lucky today, part came in for the compressor and it worked, I love when I can fix something cheap. When it would try to start it would just hum and trip the breaker, took out the start capacitor and ordered one the same size and it worked. The run capacitor was still good so for $7.50 and free shipping it's working again. I got so excited I changed the oil and cleaned the air filters, needed to be done anyway. Especially after at looking at the prices of new compressors.2 points

I hate to waste money also, I call it cheap, I sometimes drive the wife crazy, I research things to death before I decide what I want to buy.2 points

Yep, cigarettes I'm too cheap to spend 10 cents ea for good papers...ZigZag are cheap here... $2.50/pack of 32. And those are only marginal for anything beyond tobacco. I remember when there was a card pop outa the pack to "warn" you that you were down to 32 papers. Sigh That's why I have a glass pipe... A $5 pipe will last longer than a pack of papers, even with my fumble fingers.... I get 4 months out of a pipe, before I break it. Squeeze that eagle until it screams.2 points

so far this Monday morning, since it's been raining all day... I've found a nice screwdriver, and spent about 30 minutes slowing turning it with two hands, one on the handle, the other around the screw-head for protection, and slip prevention... listening to the squeaking and creaking while slowing loosing and removing, noting the polarity of the unmarked 64 year old white speaker cable's... then placing it on the top of the Primavera finish over bubble wrap, which was preceded first by the well thought out plan to move the bottle of Woody Creek closer to the cabinet containing glassware... on which stage two is about to entail a tasting trial, because it's 5:00 somewhere…. I don't know how to explain this any further, I'm getting thirsty just trying lol..2 points

Don't blame you at all, I don't need or want a drink that bad. Same thing, it cannot possibly sound however many times better than what I listen to to get up to 240K, impossible. I can just picture the thin fuzzy WillyBob rolling his own, listening to LaScalas wearing a sarong, in the desert. And it wasn't pretty2 points

I've always had Johnnie Walker Black around here. It's the only thing I ever drink for the most part. Neat always and sometimes w/a glass of ice water on the side. I bought a bottle of Green Label when I started my LS/system rebuild and it sat unopened on the coffee table with my PWK mug waiting on me to finish things up. It's complete and so refreshing to hear. IF I find things I've played in the evening sound great and I'm enjoying the vibe Johnnie is my reward. Pour a lil in my mug and sit back and smile... So yea, lots of smiling as I watch the bottle empty... 😭 Could break the bank actually but I'm smiling a lot!2 points

Cold Chisel, thought they were from our midwest. Recorded this with some lps from a couple I hung out with from SD long ago! Was not aware they came from the land of Angus & Malcolm & Bon & Phil! that's Earthquake and Rose Tattoo under the flash2 points

I haven't even opened the Woody Creek yet... never even bought a bottle of vodka that I can remember... I was reading about it, and it sounded good, and I thought at $32, being twice as expensive as everything else, it can't be that bad, then I read tonight, that the reserve edition is $90... what you're reading is from a guy that drink's canned beer lol, and I had to look up, wtf is Tarkus… so I'd figure that cap's gonna come off when I don't have to fix anything, soon...2 points

@JohnJ - That's my 1954 Klipschorn with it's wooden K-5-J squawker... I have the cover off, just because I like looking at it, and I'm fixin' on thinking about something like diffusion panels and capacitors and angle's and tweeters and dust and cast woofers and screws that shine and potato vodka and not disturbing anything, but the neighbor's...2 points

OK ... stupid ... but just had to share it and did not want to start a new thread about "stupidity." Hooked up my "new" Marantz 1060 to my stuff in the stereo room. NO right channel Got the 1060 off "offer-up" so thought "maybe I got screwed." Tried the "usual" i.e switching speakers, inputs, etc. ... 2 hours ... NO go OK; using a JVC P-3030 preamp with a "2 stage/dual" volume knob. Had them both turned to "full." Jeez ... the back knob on this pre-amp is NOT for L/R volume ... it's a "balance" knob and I had turned the right channel "off." Had not used this equipment for a couple of months Everything is GREAT now Thought you guys needed a "laugh." Jeez ... pouring a big glass of wine now Cheers, Emile1 point

Due to in progress kitchen remodel, the BUNN is in a spare bedroom and water comes from the bath. Cooking is confined to a toaster oven and microwave. This indoor camping is getting old. When I start feeling putout by the temporary lack of a kitchen sink, I’m reminded of those whose access to clean potable water is much more arduous.1 point

Sony STR-K750P (2003 - 2005) -- my first 5.1 Digital Receiver -- (Oddly i still have it in storage, but last i checked, it still works) very Entry level receiver, but did the job Pioneer VSX-515 (2005 - 2006) -- first 6.1 receiver (DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX) sold it to a friend..to this day, still running without issues) Denon 2307CI (2006 - 2012) -- first with HDMI and 7.1 output. Used PS3 to decode the high res audio via LPCM -- (It's new home is at the family business being used daily to drive 7 speakers -- still working like a champ) Onkyo TX-NR818 (2012-2018) -- first receiver with DTS Neo:X 9.2 (failed DTS product unfortunately; not to be confused with the new DTS:X ) -- The HDMI board recently died (apparently a common issue with Onkyo older receivers?), instead of seeking to repair, i decided to go Atmos route and 4k HDMI compatible Denon X4400h (2018-Current) -- Just purchased it, so no long term here, but first to have Dolby Atmos and 4k support I was nearly set to purchase the new Pioneer Elite VSX-LX503 (9.2) as it had the pre-outs, enabling to decode 11 channels with an external amp (which i already have). At MSRP $1000 , it is the best current budget receiver i think. (Pioneer is now owned by Onkyo by the way) However, due to the upcoming Denon X4500h, I noticed 2017-2018 Denon X4400h was on sale for $900 almost everywhere locally and on the net (from its $1600 MSRP price). It was a no brainer for me to order it, especially since my old Denon is still living and was wonderful in my theater room. Per personal experience: 1. Denon 2. Pioneer Elite series (mostly because best bang for your buck) 3. Onkyo (their sound and material quality is very good. But the HDMI board failing with very light use of the stereo in 5-6 years was a turn off for me) I've owned a Yamaha motorcycle and instruments, but never a receiver. I hear nothing but good things about them though. They just never happen to be on sale whenever i am in need of a receiver.1 point
