  2. Ode to my newly acquired H/K 430 Please bear with me. I know this anecdotal, and I have read similar stories on this forum but I would like to share it with you anyhow. So in the beginning of the week I bought a H/K 430 on an auction site from a private seller. He had a 100% rating as a buyer, but never had sold anything on the site. So that made me a bit nervous. It arrived on Friday (yesterday). After I contacted the seller to thank him for the excellent transaction, he told me he actually hadn't intended to sell it. He had owned it for a while, unused, and then put it on the auction site. Then he started listening to it. He loved it so much that he decided to restore it, so he had ordered an upgrade kit. That's when I came into the game and bought it and paid for it immediately with Paypal. He then realized he'd forgotten to take it off the auction site. For fear of losing his 100% rating, he reluctantly decided to let it go. So when I got home from work, the H/K 430 was in my carport, packed in a Canon A3 printer carbon box. I couldn't wait to unpack and to start listening. The amp is in pretty mint condition (for a 44 year old) and all the lights are working too. Connected to the 1972 Heresy's, The sound is simply amazing. After I connected an FM-antennae, the vu-meter went up to 7 or 8 for the main stations. At first, I thought the phono stage was just average, but later in the evening, it sounded much better (or my brain had adapted). Now I think it is amazing. Also CDs and my DAC sound pretty amazing. As the hours progressed, the bass tones became even more prominent. But all this, my friends, is just introductory. Late at night, my wife returned home. She was in a terrible state: a very long, tough working day, followed by 3 hours of difficult cello class. She was exhausted. I convinced her to take a seat in my listening rocking chair to have a quick listen to my new amp. Just five minutes. She reluctantly gave in and sat down. I started playing Katie Melua’s “The Closest thing to Crazy”. The wife closed her eyes. ‘Now play “Nine Million Bycicles” please.” Her eyes were still closed. When that song ended, she said: “Now play “Oblivion” (Il Gardellino).’ And she added: “Does it also play any louder.” It was already past midnight. Our 3 teenage kids were already in bed. She: “Turn it up a bit.” Now usually, she would say something like: “Can you turn that damn music down please.” But not tonight! So we ended up browsing through our Spotify playlist until way past 1 o’clock. All stress and exhaustion was wiped off her face. As we were going through the ‘usual suspects’ on my playlist, I had an existentialist experience: it was as if I had never heard them before. Really. Just like that. The more I focussed, the more they sounded completely new to me. Mind you, no alcohol consumption was involved. 😉

  3. Whew, this one and For Earth Below just kept on getting more and more loud a while ago. The controlled guitar, That singer's voice, only three times that I got to see them, the last time at a club a mile away that held 500 tops but it wasn't James Dewar singing. Was still great though!

  16. Hello @MicroMara I had to move some stuff again after my mom's brother came and took the antiques that I felt needed to stay in her family. Moving LP crates just a foot over with a twist took a half an hour. I had to empty them, even if I could have picked them up think they would have broke apart. This came into view and haven't heard it in a long while. Good for a Saturday evening after your football team goes 5-0 in spectacular fashion 73-7

  21. Just found this story about LRAD, "Long range acoustic device". It can send a voice or different sounds up to 2 miles as a bullhorn at 90 db, or other signals at 137 to 162 decibels at long distances.

  22. I've been in litigation my entire career. I've had to appeal judges several times. I've had a good number of jury trials. Knowledge of the law (or at least the ability to grasp it pretty quickly from legal arguments of counsel) is very important. Also very important is demeanor. Some judges like to intimidate mere mortal attorneys. I dislike that very much when it happens. There is no reason for judges to get huffy and puffy when counsel are all being professional and courteous. All a litigant wants is to be heard by someone who will listen, act fair, and possess a good grasp of the problem. I have had to reverse judges who got it wrong and who I still very much respect. I've had to reverse judges who were jerks. Demeanor is half the game from my perspective. I don't need a jerk stressing me out and trying to ruin my day.

  24. Dinner and a movie? How about baking and new music? Heard this a while back after seeing it posted here twice or so. Hauntingly beautiful voice, exceptionally clear recording and as close to good ol' Country that I own. Even a good copy of a Lou Reed classic! That's a half batch of cornbread with stew beef and cheese and salsa. Coated the beef with chili powder, garlic salt, cumin, cayenne pepper mixed the chunks of cheese with the extra stuff and it turned red when it popped up and melted. Dinner in a skillet!

  37. I will continue on with some amazing jazz fusion This album was originally released in 1967 and still has the ability to prick my ears up Quote from the net about this album and the performing artists This 1967 quartet session is quite notable in several respects. Although the Muse reissue makes Chick Corea the leader (and the then-unknown pianist is in fine form), it was actually drummer Pete La Roca's date, and he contributes seven now-forgotten but quite intriguing originals. But of greatest interest is the playing of tenor saxophonist John Gilmore, heard during one of his few excursions away from Sun Ra. Fine advanced hard bop. 38. Completed the rear panels today, complete with splitters. Just used some scrap material for the splitters & cut to size on the table saw. Also made a template for the veneer to go on the inside of the cabinets......at the bottom of the cabinet between the sides & the dog house. The template is sitting on the top of the cabs.... it fits really well. I removed the bottom of the cabinets ......placed the cardboard underneath & traced out the shape. It's going to be tricky to adhere this, as the contact cement only gives you one go.

  43. I got a pair of the Forte III in March. Good timing before the extended home-bound work. I can't really imagine what they would do upgrade the speaker. They really sound wonderful to me. I use them for 2 channel stereo hooked up to some late 80's Yamaha gear. I also have some Gen 1 RF7s that I used for my surround sound setup. My only complaint with the Forte is the wood veneer (walnut on mine) is really delicate. I have a couple tiny scratches from taking the speaker grills off while gently brushing my fingernails against the fronts. Maybe I should have got black....perhaps the painted finish is a bit more durable...but I really like the natural walnut look. I listen to a lot of classic rock. Steely Dan, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac really sound wonderful to me. I haven't really tried much hard rock....since I tend to have them on to relax. My amp is only 125 watts (Yamaha M-45). The sweet spot for me is around 35-50 percent output (according to the power level display). A little volume really gets them to sing and you can hear more of the music details better. I will be interested to see what "improvements" Klipsch decides to make to these in the future. I'm pretty happy. They are just the right size to fit into a medium and smaller rooms and have plenty of output. They are also easy to move due to the modest weight (around 70 lbs) compared to the bigger heritage models. I would love the Cornwall or LaScalla but between the price, weight, and size....it's just not too practical for me. They have me laying on my couch and just "listening" to music again.....without other activities and distractions. Great way to relax and forget about the hustle and bustle of life.
