  8. Hello All I just bought a pair of 1974 vintage Klipschorns (KB-WO) essentially sight unseen (just a couple of basic photos on Facebook marketplace). When I picked them up this week, I was astounded at the condition. I still need to clean them up, condition the wood, get the light dust out of the backs, etc., but these are almost a time capsule. There is hardly a mark on them, the original AA networks are untouched, the round-magnet k-77's are in place, as are the spring-connector k-55's, none of the screws anywhere have marks on them, the veneer is so perfect it looks like laminate, the screen on the backs is intact, the bronze cloth is just perfect, and there are no modifications anywhere. They will clean up beautifully, and already look like fine furniture. Truly a product of Klipsch at it's finest. Here's my problem: I was thinking before I bought them that I could do this, do that, etc. New networks, Volti midrange horns with Beyma tweeters, etc. etc. But now I don't think I could bring myself to do anything beyond bringing them back to up to original specs. I'd almost feel as though I would be ruining them by making any changes. In automotive parlance, "they are only original once". All of a sudden, I feel like one of those Porsche guys who deduct 10 points at the concours because a cad-plated screw was replaced by stainless. It's not so much a matter of value, since these will not be sold until I am in an urn somewhere, but I suddenly feel almost like a steward or caretaker. I mean, how many more like this do you think are out there? There can't be many. They are a piece of history, and I think with some sensible and unseen upgrades (better connectors and wiring, diaphragms, etc.) they will still perform at a very high level. Certainly not on par with a new AK6, but still not bad. I'd put the upgrade money into tube gear to drive them (McIntosh or Primaluna), and I think the result would be outstanding; perhaps not the 99.999% sonic perfection that everyone tries vainly to achieve, but maybe 99%, which is plenty good enough for me. What say you? Thanks, Greg

  15. @Tarheel sounds like me trying to figure my LS. Was noticing how much the sound changes in relation to ear height. The squawker needs to be at ear level - yeah.. I know that is what "the book" sez, too. that translates into raising them 6- 8in. I can do it by myself, if I'm a little careful. Don't go thinking I'm going to lift them... not all at one time. I can lift one side.... that's all I need. Shove a 2X4 under the side that is up , then do the same on the other side.... back and forth

  17. Does anyone recognize a pattern? I think we should just categorize this thread as, "Discussion #2," and rather than hash it out in long form every 2-4 weeks, somebody could just post a thread titled, "Discussion #2." We'd all know in advance where it was headed, so it could be closed before the first reply, and nobody would miss anything.

  23. Rut roh... I'm having a vision of a lil girlie girl walking in and doing some MAJOR Christmas work. Riiiiiiip, clothes, don't want that and over her shoulder, then on to the next, riiiiiip toys, cool, a bit of play time then w/a lil coaxing onto her next riiiiip, clothes! Over her shoulder into the pile that's now beginning behind her. In all, she'll be ready so have that camera at the ready! Should be a hoot since I know you'll have her favorite record spinning. Have fun! Pictures or it didn't happen! 😂

  25. I can almost smell that @MicroMara! Took me a while yesterday but I found the source of the hot wire odor. A TrippLite ISOBAR4ULTRA that I have four of for important stuff like the coffee pot, or the phone charger, and tv & roku. Got replacement stuff coming in, it was ebay this time that was the bargain for the appliances. Although I won't replace the wave, it's not mine. Power company and the isp did their jobs and rectified the issue and replaced gear too. Filled out the form at TrippLite this morning, geeze those things are $70 now. They're worth it, but I'm glad I don't have to buy that too!

  29. Let's see how this works out. Yesterday I pulled the speakers out into the room further so they rested on the area rug instead of hardwood. A bit closer together too. Warmed up the tubes and put a well recorded Norah Jones CD. Sounded darn good! So putting my giant size brain to work I deduced that I needed a larger rug. Got on line and ordered a 10'x13' for my smallish music room (14.2'X13.1'). So now I'll have to hire some strong backs to lift the stereo cabinet and slide the rug under it. The rug and drapes are my only concession to room treatments.

  39. Regulars 1.4k Location: O-H Posted just now Threw on the new Areosmith from RSD and yup I'm thinkin the rumor was true. First side sucks mainly the pressing. Clicks n Pops right from the get go. Side two winding down so have to get a shot so ya know before you might buy it! Nuttin worse than unzipping one to have it skip so there's that. Dream On sounds stellar on side 2 though! Now what to play next??? Quote "We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out." - Decca Recording Company, rejecting the Beatles, 1962 Dave1291 Regulars 1.4k Location: O-H Posted just now What's next??? He's shakin his head and prolly thinkin it's Jam night, which we all know is Friday or Saturday. Right? haahaha Buckle up I'm gonna get him yet! 😂 😎 Yes, I'm THAT EVIL! GREAT album and yup another double thumbs up!

  42. I'm not BUYING anything! Already have that TD-160 that I had gone over. It's done soooo Linn to the butcher block table and the Thorens on the sound organisation wall rack. IF you recall, Mr THREE turntable arms, I mentioned I'd never be down because of something gong down again. The TD-160 will look better sitting there w/the dust cove than sitting it it's card board box upstairs! I'd hurt myself w/that thing!
