  2. The covers condition matches the albums title - battered, but the black is ok. The cover-artist obviously knew a thing or two about how shot-guns work... https://www.discogs.com/release/1654775-Ted-Nugent-Weekend-Warriors

  3. Had no furniture in new apartment so after the semi lotus position for awhile got a blow up chair. It converted into a floor mattress overnight when the air leaked out...no sharp objects warning. Had I known, would have gotten a d🦉oll instead...

  4. Thanks henry4841 and Shakeydeal, much appreciated! Hey, I'm a firm believer in whatever works for the individual. That's why there's SET amps, Push Pull amps, SS SE and PP, and class D, T, AB, etc. Same with why there's Harleys, Triumphs, Hondas, Kawasakis, and dozens of other brands of bikes. If one was "perfect", we'd all ride that one, but that's not the case as it's all subjective. Back when I was mostly building speakers in the late 90's my "Go to" was a QSC MX1500A which produced 500 watts RMS per channel @ 4 ohms, or 750 WPC @ 2 ohms. I would often drive my speakers until the clipping lights flickered, or sometimes stayed a steady red on the QSC amp- and that made me happy. Eventually I built a tube preamp and connected that to the frontend of the QSC and I thought that was "IT"- nothing could sound better. Well, it took quite a bit of the digital "edge" off of the leading hips of the notes and softened up a screaming singer (did I mention I listened to mostly metal and jam-band rock?). I was in the camp that tubes were my grandfather's tech and they were over priced and produced high distortion because I only READ about them and thought folks were crazy to buy a tube amp. Flash forward and there aren't many SS amps I can stand listening to, and yes my hearing is just fine. It's just a different presentation that satisfies me to where I don't need to listen at 105+ db unless I want to crank one song. Headroom is good too, but I honestly rarely need more than my 300B SET for my 97 db efficient speakers. When I do, I pop in my EL34 based Push Pull amplifier. Strangely enough, I had an SPL solid state 225 wpc here in house for a spell as I needed to tweak the balanced outs of my ML XL line-stage, and I was amazed how little power it seemed to have- clip lights were coming on, bass was decent- but didn't blow me away. Then I swapped in my Super 211 SET which produces around 30 watts per channel and the speakers suddenly sounded larger, more realistic and the soundstage opened up beyond the confines of my room. I didn't take my own word for it either, I had several other "untrained" music lovers come check it out. Each person thought the 211 SET had more power than the SPL amplifier. Why is this? I don't know for sure....there's lots of theory and papers on the subject, but they're all conjecture. All I can tell is sometimes there's more to a watt than a simple measure of power. Take that with a grain of salt too, but it's the best description I've got. Aric

  6. Thanks all, I am in Detroit area of Michigan, However I have found some in Indiana. Well, I found regular cabs without the sides and top, so basically it was the bottom cab without sides and just needed to add them, the front high section plate was there too, but loose and wasn't going to use it. They were rough looking, I am complete with the sanding and filling and they looking really good. I have my veneer to do just the front V this coming week and then I will put a Duratex finish on the rest. The tops I stripped as well and doing some filling in on those today. When complete I will post some pics.

  7. Usually not my kind of music, but other people wanted to feed this one to the trash. You wouldn´t expect it by looking at the cover, but it´s actually well preserved and quiet. https://www.discogs.com/release/8019254-Everly-Brothers-End-Of-An-Era

  9. JaJa , the electrical airbed that I use is quite comfortable and I got so much furniture from my older apartments stored in the basement form my house that made everything so easy. I took all that stuff and moved ...😂. The living room is closed to be finished after 5 days, the audio gear sounds dreamlike in the smaller listening room , never ever expected that. As I said ....it was the right decision, even I have to work 18 hours a day.

  10. sold I have a pair of volti fc260 horns. In really good condition other than a few minor marks. These can be used with 1” or 2” drivers. You can thread a k55v/k55m right on or 4 bolt 2” driver. I’ve used both with great results, these are very, very good. Much better than k400. I played around with them sitting atop a set of Cornwalls which was great. After everything was said and done I ended up with a pair of fastlane diy horns. To me these sound just as good, but they would never fit in the stock Cornwall cabinet. I’ll add the link to Volti’s website for the details. I would prefer to meet up, but shipping is a possibility. They don’t weigh a lot but are large so I would expect shipping to be kinda pricey. Located in Chattanooga Tennessee. $400obo cash, ppff, venmo non-1099/fee Fc260 Horns - Klipsch Upgrades by Volti Audio

  11. Just a short one. I stayed in El Paso 2000/ 2001 for training at the German (Air Defense) Rocket School (RakSLW). In December 2000 my sister came over to visit, and together we drove from Texas to San Francisco. We passed through New Mexico, Nevada and California. Las Vegas was dull somehow, never liked that place much, have been there twice. But our last stop, before getting to SF, was in a little town in northern CA, called Bishop. We always say that we want to visit there again some day. Stayed in SF for three days, the usual things, Alcatraz, China Town, Goden Gate and Fisherman´s Warf. SF was nice, back then, don´t know about today. We drove highway 101 on the way back, that was great! Just passed through L.A. and then back on I 10 to El Paso. All in all great trip. Death Valley is really that - DEAD, never been to place that really is quiet, so much so you hear your blood rushing through your ears...

  14. How are 8 300B tubes giving you 1.5 watts per channel unless this is some very abstract biasing scheme? A 300B tube, driven properly with peaks entering into A1 can easily provide 10 watts with excellent sound quality, not 5 watts. To remain linear, the 300B should be driven with a low impedance driver and at least 350 plates volts, or higher if cathode biased. With a 35 watt plate dissipation, 7 watts is the minimum figure each should give with normal biasing. Would you mind sharing how the 8 300Bs are producing such low power? I’m intrigued and confused. 15. You see Ivan ...I do remember that your wife loves Music and she´s a musician as well . The wife Ihad is the total opposit from your´s . She was totally jealous about my technical and musical passion and she hated my seperate Listening room. Anytime when I had fun she did her best to destroy that passion . How long can a music lover endure that ? I did for many years , maybe a couple of years too long. I´m 61 now , the last five years she dindn´t gave up destroying my technical and musical interests as well my participation in different forums around the globe. However, of course this wasn´t the only reason why I left my house, there were to much other problems with her . All together made me leave the house and the wife. And I can tell you ..I moved into the new apartment only 5 days ago, have work without end but I'm doing great. Should my lawyer now take care of the rest of the story. Life is too short to continue to deal with a poor episode of life, I look ahead.

  18. working hard to get the new listening room ready, half space and not so high like the old one , the first tries came up with surprising good audible results, I didn´t expected that . Still a lot of work to do in the new listening room as well as the other rooms. Just the SS & SACD are in operation, all other gear isn´t connected yet, may this coming weekend , first pic to show how I proceed in this project. Suprised that the RF7 Evo´s playing so fantastique even in a smaller listening room. Pic isn´t that good 😐

  23. As was stated above by DE, speaker impedance is not an issue for SETs. If you use an opt tap corresponding to the lowest impedance of the speaker, distortion will decrease as the impedance rises. I believe Edcor’s bandwidth ratings are at 1 watt whereas Hammond’s are at full rated power. If used well below that, the Hammonds are capable of amazing bandwidth. 24. The more I hear about what Subfest '23 is going to be the more I can't wait. Special guests, presentations, partying and playing your music at the Visitor's Center, Klipsch lab listening sessions, All the tech on the new DSP / powered Heritage subs.........a huge opportunity to learn what's the best way to bring big bottom end to all your Heritage models. If you are even considering attending you'd best sign up soon. This will definitely eclipse past Jubfests..........and the Heritage Jubilees will be there as well to play your music on.

  25. Don't transients live under bridges and overpasses? I can understand wanting to entertain transients with your music, but does it require 200 watts? I'm sure that all the transients in my neighborhood could hear my system if I put my KHorns on the back porch powered by my Cary 300b amps. Just sayin'

  26. What we have here is someone who cherishes volume over quality, but is foolish enough to not understand he can have both with a fraction of the power. You are right, no point in banging your head against the wall with that sort.

  28. JB, still still amazes me. And his current band is so good.

  29. Well.... neither really. As I think you now know, there is the top half that's missing in the picture. Be that as it may, these are more of a 'mid-bass' unit than subwoofer. Cool thing with them, once setup nicely, they can/will reach out and viscerally punch you in the chest BUT they won't shake the foundation of your home as they won't go that low. Here's an idea for you. If you can swing this to happen, it will walk all over the sound you'd get taking them back to stock with the top half sitting on them.

  38. at heart, i am really simple minded (just ask my wife). one day i was bass fishing and I wondered: you have a sealed enclosure, you get a certain bass response. put a horn in front of that and you should get that curve raised up in spl. you have a vented system with more output within a certain cutoff. take that system and put a horn in front of it. i know that that is simplistic and it turns out that there is balancing of parameters going on but it does work. as in nature, the two systems blend the resultant parameters and i got an unexpected result; what i thought i should get. roy

  39. have they cut some new material or are they just going on tour together? among the living is my favorite.
    1 point
  40. i must say that i am little confused with some of the responses. that one graph contains quite a bit of information. for one, this should show on a blueberry to blueberry (i grow blueberries ) comparison the khorn to the jub in a corner and shooting into an anechoic chamber. this totally removes any room aberrations or nulls or whatever and tells you what the speaker can do. after all, we cannot guess what room the speaker will eventually be in and we cannot adjust the frequency response of a speaker for a room; we can just adjust and design around that which we can control. and if you think that you can't measure or feel 20 Hz in a room, that what is that that is rattling my gut in my son's truck (s10 reg cab); one clue; it's not the exhaust. in my opinion, and it's only my opinion, certain speaker parameters that are related to sound quality can only be measured independent of the room; back to my blueberries. roy

  42. Along with the rubber throat, I'd really like to hear more about that pretty wooden horn. I'm going to try my hand at building a pair, if I can get the right "formula". Tony actually not much to the wooden horn. just a plain, ole, modified tractrix horn with collapsing verticals. the trick there was to get it made out of wood. we tried 4 vendors and we got the same old story; samples and first quote were great; first small production horns were not good but at least they were expensive. roy
    1 point
  43. let's see. this how paul explained it to me; because the velocity of air particles are greater at low frequencies (assuming constant voltage), you can "load" the low freqs to the point that this bandwidth becomes the first to create distortion at high spls. so this fast flare rate leading to a much larger area, becomes the "throat" for the horn at low freqs. this swapping of throats for the horn makes it flexible (or rubbery) in the two distinct bandwidths created by doing this. or something like that. actually, he explained it better than this but i get a case of "hornitisiforgetious" every once in awhile. roy

  44. as the good doctor has said, there is a smaller horn that can be mated to the jub lf and in fact, i demonstrated that last year with active stuff. if enough people are interested, i can try to whip up a passive for a cinema jub, 510 horn and 69 driver. maybe the smaller horn can kill some of the horn envy going on! just as an fyi, Paul and i played with this horn as an alternative to the wood horn.

  46. I know that we take special orders. A form get passed around, it is determined if the plant can do the request and then a cost is calculated. Birch raw shouldn't be a big deal and substituting the front panel for a fancy veneered panel shouldn't be a problem. Boy I can already hear the plant guys cussing me out....
