  1. I worked for 5 years as a manufacturing engineer supporting a wire harness and electrical bench shop for a military fly-by-wire aircraft. Thousands of critical wire terminations were crimped. The crimpers were similar to the example shown by Customsteve01. Four precision indentors deform the barrel of the contact to create a highly reliable crimp. We used to calibrate the crimpers every 26 weeks (13 weeks for automated equipment). The calibration was essentially a mechanical pull test. On a properly crimped terminal, the conductors will break before the crimp lets go. Good crimps are hard to beat. I went through the hands-on certification training for crimping and soldering (probably 2 weeks x 8 hours of training). I have not worked in that industry for over 16 years, but today when I terminate a wire, I crimp AND I solder (just in case!).

  3. Those would match the cabinets in my bathroom perfectly! The room is a little small for K-horns, however.

As I understand it, the top baffle board can be removed to make that an easy job. Try and Altec 511b or my Trachorn. You will not regret it! You can esily back down if you don't like it too. Al K. ---------------- I heard the ALK Trachorns in Khorns last weekend. There is no doubt that these are a significant improvement over the 401 squawkers.
  5. I can think of three basic types of strippers: 1) http://www.kleanstrip.com/woodworkstripper.htm 2) http://www.idealindustries.com/ht/WireStrippers.nsf 3) Oops, I guess I should not provide a link for this type I have personally used types 1 and 2 with great success.
  6. When I crank up the volume, they sound good everywhere in the house . But seriously, mine are (for now) on a 12 ft wall and I still get decent soundstage and imaging 12 ft back, although 8 ft is better.
  7. I upgraded from KG4s to Cornwalls several years ago. The day I brought them home, I stayed up nearly all night - on a work night - listening (it was like a religious experience!). So, I would highly recommend Cornwalls for your upgrade. Also, keep the KG4s for another room (if you have the room and a second amp or receiver), but I cannot recommend the KG4s as rear surrounds with Cornwalls in front. It is not terrible, but I was not really satisfied until I replaced them with Heresys for the rears.
  8. Joe, that is excellent news, the best news that I have heard in a long time.
  9. This was yesterday. "Warner Music Group Corp. (NYSE-Listed WMG) celebrates its initial public offering on the NYSE. In honor of the occasion, Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer rings The Opening BellSM accompanied by legendary guitarist Jimmy Page."
  10. Michael, way cool! And that 730 appears to be a beauty.

  12. My brother-in-law bought a pair of 901s in the late '80s. I liked my KG4s better.
  13. Sputnik, you forgot about my favorite club, the Mashie Niblick (I think equivalent to a 7 iron) . I used to play 3 times a week for several years. Then I got married (17 years ago) and it went down to twice a week. Then about 9 years ago I went into an MBA program and it drpped to twice a year and I never got back to playing regularly. In my bag are -very dusty- Hogan Edge irons (1985), and Wilson Killer Whale 1,3,& 5 metal woods (1995). I also have some old 7 wood that used get me out of trouble often. My putter is a no-name thing that I have had for over 25 years. I tried to replace it with Ping and other premium brands, but it would always end up back in my bag because it just felt better.
  14. Gil is correct about the "A" weighting for industrial noise measurement. The OSHA standards that I have seen are based on dBA. For example 90 dBA continuous for an 8-hour day. The "C" wieghting should be more applicable for music applications.
  15. Bought at the right price, you cannot go wrong with Heresys. If you don't like them you will be able to sell them because many people like them. I'm using a pair of Heresys for my HT rear surrounds (Cornwalls in front) and they are perfect for that job.
  16. Although this is an interesting topic, reading this thread is really making me tired! I think I'll turn off the computer and pick out a good LP to listen to!
  17. A Model H is on display at Marvin Electronics in Fort Worth. They used to be a Klipsch dealer. It is not for sale, but part of a display of vintage audio equipment. The one on eBay looks nice. It would make a nice HT center for someone with Heritage mains.

I remember them from South Texas, you could even get Jalepeno's with your yard bird. ---------------- They are still here, still greasy, and you can still get a jap with your "meal". I usually get the Number 7.
  19. Happy B-day! 45 sounds old, but you will get used to it . Tomorrow, I'll fire up my 299D and drink a six pack in your honor.

  21. In the late '90s I worked on a project in Nuevo Laredo for a couple of years. There was an El Pollo Loco near the plant, so guess what was for lunch almost every day. The plant had a cafeteria with food service, but none of the project engineers would eat there. About once a month the entire plant (about 600 employees) would get sick from eating in the cafeteria
  22. "KFC SUCKS! El Pollo Loco ROCKS! Anyone who thinks otherwise is STUPID!" All right! Another classic 2-Channel war in the making!
  23. I took my kids to see this when it was in the theaters. My 4 year old fell asleep half way through, but my 7 year old loved it. I thought it was o.k., but I don't think I will buy the DVD (I would rent it however).
  24. You must take Deep Purple's Machine Head. "Space Truckin'" would be a great galactic cruising tune.
  25. "Hartsfields can be compared to "blue chip" investments. I can understand the reluctance of an owner to give demos to every curious window shopper, they're very rare." I didn't exactly fit into the "every curious window shopper" category since I did purchase a vintage integrated tube amp from the guy. BTW, the Hartsfields were not for sale.
