  1. a little bit of Queen: Beezlebub has a deviled egg inside for me
  2. Saving it for next year when they explain it was just an advance on next years income tax refund.
  3. very nice unit! I'm in the same boat as Schu, way too many lp's!(But I keep buying more!)
  4. I have left the house 1 time in the last month. I don't think it's going to do any good if my wife goes shopping and comes home with whatever is lurking out there. Luckily, we have no confirmed cases in our county. BTW, I consider it a privilege to stay home.
  5. It was about 10 years ago when I was experimenting with bi-amping, and I didn't have any means for testing at that time. I have recently purchased a laptop and a Umike, but I need someone like you to help me figure out how to use it properly. I'm still not interested in bi-amping, but I am building my own horns, and would like to be able to compare them and see the different patterns with different sizes. As far as the configuration of the KHorns: bass bins are enclosed, using Crites cast woofers. Midrange is a 210hz tractrix wooden horn with a 2' throat. Currently using BMS 4592 mid drivers. Tweeter is a wood tractrix horn with a 1 inch throat. Driver is a Selenium D220ti. Crossovers are either DeanG universal type with 400/6000 crossover points, or my own build universal type with 400/4500 crossover points.
  6. Mine is in the basement also, but my system is upstairs. I'll set the cleaner for 15 minutes, go upstairs and listen to a side of an lp, go back downstairs and turn the fan on to dry them for another side of an album. Mine holds 4 lp's, which I think is just right, until I buy a bunch like I just did. I'll have to clean 75 lp's now @ 4 at a time!
  7. they are all over ebay and Amazon. Most are made by the same manufacturer.

    AGM batteries?

I have a battery story--I have 3 Corvettes that hardly get driven. Several years back I purchased expensive Optima gel batteries for all 3 because of the claim that they will hold a charge longer. I always use battery tender trickle chargers to keep the batteries fully charged. I went to use one car after it was sitting for 6 months or so, and the battery was dead. I tried charging with different chargers to no avail. The batteries have a 5 year warranty, so I took it back to the store where I purchased it. The guy behind the counter told me that it was my fault because I needed a special charger for the battery ($200.00). I told him I had purchased 3 batteries at the same time, and the other 2 were just fine. He continued to argue with me that you cannot possibly charge that type of battery with conventional means. So I said, are you sure? Absolutely, he said. So I asked him what kind of special charging system do you install in the cars you install these batteries in? I don't understand, he says. Well, all cars have the same alternators that are used to charge standard batteries, so why don't I need a special charger in my car for this battery? I got my new battery and its been holding a charge(along with the other 2) for 8 years using the battery tender trickle chargers.
  9. The only thing stock on my K-Horns is the veneer on the bass cabinet!

    What I Got Today!

You have too many cool things!
  11. Dave, if you continue to have problems, and think the crossovers are to blame, I've got a pair of DeanG crossovers I won't be using for a couple months that you could borrow. They crossover at 400/6000, and the mids are adjustable.
  12. If you like to complicate things and add more circuits to the signal path, then go for it. I've never heard an improvement when I tried bi-amping my K-Horns, but you may.
  13. I really don't think you are going to be happy with any turntable at that price point.
  14. Five to one, baby One in five No one here Gets out alive -Jim Morrison
  15. This should be moved to maybe 2 channel? I use an ultrasonic cleaner, probably the best way to clean records. I wouldn't recommend that particular one, because it only cleans one at a time. I would get one that cleans at least 4 at a time because it takes a while to clean and dry, approx. 1/2 hour, and the tank is big enough to hold at least 4 albums. You have to buy the ultrasonic tank separately, this is just the mechanism that holds and spins the record.
  16. I had my hearing tested a year ago, and it shows a pretty severe drop off over 10K. I have tinnitus so bad with constant ringing. The quieter it is, the louder the ringing. I said all that to say this-I still love my tube amps, and I swear I can still hear subtle differences in my system. I read somewhere that your brain will compensate a lot as far as what it hears. I don't know what is going on, but I'm not feeling that I'm missing enough sonically to throw in any towels yet. BTW, I'm 64
  17. Sticky Fingers has been in my rotation since it came out. Yeah, I'm that old.
  18. I haven't used EH 5U4GB's, only 5AR4/GZ34, and KT-88 power tubes. A 6% failure rate isn't anything to brag about.
  19. The better question might be: should you trust a $16.00 rectifier tube in an expensive amp? I've had no luck with EH tubes
  20. I've gotten Mullard 5ar4 and GZ-33 rectifier tubes for $100 each. I guess it pays to shop around.
  21. No fair, Claude lives closer. JK, I don't have a need for them anyway!
  22. I have found vintage rectifier tubes last longer than new production tubes. I prefer Mullard.
  23. I really don't think there is much difference, but I went from vintage GE 5 star 5751's to vintage Amperex 12ax7's, so there might be some difference. It's been about a year since I did the swap.
  24. I used 5751's instead of 12ax7's for years in my phono stage. A little less volume, but a lot quieter.
