  1. Klipsch HP-3. Sadly, out of production now. I love mine!
  2. Here is my A-S2200, CD-S2100 (w/DAC), and Schiit Lokius tone control unit. All use XLR connects. Speakers are mint Chorus II's.
  3. I have a A-S2200 integrated, so no experience with the 5000's. The upper end of Yamaha is Japanese high fidelity arguably at it's finest. Very happy with mine, and while it is not quite top of the line, it's close. The 5000's are not too common, as it's too expensive for some of us. But somebody out there must have them! Did you pull the trigger?
  4. Happy Yamaha A-S2200 owner here! This is a high end Japanese unit that never fails to satisfy my hi-fi jones. Mine replaced a vintage Marantz 2245. It is paired with mint Chorus IIs. XLR connects is a nice feature. Highly recommended...and they come in silver!
  5. "Theme For A Movie That Never Happened" by Eric Clapton. Instrumental acoustic guitar with an orchestra behind him.
  6. No experience with Bryston. I have had the A-S2200 (90 wpc)for several years. No issues. I rarely can get it up 1/3 power. Very clean, solid and punchy bass, and I hear nuances I never did with my old Marantz. XLR connects. It has a lot of positive reviews. I added a Schiit Lokius tone control unit for further enhancement. With VU meters and silver...it's a winner!
  7. Kevin, I have a great CD player, the Yamaha CD-S2100. It has an internal DAC, plus XLR connects, comes in silver or black. It is upper level-ish Japanese high fidelity. I love mine...in silver of course. My friend has a Schiit Freya+ tube preamp, it punches way above it's price point. It also has XLR connects and comes in silver or black. USA made. I also have 2 Schiit Modius tone control units, also have XLRs. it is the icing on my hi-fi and head-fi systems. Just a friendly recommendation.
  8. Curious if this will be a 2 channel or home theatre system? Also what is your budget for the preamp and cd player?
  9. DAC - Yamaha CD-S2100 (internal) Amp - Yamaha A-S2200 integrated. + Schiit Modius tone controls Speakers - Chorus II. Head-Fi system: Schiit Bifrost 2 DAC Schiit Modius tone controls Schiit Jotunheim headphone amp ifi Zen Stream Klipsch HP-3 headphones... Streaming Tidal...sounds fantastic!
  10. Just got a new Camaro LT1! It absolutely adds the excitement factor to the driving experience. Love it!
  11. Fellow Chorus II fella here. Pushing 'em with a Yamaha A-S2200 integrated @ 90 WPC. I added a Schiit Lokius Tone Control unit, which I can dial in more clean bass with, and of course more or less mids and highs. I don't feel the need for a sub. I rarely can turn the volume up to even 1/3. The listening experience is fantastic! Very cllean power with presence and detail. Just my experience with what I have.
  12. From a time when it was important, if you were a music lover, to have quality hi-fi. But, who was Mr Benson?
  13. So you sent back the Model 30 and got a cheerful, fast refund?
  14. I haven't heard the Forte IV, but have played Forte Is side by side with Chorus IIs. While the Chorus has an overall richer, bigger, fuller sound, the Forte digs deeper on the low end.
  15. Maybe try a circuit tester to see if your place is wired correctly?
  16. Thanks! It does sound fantastic to me. I am using 4 pucks, one near each corner. And these are made in the USA pucks, not some Pacific Rim copy! Joking aside, the Lokius tone control really is the icing on the cake.
  17. Well, I got the Schiit stack up on hockey pucks yesterday. It really enhanced the low end. optimizing punch and definition. 👊 I think the mids are a bit more defined too. Still enjoying with my HP-3s. I also put the Lokius tone control on the bottom, as it is recommended to give it some distance from any nearby transformer...in the Jotunheim. So am I the only one here with a desktop head-fi system??
  18. Agreed Tidal does not have everything. Perhaps they feel they are offering the "best" versions, vs the old recordings. Overall, I am very pleased with Tidal, especially the ability to discover new music. Guess it's a like it or lump it situation.
  19. I have an upper level Yamaha integrated, the A-S2200 paired with Chorus IIs (bigger, older sibling to the Heresy). I am really pleased with the result, have no plans on going tube. I have plenty of tube guitar amps to satisfy my tube jones, and replacing bad tubes is costly, and a drag when you get a failure during a live performance. Not saying my solid state Yamaha is superior to tubes, it is just a different path that can yield superb results to those of us who choose to go this direction. But yes, an amp upgrade will surely yield a superior result with the H4s compared to what you currently have.
  20. I got it up and running after some initial issues pairing the ipad with the streamer. This is a great alternative to my main system and the ability to achieve an audiophile headphone experience is a real pleasure. Oh yeah, I sprung for the Lokius 6-band tone control too. Balanced XLR connects throughout.
