Let's get Chad to set up a poll and elect a screening committee. Once established, the committee could vote on each prospect. Best of luck!! Chuck

My Thoughts on Today's Visit to Magnolia / Best Buy in Tampa
ChuckAb3 replied to Youthman's topic in Home Theater
I certainly would like to see Klipsch offered in that setting as opposed to the usual Best Buy set up. That always made me cringe. (These pics sorta remind me of the old Ultimate Electronics stores but with better stuff). -
So whats with this bi-wiring business anyway?
ChuckAb3 replied to Rick J B's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
While I'm no expert on the subject, this seems to be the consensus of opinion that I've seen over a fairly long period of time. -
I go on buying kicks from time to time and that includes both vinyl and cd's. I think there's merit and advantages to both formats and, for me, the debate is rather pointless. I do have a fairly extensive vinyl collection along with a very good and newer turntable. Getting ready to upgrade the cartridge! The point in my opinion is to enjoy the music.

Badly beat up LaScala restoration completed
ChuckAb3 replied to mustang guy's topic in Technical/Restorations
Yes. Bondo is a great filler for speakers. It doesn't shrink, adheres well, will sand perfectly flat and takes primer and paint well. When you fill holes or corners with MDF you have to be careful as the bondo is harder than the MDF and will sand at a different rate. Basically, using the same amount of effort when sanding the bondo will remove more of the surrounding MDF than the bondo if you don't pay attention. Thanks!! -

Great work. Would the same approach work on MDF? -
In Remembrance of the Victims and Victims Families of 9/11

For every one of the people killed or injured, many, many more were deeply affected. My prayer is that they find peace. -
I'm not planning on any changes to the speaker lineup anytime soon, at least not to a non-Klipsch line, but if I was I'd be looking at Focal. Heard them at a local store not too long ago. Different from Klipsch to be sure, but very, very nice. The question might be how they would fare in a HT setting as opposed to 2 ch. Klipsch excels in that area imo. Personally, if my main complaint was the veneer on my Klipsch speakers, I think I'd save the bucks and either learn how or hire someone.

Since I have an all-KLF HT system, I'm always interested in the prices (even though I have no intention of selling mine). From what I've seen, the going price range is from about $600 to $900 in good condition. $750 would appear to be quite fair. I love the Heritage sound, so I have Cornwall III's in my 2 ch system and the KLF's for HT. Might consider running 2 systems, since KLF-30's are hard to beat (especially for the money) in HT. Best of luck.

Excellent unit(s) Agreed. I have the 7701 and love it. I think both units are processors and would require a separate power amp, but Marantz makes those too. I have the 5 ch. edition. The only drawback is cost.

Great pics. We spend a fair amount of time in the mountains since everything is not only spectacular but close. You can sometimes find deals on a website Vacation Rentals By Owner. And ... the rates are often better when you get away from the ski resorts off of I-70. Less traffic, too. Again, thanks for sharing.

Did you ever use a 4 track to 8 track adapter, just a capstan insert No but if I'd been aware of it, I would have. I had a Craig under the dash unit in my '67 Mustang.
-
If I didn't have a nice pair of CW's I'd be sorely tempted to make the trek to Omaha. Those are NICE.

Marvin Gaye's Heard it Through the Grapevine. Oh jeez, was that my 4 track?? (For all you youngins' out there).

Excellent work! Someone asked where to obtain pellets ... there's a bbq shop here in Denver metro called Ruff's. He stocks and probably ships many varieties of wood, including the pellets. With hickory, for example, he carries pellets, chips, small chunks, large chunks and logs. Same for other woods. He keeps a variety of smokers in stock along with accessories, etc., teaches bbq classes, etc. I haven't gone to a pellet smoker yet but you are seriously tempting me!!

My Parasound pre-amp. Just under a grand. It was part of a move to separates in the 2 ch system. Great product and certainly better than the integrated that I had.

Now the wife will really have a stroke!! Once you get 'em all up to snuff, line them up and compare. Let us know what you like best and why.

What speaker cable for Cornwall III ?
ChuckAb3 replied to MarioRuoppolo's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I want some of what Chuck has been smoking. Those CO folks have it soooo good... Well maybe I did buy off on some of the snake oil the marketers are pushing, and maybe the improvement was only in my imagination. I dunno. It ain't what I've been smoking at any rate 'cause I'm getting to be an old fart and way past that. I do believe that Dean's recommendation makes sense and will probably go in that direction next time. I appreciate the constructive suggestions. Thanks. -
What speaker cable for Cornwall III ?
ChuckAb3 replied to MarioRuoppolo's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
The guy I bought my CW III's from threw in some Audioquest Type 4 and it's a good match. Actually noticed an improvement over the Monster I'd been using. Blue Jeans cable in the HT (at least in the front speakers and IC's) was also a noticeable upgrade over the Monster I used to have. I'm not a big spender on cable, but some small upgrades have improved my systems. YMMV. -
Too many things to list or even think of .... Preservation Hall jazz Band, Doctor John's 'Gumbo', Pete Fountain, Emmylou Harris, Al Hirt, Sweet Emma, Eureka Brass Band. Many more.

Oh man, it had to be Capt. Kangaroo, Mickey Mouse Club, Cookie and the Captain and Wrangler's Club (local shows back in the day). Sesame Street, etc., came later and my kid loved those shows. I like Beeker's avitar too. Will have to get my own soon (when I figure out how to do it!).

The best amp for any speaker is what sounds good to you. Having said that, I am not a fan of any low or mid-level receiver for 2 ch systems. The tubes vs. SS debate is also a matter of individual taste. Personally, I like Marantz or Parasound with Heritage speakers, at least for the present. I have Parasound separates in my 2 ch system and am very pleased. I did hear some Prima Lunas recently and was fairly impressed, so I may have some tubes in my future.
