Dave, you understand!!! Funny. Laughable from a certain perspective. And (not "but") true: she is likely to care more about how much you "understand" her than how much you know--and how "right" you may be. But then, what the heck, is that not how we elect most of our "leaders"?

I can remember receiving the "adolescent eye-roll" as I term it when my then teenage daughter's music would frequently, if not invariably, devolve into repetitious "baby, baby" when the real attempt was to obscure the paucity of any more lyrics. Then, of course, in inevitable groaning and moaning, as if that added any substance or art. Just mindlessness and trash. I would get the "eye-roll" when I referred to the singer's being in need of something for such obvious stomach cramps and abdominal discomfort. A generous dose of laxative, perhaps . . . ?

^ Agree is DUMB. However, it has sooooooo much competition. I notice the same "dumbing down" in the lyrics put on the screen at church. Oh, what I would give to see some capital letters, some commas, and an occasional period--you know, "like" at the end of a sentence. And I hesitate to think what I would give for a semi-colon once in a while, and words having, even occasionally, more than one or two syllables! Guess I'm dreaming. Or, I may only be reminiscing of a time long ago . . . .

Bill, Please help me understand. Specifically, are you saying that a 200w/ch amp is likely to help ANY signal quality, regardless of volume level? -40, -30, -20, for instance? Or, are you saying that AT REFERENCE LEVEL that the additional power will be a pronounced improvement (vs reference level without the amp)? I ask because I continue to try to understand what I am "missing". I have a large ft3 area, a 140wpc Yamaha driving supposedly "power hungry" speakers (5.1). I have read, and been advised numerous times by people whom I acknowledge are far more informed than I am, that I need a 200wpc amp at a minimum to get things to "open up", and to drive the speakers properly without distortion. And yet, when I had a good friend over (who knows his stuff) last week, we experimented a bit with the volume and settings. The AVR seemed to drive things superbly--at levels that would have had me doing my Manuel Noriega imitation, running out of the house, hands up, surrendering to the torture police, and thrilling the psyops warfare people. Understand that my ignorance may account, in part, for my bliss, but am willing to trade some of it for better "understanding". Thanks!

And attempting to impress us with their 3 decades of performance and their enormous size and all those darn woofers! /sarc Now a confession (overwhelming guilt, I suppose): I recently have been looking at Polk, and studying them. Actually bought some recently. And some Infinity speakers, too. What I cannot understand, based on the reading I have done, is why you would let them go for $1,050! Man, WHAT A STEAL! GLWS, as someone is going to be in audio heaven when he purchases them. May also be without a wife. My guess is that she will notice them in the room and figure out what all that racket was about in the 0230 darkness . . . .

Is really hard for me to accept their (RB-75) acclaim and dollar value relative to superb floor-standing speakers, for instance. YET, people vote with their $ and their feet. If enough informed consumers move toward the 75 and swear by it, there must be good reason. Enjoy, and I will continue to wonder and scratch my head . . . .

Likewise, Dave, I wonder why. Have not stayed current since my purchase of the Outlaw sub a year ago, but the Stonehenge seems like such a winner. Am sure Eric has good reasons. Just do not know what they may be.

Hey, Dave, Sounds like you are planning a bit of fun with your build. Question: what is the thinking behind no woofer larger than 7" in your center? I know you have good reasons and/or personal preferences. I think (trying to recall past comments) that you like the KV-4? the KLF-C7? Academy? They have 8" woofers . . . . Gosh, this hobby is fun, isn't it?

As I mentioned to him, it seems odd to me that an ethernet cable connection would cause a problem. Maybe if there were some kind of existing connection issue, or a component on the verge of physical/electronic failure, perhaps a slight physical movement or jolt was sufficient. But cause the problem . . . ?

The description I received: "we did something to the receiver because the sat cable setting is fried. i need another receiver. shame this one is a year old!" ^ Good idea about the Sony Home Theater Community.

Jim, the AVR is Sony model STR-1040, as I recall.

Guys, thanks for the insights, and, PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING. My "friend" is my brother-in-law, a good guy, and the last thing I would want to do is harm his apparatus. I will be sending these comments to him, so we can have a better understanding of what might have occurred, and what might "fix" it. Any thoughts on the Sony AVR? b-in-law is thinking he will have to replace it.
