  1. There is no reason for me to suggest anything after Scrappy has weighed in! The 18" with an Inuke will fit your budget nicely. Scrappy, is your MiniMarty build done yet? I always thought the best guy to consult when doing these projects is someone who had completed theirs a month or two before I begin. Where to buy the Mini Marty Flat pack As an alternative, I might suggest a flat pack from DIYsoundgroup. The CNC cut flatpacks are easy to assemble and the fit is precise. The guy (Erich) who sells this next flat pack (link below) is in the not-for-profit business, and the value from his products is beyond belief. http://www.diysoundgroup.com/ported-subwoofers-1/18stonehenge-substructure.html
  2. As a colonoscopy veteran, I really agree with all the other comments here. You are getting put under strong anesthesia, the same as if you had surgery. Driving yourself home after the procedure is NOT a safe option. There should be an ambulette service in your area, maybe they could take you home. For the record, the colonoscopy saved my life.
  3. For the preservation of peace in the neighborhood, I think you have no choice but to call the cops and report him for making too much noise.
  4. Catch of the day: I have a nice, new 135 wpc modern Onk AVR with all the bells and whistles, but I think the sound of that Sherwood receiver, #14 on my list, blows my Onk into the weeds. I would describe the sound as "open" and clean as a whistle. All those amps/receivers listed sound pretty good (and there is more to come, ie Adcom) but that Sherwood may be the sleeper best value in that group.
  5. I had technical difficulties in cut in paste, please ask any questions. Condition is usually an 7-8-or 9 out of 10. What I Got Today!

I take it you didn't need them... But what real man could pass up a bargain on compression drivers?
  8. List of Equipment with pics HERE I am selling about 50 pieces of vintage audio equipment for a buddy, and about 60 fifteen pairs of vintage Frazier speakers. Klipsch Forumites will get first choice before I open this up to national sales. I want this to be open ended for discussion, more than just simple questions on buying a piece, so please post as you want, there is no such thing as "thread crapping" on this thread. In brief, I have Marantz, Luxman, Fisher, Onkyo, Sherwood, Sansui, and Adcom electronic pieces, and more. This will be a separate thread later, but there is a speaker brand I am told is known to Klipsch people, called "Frazier." I have heard these and they sound incredible. I will have about 50 15 pairs of them available soon. Let me stop here, and link to the first Craigs List piece, two Luxman L-80 V integrated amps. Located in Morgantown, WV 26105. http://morgantown.craigslist.org/ele/4567069567.html
  9. I have Star Trek 2, Out of Darkness in BD. It is a good movie and you don't have to be a trekkie to enjoy it. The 7.1 sound is incredible, good dynamics, and I ran it on my 5.1 setup. My AVR sets the speakers to reference level at 82. If I ran it at 82 it would shatter my eardrums, 70 or so is a full sound level with dialog sounding at "normal" listening level. +++ I have watched Master and Commander. I found it a bit slow moving, lots of yap yap yap, not much action.
  10. I am also a CF-4 owner. I am very pleased with the sound of my lightly modded speakers, but like most guys if I can improve it, I will. Pictures (of both the old and new) would be helpful, as you are probably making THE go go thread for modding the CF-4's. If you could comment on how they sound to you stock, then how they sound with the mods would be very interesting to any CF owner. It looks like you are doing several mods at one time, so I know it will make it difficult to say which change made which difference in sound. I would also be interested in what the Crites mods are. I am not asking you to give away trade secrets, but if he is changing out caps, etc, it would good to know what changes work best. One thing I am wondering is how the Crites XO's will work with the new EV dh1506 CD's. One last thing, if you could post the costs of the mods, I would be interested. I got such a good deal on the stock units, I'm not sure if pouring big money into upgrades would be the best idea for me. It may be, I'm just not sure.
  11. If these are available for me and need picked up NOW, you can put them in your front yard my friend, and I'll come get them! +++ The fact that the ad is still up and nobody, including me, has gotten a return phone call, I'm guessing spam. I wasn't exactly moving furniture to begin with to see where I would put them.
  12. I just called and left a message. The phone rang, then eventually went to voice mail. Contact is by phone only. The ad looks too good to be true so I don't expect to get these. If I do, I'll pick them up tomorrow or Saturday when the Parts Express tent sale is on.
  13. That's a stock picture, Strickland, but I had the opposite reaction as you. I cringe at the thought of laying that $5,000 speaker down on its side!
  14. Do you have a picture of that ping pong ball mod, Moray? I have a hard time envisioning just what you have in mind. I'd like to try that with my CF-4's. +++ Minor thread drift: And since I have your attention Moray, what other mods do you suggest for the CF-4 and CF-3's? I've seen several of your suggestions, but I don't think I've seen a comprehensive compilation in one place.
  15. That is really odd, my 20 year-old CF-4 terminal snapped off the same way. All I tried to do was tighten it and it twisted right off. I don't know your P-39 setup, but my CF-4 was a five minute fix, a simple unscrew/bolt-in with the replacement which I got off Ebay for $10.
  16. Well, I never got a chance to audition the RW-12D in its OEM state. The amp was fried when I got it. From the reviews I have read, it is a quality replacement. Some have written that the Bash 300S is actually an upgrade from the stock amp. (snip) Unfortunately, I must be respectful of thy neighbors. Only pushing the sub to its limits a couple of very short times so far inhibits my critique. I can say this, I do like the RW-12 (no longer D). The 300 watt Bash amp also certainly keeps up with the 450 watt Paradigm. Not only keeps up but it digs deeper and has a more musical quality. There are so many variables to overcome/account for. However, the Bash 300S certainly gets my two thumbs up Thanks for the quick answer! Even though the name "Bash" is the same, I was wondering about build quality, size of the unit, just in general wondering if OEM was as robustly build as the retail version. I knew you couldn't A/B compare, but your description is good enough to know that it is a capable performer. I like mine as well. I do have the "D" version, but I set it once and forget it, so there is no practical use for the digital settings, for it the way I use it. I thought it was a feature I needed, but as with most "features" what you think you WANT is not always needed. And a last FYI for you, at the end of its production run last year, a LOT of RW-12 d's had the port come loose. If you hear some rattling inside the unit while playing loud, that can be easily fixed with some minor gluing. Just Google it, and you'll find more specific help on fixing it if you need it.
  17. I knew from your earlier post you had done that. How does the new Bash amp compare to the OEM Bash amp you took out? Was the new one more robust, larger cooling fins, etc.?
  18. LOL! I wouldn't over think this if I were you. He already knew you had a "phonograph", invented by Thomas Edison at the beginning of the last century. You immediately blew it by offering to play a quaint old fashioned "CD" (whatever that is) instead of some jammin' MP3's. He probably thought you were offering to play some nice baroque waltzes, or Gregorian chant music. You should have demonstrated how hip and informed you are with the modern music by telling him that your Palladium's could keep up with the "awesome" sound produced with Beats by Dr. Dre. Wow....
  19. I vote yes. You won't find better sound for $75 per speaker.
  20. Do you have a device hooked up to the radio, such as a phone using an 1/8 inch mini jack to connect to the radio? I have had experience with that in the past, and the imperfect connection will definitely cause that popping you describe. +++ Edit: I posted after Hover made his post regarding the dealer checking Service Bulletins. I would guess Mr. Hoover got it right, and your dealer was lazy in not even trying to fix this known problem.
  21. How did you enjoy this one? I'm shocked, shocked to find you would ask how he liked the greatest movie of all time.
  22. I find that various PLII, Neo, etc. options sound bad, not open, and not dynamic, while real 5.1, multi-channel SACD, all speaker stereo, and 2 channel stereo all sound good. Good call. My Onk 717 receiver also has a "Pure Audio" mode, which defeats all the codecs. Music sounds tremendous, and you really get that alive punchiness the listening modes seem to dumb down. I don't know if mine really "sounds bad" because with the codecs the sound is better distributed to the 5.1 speakers, ie sub. I don't get sub sound with Pure Audio.
  23. I found his descriptions and his various rants hilarious. What a great Ebay ad, certainly one of the best I've ever seen! Mr. Roberts should have posted his ad here first. I think he would have been preaching (selling) to the choir.
