  3. I believe last I heard it was about a 50 / 50 split on the titanium mid upgrade with people either loving them or hating them, not a lot of middle ground. The Titanium tweeters on the other hand seem to have almost a 100% approval rating with only a handful of people that don't like them out of presumably hundreds? thousands? The nice thing about the titanium "upgrades" is that they are relatively cheap, easy to install and are universal in a number of Klipsch models making them easy to sell in the used market if you decide they are not for you making them almost risk free. I say anyone on the fence should just try them and see.
  4. I would say no. I believe companies pay big money to get those certifications and if it was they would be marketing that quite clearly in the description.
  5. Congrats on the sale, I'm sure the buyer will be very happy with them. Now that they're gone, how did they compare to the new KI-396's if you don't mind sharing?
  6. Yes, not the best condition for sure but opening bid was only $200. Drivers alone are probably worth $400+ if all are working and in good shape.
  7. Seen them when they first came up for sale but wrong coast for me.
  8. It takes a pretty ridiculous, ear damaging level to run off my animals and I don't think its the sub that does it. I've had a cat scratch the dust cap on a passive before and a friend of mine had one of his forte II passives almost completely destroyed by one of his cats. Right now I don't let my cat in my room where the stereo is just to be safe.
  9. Totally agree with this. It would be way easier to just buy smaller speakers and be done with it. Maybe you could remove the glass doors on your cabinet and place the H-II's inside if they'll fit?
  10. The Palladium flagship speakers use Titanium tweeters and Aluminum mids and they are some of the smoothest speakers I've ever heard. The KI-396 Pro speaker that everyone raves about uses a 3" Titanium driver in its horn with no complaints of harshness. The Cornwall III, Heresy III and now, the all new forte III use Titanium tweeters and mids so there must be something good about them? It is entirely possible that anyone complaining about harshness due to these metallic drivers may have other issues going on either in their room or equipment matching / source material causing a bad experience.
  11. Yeah you have to be careful in the big box stores, they reel you in with sales and get you on the way out with all the add ons. A friend got a great deal on a big screen a few years ago but then paid $150 for a wall mount that you could buy online for $30 and $200 for a couple fancy HDMI cables that could have been bought for $10. When I pointed this out to him he just said he didn't care because he needed them now and he got a great deal on the TV which made up for it.
  12. Comparing my question to a fake moon landing conspiracy is just absurd. I understand now that the Chief does not "owe me anything" as if that were ever implied by me but whatever. I have been put in my place and will no longer ask a question or ask for clarification on anything he says. What a great day to be a Klipsch member.
  13. The phenolic mids that Crites offers are not meant to be an upgrade but simply a factory replacement. The Titanium Mids on the other hand get mixed reviews from what I understand and from what I've heard its about a 50 / 50 split on whether they are deemed an improvement or not. The people that like them really like them and those that don't, don't. I have tried them in my Chorus II's and liked them at lower volumes but thought they got too hot at higher listening levels and eventually removed them. Admittedly, it was only at really high levels of output that did not sound good to me so if you listen at lower levels most of the time you may end up liking them. Also, the forte has a bit more laid back mid presentation than the Chorus so I suspect the TI mids may actually be better suited for your application.
  14. Based on your budget, prices and equipment choices listed I'd go with the Denon 1300 and RB-61's and just plan on adding the RC-62 next when money allows. One could argue though that in your situation a subwoofer might come before a center speaker as long as your mains are positioned to provide a good phantom center. I would think that you would want to get the best of what you can so that you only have to buy things once and not lose precious funds upgrading down the road. My $.02 anyway.
  15. Glad you got it fixed but honestly, that sub is getting a little long in the tooth. I really like the RSW / RT line of Klipsch subs, they're older models as well but probably but close to 10 years newer than what you have and there is service available for the amplifiers should the need arise. A cheaper way to fix the sub you have would be to replace the amp with a BASH 300 if you're a DIY'er at all. Here's an RSW-10 on eBay, I think his price is too high though. A good deal for one of these is around $300 but this is probably the best sub I've ever heard for music: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Subwoofer-Rsw10-Black-120V-/302185260564?hash=item465ba52614:g:gLAAAOSwopRYaskm

    Kickin' Back

Yep, got 3.5 inches here this morning and its snowing right now, love it!
  17. Yes, the titanium tweeters are a very nice upgrade. Here's a link to purchase the TI mids if interested: http://www.simplyspeakers.com/klipsch-replacement-speaker-diaphragm-127122.html
  18. You totally missed my point, I'm not asking anything about the new speaker that does not have the spec's released yet, just a little clarity on the conversation above. It was inferred that the previous method of frequency response testing that was done years ago on the forte II (and presumably all of the speakers at that time) was somehow inferior to testing practices of today.
  19. Here's a play by play of what was said: So you didn't say it directly but the insinuation is there or, you really were making it up and the spec's are correct?
  20. I thought my question was quite reasonable considering the Chief has gone on record to say that the published spec's of one speaker model (forte II) are incorrect due to improper measuring at the time, wouldn't it be safe to assume that would be true of other models as well?
  21. So was it just the forte II that was not measured correctly or is it safe to say that all printed spec's before a certain date are not to be believed? You say you got better at testing, what does that even mean? Equipment changes?
  22. This is a set of Tractrix 701 horns that will drop into the original forte, H-II and H-III cabinets which would allow you to use a 55 mid driver. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-KP-250-II-Midrange-Units-with-Matching-Horns-Model-K128014-Excellent-/282349157448?hash=item41bd523c48:g:r3UAAOSwnHZYfzav
  23. I have installed these in the Chorus II and the cabinets need slight modification for them to fit. The horn height / depth however you look at it is smaller than stock so it won't fit through the factory cut-out without some light filing / sanding. It doesn't take much to get them through but I could not get them in without shaving the inside of the opening a little. Not sure if this is a problem with the forte or KLF as they have a thinner motor board and I have not tried.
  24. Pair of these on eBay for a reasonable price. The tweeter magnet is the same size as the forte and Chorus / KLF-30 models and the horn lens is the same as the Heresy III and Cornwall III's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-KP-250-II-Tweeters-with-Matching-Horns-Model-K-792-KP-Excellent-/282349157443?hash=item41bd523c43:g:yEoAAOSw2xRYfzTn
