  1. There has to be some kind of back story to this. BurningMan? Those probably sound awesome in free space though.
  2. This brings up some important questions. First, are you actually going to make this a 'Rave Cave' and have people dancing in the room or are you just setting up a nice system to sit on the couch and listen to electronic music? Next, what is your budget and what speakers do you currently have? Third, how handy are you in regards to woodworking and electronics? If you really want to get into it. Most electronic dance music venues now run FunktionONE speaker sets which have horn loaded sub woofers. Luckily, you can build your own home version: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-diy-speakers-subs/1329971-lilmike-s-cinema-f-20-a.html More realistically, Derrick hit the nail on the head earlier with the dual 18'' flat packs with an INuke amp. Even a Single 15'' Reference HO sub with 800 Watts will drop the floor out of that room for about $400 if you get the flat pack. You will never get near a true dance club feel with 10'' or 12'' subs. I personally recommend sealed as you dont need them to dig quite a deep and you really dont want chuffing noise. You will never be able to replicate a festival sound in a room. Those systems run tens of thousands of watts into free, open space which is something that you can only get by being outside. However, you can model your room off the gold standard for EDM clubs which is Beta Nightclub in Denver which many top DJs agree is their favorite place to play due to the sound system and setup. As you can see, it is based on high efficiency fully horn loaded speakers. Luckily, this can be achieved at home with a nice set of LaScalas and some good subs. Here is a photo of @Youthman's home theater system which fairly closely replicates the sound system and given your room size will actually be fairly comparable. If you cant budget the $1,200 or so for used LaScalas, the KG 5.5's usually run about $300 and are great for EDM and mesh really well with direct radiating subs. So if you can pony up about $800 then get some KG 5.5s or similar, and a flat pack 15'' sub with an INuke 1000 you will be pretty well set for a decent system. The point here is you can achieve a pretty unreal system at home to rival some of the best clubs in the world but we really need to know what your budget is and how far you are willing to do down the rabbit hole to achieve this. This forum is a great place and we are more than happy to walk you through each step of getting gear and setting up your room. Also, dont post Dropbox links, it looks sketchy and if you want to show songs just paste a youtube link and it integrates into the forum:
  3. The mid driver alone is worth $50. For that price you could build a new cab and paint it black then have a good center channel as long as the drivers are OK.
  4. The is is the same guy that is selling the belles. It looks like they are in good shape, one set is $650 and the other is $675. Academy is $275. https://denver.craigslist.org/ele/d/klipsch-heritage-home-theater/6578205550.html
  5. Lol I dont think you need to worry about the 'cheap amp with inferior parts' issue with that thing. Those speakers will sound great with that amp. You may have to post some pictures when they come in as well. A cool thing about the Forte III is Roy Delgado personally designed them. He was Paul Klipsch's protege back in the day and they worked very closely together. He is also a member on the form as @Chief bonehead and pokes in from time to time give advice and answer questions etc. Much of the horn design on the Forte III came from his work on the professional side and is truly state of the art.
  6. I dont know a lot about multi zone audio but I imagine you could use one or two of these together to get what you need: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-apa102-class-d-stereo-60-wpc-amplifier-auto-on--300-591 Here is a 4 zone amp too but its $475: https://www.parts-express.com/nuvo-nv-d460-4-channel-power-amplifier--301-176
  7. If you can come up with the extra cash, you might want to look into the new Forte III speakers. They are known for being very balanced and have a state of the art mid-range horn. With them being Roy's design, they will most likely hold their value very well.
  8. I personally like Class D quite a bit and they are a good option for your price range. If you want to do Class D, then this is a good option from Dayton Audio at 40 W per channel: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dta-120-class-t-mini-amplifier-60-wpc--300-3800 If you want class A/B, here is another good budget option for the price range: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-apa150-150w-power-amplifier--300-812 It looks like you are setting up a 2 channel stereo so I would stay away from AVR's which can affect the sound and have many more features than you need. What will be the primary source of your music? If you just have a laptop then a quality USB DAC (Digital Audio Converter) like the Schiit Modi 2 or Cambridge Audio DAC Magic 100 are your best bet for $100 to $200. My general rule for audio is the less components from source to speaker, the better off your final sound will be.
  9. Honestly, I would keep the networks you have for now and just re-cap them unless you really want to upgrade. If you do want to upgrade I would get the Crites A/4500 crossovers (https://critesspeakers.com/bk-sound-type-a4500-crossov.html) and his CT120 Tweeters. (https://critesspeakers.com/klipsch_tweeters.html). This is what I have on my LaScalas but I bought them this way. Supposedly the original Klipsch tweeters are fairly fragile and the high crossover point causes issues with the mid horn. Bob's tweeters can plan a little lower and his crossover brings the transfer point down some to keep the high frequencies off the mid horn.
  10. I am a fan of electronic music as well and the Klipsch heritage actually excels at trance and other types of music that have very 'fast' sounds. The horns have a very tactile presence and the immediacy really comes out when you turn the volume up where other speakers start to get muddy. When you finally get it set up, I personally recommend Infected Mushroom's "Never Mind" at the highest SPL you can stand. You can actually feel each and every note they cram in there hit you in the face. Lindsey Stirling's "V-Pop" is amazing as well as you can hear the violin soar above the dubstep beats. When I bought my LaScalas I played Lindsey Stirling to test them out and it convinced the guy to not sell his second pair.
  11. You got a really good deal, usually I see these listed for $500 plus. Anyway, here is the link to a build thread where I bought a single HIP in bad shape and did a complete tear down and restoration to make it into a boombox. There might be some useful info on painting or recapping the networks etc.
  12. If you want a clean front end then this is not a bad option. I am sure the speakers are all tone matched as well for a seamless front soundstage. That is a lot of money for a passive soundbar though. It will be ok for casual TV and low levels but you will never get the big cinema sound that you can get from standalone speakers. Klipsch is having a sale right now and for a little more you can get some good floor standing speakers and a center: http://www.klipsch.com/products/reference-floorstanding-speakers?model=r-28f http://www.klipsch.com/products/klipsch-reference-center-channel-speakers?model=r-25c
  13. It will be pretty funny if Oppo ends up pulling a "Cartman's Amusement Park" and is doing this to drive up demand then later saying they are not actually going out of business.
  14. This is interesting, I will have to add it to my woodworking toolkit. Between this and citristrip you could refinish these and clean them up nicely. The stained woofers I would be concerned about though.
  15. In a way it is good Sessions is doing what he is doing. Because now it will force the issue and congress will have to come to terms with actually passing legislation to legalize or at least decriminalize instead of keeping Cannabis in the strange grey zone limbo its been in the last 10 years.
  16. Those are pretty rough. I am going to file this away with all the other instances of why you never put potted plants on speakers:
  17. UPDATE: I text the guy and he said $950 for the LaScalas which sounds like a good price if all drivers are in good working order. There are some cool looking Crown amps as well. They would clean up well with a fresh coat of satin black paint: https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/msg/d/pro-music-and-pa-gear-for-sale/6564707099.html
  18. I do see what you are saying here and agree with you regarding the matching lines. However, the reality is that the KV-4 is nearly impossible to find and probably not in the budget if it can be procured somewhere across the country. As always, speakers are about managing compromises for each option: Free- Option 1 Phantom: Perfect "timbre match" but voices not locked to the screen. $60- Option 2 KV-3: Better timbre match but much smaller speaker that may cause issues keeping up with the CF-4's leading to possible volume issues. $300- Option 3 KLF-C7: Not as good timbre match but a larger speaker that can better keep up with the CF-4 speakers. Timbre match could be better meshed after running system through Audyssey. So far, in weighing the options, i am more concerned about a center that is too small to keep up with the massive CF-4 mains than the LCR sound stage being a perfect match. If someone else here has run a KV-3 with CF-4's with good results at theater volumes then that will of course sway my decision.
  19. I just heard about this today and am pretty bummed. You literally have to watch his FMJ clips 5 or so times to absorb all the crazy things he says the way he throws them one after another off the top of his head. I am probably going to have a smirk on my face the rest of the day just thinking about them. "Your from Texas..."
  20. Good luck with the sale, the Shure V15 Type III always jumps out as a highly sought after cartridge.
  21. Can the bubbling Veneer be fixed? If so you could probably just: Then:
  22. I reached out to Ken (My Mom's SO) to see if he is down to get it on it as he is the one writing the checks for this. The listing is about 60 days old so hopefully its not sold and the ad accidentally left up. I will contact the guy as soon as I get confirmation from Ken. I was hoping to be able to get away with a phantom but even being off to one side by a foot or two breaks the stereo imaging and pulls the dialog over.
  23. Bob Crites comes through as usual and sells a clean looking set of Heresy slant risers: https://critesspeakers.com/heresy-slant-risers.html
  24. I think its a little tacky personally. At least they should have had a clever tag line like, "See if you can turn her on before she figures out how to turn it on..."
