  1. I've had 5's a long time..I've had 61 II, 160 and 600. I think their latter are pretty similar. The 600 are nice. The 5's however have a different sound and in the room I used em' for music were great with or without a sub. So...use, matching existing and deal (which they're many ) is what would determine my purchase were I in the market. I doubt I'll part with the 5's ever, I did sell the others.
  2. Yep, I'd have no problem with that.

    RIP Jeff Beck

For whatever reason it really bummed me out about Jeff passing on. Many of us grew up with these musicians and to me they are almost like kin folk. I saw Jeff with "The British are Coming" in the early 80's in Dallas. A great chance to see some heros even if in a non audiophile setting. BBA is my all time favorite stuff, but Blow by Blow and Wired were right with it. Then the whammy bar thing and I lost interest for years. As videos became common place it kind of rekindled my interest. He was a Great guitarist, very unique, a bit weird and very moody by all accounts. Hey..nobody is perfect. By the end of this decade most of my musical heros will be gone, me too maybe. That era will be the GOLDEN age of guitar and Rock and will NEVER be repeated or equaled in 1000 years. So...for the next millennium mostly crap that acts like it's music, with an occasional homage to greatness by a few talented historians.
  4. Yeah..this is that chick that always hits on me, I'm going to HR. Said no one EVER !
  5. I don't know if it's been mentioned but..I've had lots of Klipsch and listening at low volumes never seemed quite full. I may just have sensitivity in some frequency but they always fill out when cranked up. At low volumes I get too little bass and too much highs. Fortunately the older radios with loudness compensation cure that for the most part. DB all depends of course, 60 to 70 for just me. Above that with friends. As loud as it can go within physics when partying.

Man...what a s load of wisdom people once popularized.....
  7. The thing about 30's...Why would someone have 30's and not be someone that plays em loud? If you don't need loud there are many speakers that would be a step up in sound quality for similar or less money. Of course ymmv and imo.....
  8. I've powered my 30's with many amps/pres/old receivers. My personal opinion is I would hook em to that 1010 and see if I thought it was good, bad or great. My 30's run on my Sansui 990 and 5000x and was just fantastic to listen to. I also had em on my sx980, again great, just slightly less full but very clean and articulate. I had them hooked to an Anthem mrx700 in my HT, and again no complaints. Even my lowly old Sherwood s7100A made the 30's sound really sweet, quite a surprise. I hooked my 980 to a Parasound hca 1500a, 315watts per at 4ohms. The result was massive bass that had been hidden by the 980 alone. To end it here, you'll need to try different amp/pre to get where you want to be. But ,it's fun....
  9. 2023...The year the chicks come home. So glad I and my kids bought our land, built houses and bought vehicles when blank was still a Great place to live. A truck bought new a few years ago is still worth the same amount as paid. An average house in hickville went up $100,000+. My contractor friends require your checkbook to start the job and charge as they see fit, and that's everywhere cause you can't get workers. You ask any questions and you'd be a difficult customer that they flee from. Oh well...my Grand kids will have a place to live and grow food, unless the powers decide peasants should not own land. I know...that sounds as crazy as dollar a loaf bread, dollar a pack smokes sounded when I was young. Pretty amazing what a couple years can bring. Thumbs sideways....
  10. Too bad about the 3, that would have been great. It's hard to buy one bookshelf so a set would be the next best. Parallel is fine if you have a semi robust amp (4ohm).
  11. Stripe payment processor is second I think to PP. If you have a business that would certainly be one to look at. The rest of us just want to use a PAID FOR service, pay or be paid. We (most of us) do not want our speech "fined" that is lunacy by ANY standard in my, and most of humanities estimation.....
  12. Is it just me or....Is anyone NOT ok with a company that has your bank info threatening speech ??? PAYPAL let slip in their latest terms that if a customer says ANYTHING they don't like, they are SOLE arbiter, anywhere they see it, they can fine YOU $2500, removed from your account . This was removed and claimed an accident after Elon and many others freaked out.
  13. There is a parallel economy in the works, but it's gonna be a while. The ability to buy or sell based two things ,need to buy and need to sell is the way freedom works. Forcing ideas on people through economics is not freedom, it's tyranny....You know an idea is really bad when you have the few FORCE it on the many....
  14. I have 30's and have heard 8's but not side by side. I doubt the 8's would out loud the 30's, they get pretty crazy loud. As to quality of sound, it's mostly in the ear of the listener. The room and gear would have a large impact too. They certainly would be great to restore, regardless. For sound quality Klipsch speakers are not hard to compete with....
  15. I doubt we have control of whether the net stays or not, eventually. For my part, I can go back to 1975,even 85 protocol and be Super Duper HAPPY ! Nothing modern would be an easy trade off considering the damage done by constant interaction of insanity promoted......But..not happening so eventually adults and people with functioning brains will retake the environment. That may be a while, and I always feel like (just thinking) this has all happened before at some long past era.....We went nuts, stopped it and it all started over, then takes a long time to re ruin everything again....
  16. You could go back and see post on my Denons I made 20 years ago, right here. I did all I could for them, amped them with crazy power from Rotel ,Adcom, Parasound etc...I always considered Denon polite ,non offensive, rather boring but not at all bad, just not real musical. Unfortunately I waited a little too long to get back to my roots of old Radios. They were stupid cheap compared to now stupid expensive. I used to tell my friends, that price is crazy. Then next year it's twice higher. 50 then 100 then 200 then 1k, then 2k and still going. The good part is, now I remember why I love music so much. The old radios have that classic sound, each with different character making matching speakers fun again. I have lowly old Sherwoods from the 70's bring more pleasure than 5k worth of high tech modern gadgetry. A Sansui 9090 can bring a feeling never attained with prepro's and mega power ,fantastic specs amps. It may be just me, and thousands of others buying up these old radios that love that sound so YMMV....
  17. When this first came out I was kinda ehh...After listening a few times it became a favorite. Drifter has always been a favorite song since I was about 14.
  18. You all may know but...The reason Duane has hands in his lap and everyone is laughing.... You all have inspired me to put on Jeff Beck -Wired LP
  19. Hmm........Stones and Zeppelin, two really good things about being born in the 20th century.
  20. Long ago, the Great HornEd made a klf 30 into a custom center, pretty cool even if over the top.
  21. Do you have non factory xover in 20's, as that changes everything? Just curious as I have never heard the RC7 described as muddled. Mine is as clear and powerful as any Ref speaker, certainly way more than a 20 or 30.
  22. The RC7 is one of the best reference speakers ever to me. I sold ,at one time, all my reference speakers, but could not part with the RC7, I bought another. I used the RC7 with 20's and 30's. But if your ears tell you different that's all that matters.
  23. Now listening to RF7lll's DTS Master, watching Foreigner " Live at the Rainbow 78" . In this capacity the 7's do everything I need a speaker to do. Loud, clear, dynamic slam just like a live performance should sound. There is nothing I hear I need improvement on. It's all about the cost, for what I have in the 7's they are not likely to be outdone. But..until you hear the JBL 590 you're not gonna guess at the sound and be correct. I bought the 530's, everyone that heard them was floored with their ability. I was so satisfied I bought the 590. The deal...$850 shipped, if you don't like em', free shipping back, full refund. They arrived in a truck on pallet, like factory fresh. They were run modest overnight, then side by side with KLF 30's. The 30's lost their spot, not because they couldn't compete. The 30's need a large room, maybe 20 x 24 x 11, like my old room. The 590 are so balanced they can work anywhere. As to CF's, I recall a thread about them losing their spot to 590's also. There is no new speakers, delivered on a pallet for $850 that beats the 590, thus no competition. For more money...or used...or maybe... Just edited as the CF were not the ones pulled in a thread in another discussion. " I don't have KLF30, but I do have Epic CF-4 which is a better speaker than KLF30 and the 590's get very close to the big Epics. Not quite on their level, but close. I'd imagine the 590's could scare a lot of KLF30 owners and make them admit things they don't want to. Lol I had Chorus II's (with Crites mods) and the 590's sent them to a new home".
  24. Thanks for the interesting video and pdf. I reviewed this video again. I've done my own evaluation and I can agree on some things, others are in ? For starters, flat response or output in audio never really works for me . It's a good target but don't ever sound great to my ears. There can be many things Klipsch considers that I don't know, or maybe this guy also does not know. He sounds pretty knowledgeable but thats tech and not real listening. We can agree that Klipsch is too tight on quality of components. An additional $100 or so on better quality components in a $4k set could make a notable improvement I think. The almost $1k upgrade price and you install is gettin pretty crazy, imo. My solution was $850 delivered and gives me the best of both music and HT. That JBL horn ain't no joke, it's a deal maker, very balanced. I'm not trying to knock my own 7's too much, I'm just not a fanboy type. I call it like I hear it, regardless. The strong point for 7's is in a bigger room, with db's getting up the 7's will impress with shear slam. When cranked up they bring something special to the party. For HT I don't think any mod is needed unless you are strictly concert or a low volume listener. Last, when run through my Anthem w/room correction I barely noticed any shortcomings.
  25. I have the RFlll, and I have found a great way to fix them is set a pair of JBL 590 beside them. That worked great for me, 590 for music and 7lll for movies and concerts. Just one owners opinion that has tried many dozens of pre's/amp's, modern and classic gear.
