Daddy Dee
[Y]Tony, Happy birithday and congrats! You've made one more complete trip around the sun! note to forum members: Things you might not know about Tony Reed. (he's kind of a quiet guy, but he's here every day.) [Y] Tony is one of the two most senior active forum members. (Pzanucci is the other) having joined the forum on 6/12/99!!! There are a few members "on the books" who joined before that, but they are all no longer active. [Y] Tony is a super guy, multi talented, a great Dad and among the few guys I could call 24/7 for help if I was in trouble.Think about it, how many friends do you have who would roll out. in a heartbeat, after midnight if you called? [Y] There is a pic in the forum archives somewhere of the first Klipsch gathering in Hope. The pic is a small group of forum members in the living room of the home of Paul and Valerie Klipsch. Tony is the guy in the pic who is presenting a gift Mr Paul's favorite Irish whiskey: Bushmills! [Y] Tony can build anything to pro spec. La Scala's, gopherwood Heresy's for his boss. PA speakers for my church (with off the shelf Klipsch drivers), repaired and refinished a pair of formerly abused HII's for me. [Y] For years Tony has driven an 18 wheeler (for community service) for out of town FB games for the band at Sheridan HS. [Y] Tony is not only a railroad buff, he is a fully credentialed steam locomotive engineer and has appeared in a movie driving one of those big rascals. [Y] Tony has a flock of sheep to which he attends to their daily needs along with the rest of his family. This is a 4H legacy with his daughter. So during the county fair or state fair, he's hard to find, unless you are walking through the livestock barns at the fair, where you will find him camped out. [Y] Tony has made many trips around the sun with his sweet wife and he takes good care of his mom, too. What else could you want in a buddy? Oh, yeh. forgot to mention he is a conisseur of BBQ. Tony, I'm glad I know you, bro. Also, I know that you are a private guy. Hope I have not caused any embarrassment to you in this post. Apologies in advance, you know how I'm always saying "it's easier to get forgiveness than permission!" []
Moderators dtel Posted March 6, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 6, 2011 Happy Birthday Tony. [^] You right Dee, Tony is a very private guy, I had no idea of some of those things, thanks. He is a close friend of PWK and Mrs Valerie, someone Mrs Valerie really trust. I have been lucky to have talked to him a few times and met his family once in Hope, I have always thought highly of Tony, all you really need to do is talk to him and you will also. thebes
Very cool and happy birthday. Didn't know of your varied and talented background, but this place always has amazed me with the breadth of talent displayed by it's membership. So as a trucker, do you know all the lyrics to The Phantom 309?
Tony Reed
So as a trucker, do you know all the lyrics to The Phantom 309? No, but I can recite "The Wreck of Old 97" and blow a mean grade crossing. Tony
thebes
Spent a summer as a gandy dancer and just shudder when I hear the words "old 97". Nope I'll stick with the teh Phantom 309. Kinda prefer Red Sovine's original over the more popular Tom Waits version. Now don't go running those railroad crossing or you might be the one handing out those thin dimes. PHANTOM 309Recorded by Red SovineWords and music by Tommy FaileRepeat: C/Em/F/G/ - C/Em/F/G/C I was out on the West Coast, tryin' to make a buckAnd things didn't work out, I was down on my luckGot tired a-roamin' and bummin' aroundSo I started thumbin' back East, toward my home town.Made a lot of miles, the first two daysAnd I figured I'd be home in week, if my luck held out this wayBut, the third night I got stranded, way out of townAt a cold, lonely crossroads, rain was pourin' down.I was hungry and freezin', done caught a chillWhen the lights of a big semi topped the hillLord, I sure was glad to hear them air brakes come onAnd I climbed in that cab, where I knew it'd be warm.At the wheel sit a big man, he weighed about two-tenHe stuck out his hand and said with a grin"Big Joe's the name", I told him mineAnd he said: "The name of my rig is Phantom 309."I asked him why he called his rig such a nameHe said: "Son, this old Mack can put 'em all to shameThere ain't a driver, or a rig, a-runnin' any lineAin't seen nothin' but taillights from Phantom 309."Well, we rode and talked the better part of the nightWhen the lights of a truck stop came in sightHe said: "I'm sorry son, this is as far as you go'Cause, I gotta make a turn, just on up the road."Well, he tossed me a dime as he pulled her in lowAnd said: "Have yourself a cup on old Big Joe."When Joe and his rig roared out in the nightIn nothin' flat, he was clean out of sight.Well, I went inside and ordered me a cupTold the waiter Big Joe was settin' me upAw!, you coulda heard a pin drop, it got deathly quietAnd the waiter's face turned kinda white.Well, did I say something wrong? I said with a halfway grinHe said: "Naw, this happens every now and thenEver' driver in here knows Big JoeBut son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago.At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him downThere was a bus load of kids, comin' from townAnd they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hillIt could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheel.Well, Joe lost control, went into a skidAnd gave his life to save that bunch-a kidsAnd there at that crossroads, was the end of the lineFor Big Joe and phantom 309But, every now and then, some hiker'll come byAnd like you, Big Joe'll give 'em a rideHere, have another cup and forget about the dimeKeep it as a souvenir, from Big Joe and Phantom 309!"
