J M O N
I posted this in the music/movie section as well but I'm not sure how many people visit that area so reposting here for a wider audience... I've been looking to get some music together to play for July 4th. I'm looking for songs that sing about things such as freedom, liberty, America, patriotism, U.S. cities/states, etc. The following is what I have come up with thus far. Does anyone have any other good suggestions? The type of music can be any kind, so long as they fall within this theme. Sweet Home Chicago Blues Brothers / Buddy Guy Sweet Home Alabama Lynyrd Skynyrd Hotel California Eagles All My Exes Live in Texas George Strait Arizona Really Was a Blast Scorpions Rocky Mountain High John Denver Born in the USA Bruce Sprinsteen Living in America James Brown San Francisco Days Chris Isaak American Woman Lenny Kravitz/The Guess Who LA Woman The Doors Detroit Rock City Kiss To Live and Die in LA Wang Chung Texas Chris Rea Leaving Las Vegas Sheryl Crow Safe in New York City AC/DC Jesus Just Left Chicago ZZ Top Texas Flood Stevie Ray Vaughan My Head's in Mississippi ZZ Top American Pie Don McLean Santa Fe Van Morrison California Girls Beach Boys Freedom Santana California Dreamin' Mammas and Pappas Dani California Red Hot Chili Peppers R.O.C.K in the USA John Mellencamp Rockin' in the Free World Neil Young Waterfront Property in Arizona George Strait New York, New York Frank Sinatra Englishman In New York Sting New York State of Mind Billy Joel Saturday in the Park Chicago Philadelphia Freedom Elton John By the time I get to Phoenix Glenn Campbell/Marty Robbins California Love 2Pac Viva Las Vegas Elvis Presley Georgia on my Mind Louis Armstrong Tennessee Stud Johnny Cash Ragged Flag Johnny Cash Song Of The Patriot Johnny Cash God Bless the USA Lee Greenwood Back in the USA Chuck Berry I've Been to Memphis Lyle Lovette North Dakota Lyle Lovette Baltimore Lyle Lovette Rockin' in the USA John Mellencamp We're an American Band Grand Funk Young Americans David Bowie American Girl Tom Petty American Soldier Toby Keith Rocky Mountain Way Joe Walsh In a New York Minute Don Henley Miss America Styxx I've Been Everywhere Johnny Cash

CaptnBob
Just throwing this out there for discussion - a lot of the songs on the list, if you get past the title, have lyrics that aren't particularly patriotic. Maybe that's the idea. My own favorites: American Salute - Richard Rogers Stars & Stripes Forever - John Phillip Sousa The Generals' March - Jerry Goldsmith Victory at Sea - Richard Rogers

odysseyrevolver
Born in the USA and Living in America has to be in the top five of the songs listed so far. "Born in the USA" is no celebratory song. It's amazing how people hear the chorus and nothing else. Much like Martina McBride's "Independence Day." Great songs, nonetheless.
Mongo171
Sorry, everyone. My gf just told me that the song I referenced is not called "Proud to be an American." It's "God Bless the USA." [:$]
