By the way, getting an apology from this hunter was probably like pulling teeth...

Who would he apologize to? I realize you are making a joke but this guy made all Americans look bad.

Personally I think this guy is a POS and I think it is too bad that the guides didn't rob him and leave him naked and afraid on the preserve. I encourage hunters that eat what they kill to feel free to continue doing so. For those who want a trophy, take a picture and feel free to tell everyone how close you were and that you could have taken the shot....but chose not to. That is a righteous hunter in my mind.

What this society is lacking is a moral compass. The more people push the envelope the less resistance they are getting. PC is taking over this country in the worst way. Pretty soon WW III will engage and we won't have to worry about it any longer. I for one hope God does not punish us all for the ignorance of the people in charge.

You are going off topic again and our moral compass is just fine...Some folks were saying the same thing when George W Bush was POTUSA and I contend it's better today than it was back then.

I will answer your question if you tell me why you think he has already suffered too much.

Because I don't wish any suffering on anyone no more than those that don't want the lion to suffer.

Oopsie...didn't see any politics involved in my post but....just sayin I was no happier with the state of affairs under the last Prez. No political bias here.

As far as our moral compass, if you do not see anything wrong with the direction this country is taking....wow...is all I can say.

I just saw a post that shared that five elephants were killed for their ivory in the last couple of days since the lion was taken down with nary a word said about them. The situation over there is dire and the wildlife pays the price.

I think we are a pretty advanced country yet our own citizens commit the same mind numbing atrocities right here in North America. Dog fights, cock fights, burning cats alive, hanging dogs from trees. Not sure if these retards are trying to outdo each other or what but the means of neglect and abuse is way out of hand. Punishment in most cases of animal abuse even with so many ASPCA, Humane Societies, etc involved usually is limited to a fine and non ownership of pets for a limited time. Not really suited for the crime commited in most situations

Okay. That is where we differ--I don't give a crap about this dentist and hope his family is as disgusted with his behavior as I am....If he decides to make amends to them and society I will give him a second chance.

hunting and murder for intentional joy arises in people who have no spirit. often called consciousness. they are dead inside EXCEPT for the ego, which tells them they alone are important. they have no established connection with the feelings of other living things. they do not see any connection at all. ego says, only I exist, only I matter, no other thing is more important than I.

others develope spirit inside. they develope a connection to lving things....comraderie? a wholeness that sees other lifes as different but not unimportant. look at a whale and see the intelligence, the caring, the feelings they show for their offsprings. Lions dogs cats have feelings and consciousness. we even love pets, which are just dogs and cats. how about we go dog hunting with bow and arrow and kill all dogs in the neighborhood? hey, they are less than lions, less than humans, might as well have fun shooting them!! get excitement killing all the dogs in the area! mount they heads on the wall too!! sick? how is that sicker than murdering elks or lions for fun?

I hope the big God has special punishment for such unfeeling people. a room alone for eternity with no other living things?

Like Earnest Hemmingway? Chuck Yeager? Bud Grant.

They get their own room?

i don't know much about the motivations of those people when they killed. but sure, if it was for a thrill of killing other living things, why not eternity alone? those names mean nothing by themselves. does writing books give on the right to murder? flying planes? i find it ridicilous to exhonerate a killer because of his other job. it tells me people are not equal, some are so special they cana't be judged.

notice, i did not recommend hell. only a room by themselves to contemplate that they might appreciate other lving things.

I am not aware of any country that considers killing an animal illegally to be murder, not even in India where in some areas animals are considered sacred. It can be described as many things, but muder isn't one of them. It has a particular meaning. There is a fundamental reason for this that relates to how society, values human life and incorporates that value into a legal system.

Here is ten more to add to the room.

http://www.wideopenspaces.com/10-legendary-american-hunters-pics/

Teddy, Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, etc.

right....its not murder by laws, even im not so stupid to think that. it is moral murder, which means his INTENT was unjustified. he plotted and conspired to kill the animal for nothing more than his personal excitement. thats a moral murder in a conscious world where we undwerstand animals have sentience. maybe yuo have never had a pet dog or cat, and you are unaware that animals are sentient, and they have feelings. could be. if you are that unaware, try to understand what is known today about animals. if you know, and you simply feel so superiror that you have the right to kill whichever ones you want for fun or amusement, i pity you.

i do not know if dan boone and dave crocket killed animal for amusement, but i suspect it was more about food. i can not judge those old cases you contonue to bring. I can judge the current one - - a very rich guy that is well fed pays $50000 just because he wants the thrill of that kill of a big lion. nothing to do with survivial, or eating food. its about another big precious animal head on wall and a photograph of The Great White Hunter. BARF!!!

i advise people to get a pet, and learn about their place in the universe with all the other life. you will be shocked at what you learn about animals.

It they added lions to the Endangered Species Act it would make their importation illegal. Or just enact a seperate law, no games animals or parts thereof may be brought into the USA.

I agree with some of your thoughts about the mentality of the trophy hunter. For most of them it about the head on the wall. You make it a felony to bring into the US it cuts off the demand, at least from the USA.

Again, I contend it's the media you watch.

Bringing up "WWIII" in this thread and talking about "moral compasses" and you not understanding is why propaganda works. I agree the USA isn't perfect but I am very proud to be an American and hate when others try to denigrate us by channeling their version of what "God" thinks about people "in charge." ISIS also thinks the same thing about us as the poster you quoted and they worship the same God. {Note: I realize that you don't agree with the last statement, but Christianity and Islam stem from the same Semitic root and have blind faith of their interpretation of sacred words that were in the beginning, Jewish.}

So do I.

I just don't think he needs to suffer just because of some really pathetic, selfish, egotistical choices.  Public scorn is pretty brutal.  Notice I did not say "mistakes" as the "propaganda machines" media often calls these types of situations.

If he decides to make amends to them and society I will give him a second chance.

What will it take for him to earn his way into other's good grace?

Well there is hunting domestically here in the US, none of the animals are endangered, all except varmints or pests are hunted for meat. It is taxed, they raise funds for conservation and lands. In Texas, most western states, Wyoming, Montana, the mid-west, Ohio, Michagan, and others like Wisconsin, a significant percentage of the population hunt. It has been passed down from generation to generation since before the founding.

Then there is fishing is that different? I don't know.

Then there is people who eat beef, chicken and/or pork. Is that different, maybe a little. Veal?

Farm raised duck, goose, elk, venison?

Leather shoes? I have boots made out of Ostrich, American Aligator, Elephant, Sting Ray, Ant Eater, etc.,etc. Ant eater became endangered way after I got my pair.

Mink coat, fox stole, beaver, coyote hood ruff, baby seal.

Should it depend on how beautiful the animal, how cut, how majestic?

There is mointain lion hunting legal in many, many states. Texas and Nevada advertise for them, but the bast majority of the public do not know how they are hunted.

It isn't a complex issue, it is more about when, where, and how you were raised. If you have a wolf or mountain lion eating your sheep, you are going to kill it.

Who was the professional athelete who had to kill a lion with a spear at age 14 as part of his culture? I dont remember a huge outcry about that, maybe because that was more of a fair fight.

In places where you really have to live off the land things are seen differently.

It is a matter of degree, some see a huge difference between eating a veal shank and harvesting a deer. Others maybe not so much.

No. If you kill to get excited like you scored a touchdown in a football game, it's bad... period. We are not taking up the debate between vegetarians and omnivores.

What if you get the thrill from catching a fish, a Marlin, or a giant blue fin?

Is there a difference between the thrill a kid gets when when he/she catches their first fish and the thrill they get when they shoot their first, dove, duck or deer?

Do all hunters have a mental defect, or just ones who hunt for trophys and not the meat?

I didn't see a good answer from Jeff on this one, but it's totally the point I was trying to make about my childhood bee smashing escapades. What's really the difference? Is it not the same drive of any adrenaline junky trying to find their true limits?

Justifying the thrill with "eating meat" is just that - a justification. If you're really trying to feed yourself, then why not just go to the supermarket where it is far more convenient to satisfy the need to eat? That's because hunters enjoy hunting. Why not just embrace it for what it is? Saying it's ok to hunt when you're going to eat the meat is akin to saying you enjoy the color red because it tastes like the wind blowing through your toenails. There is a complete absence of logical connection with these statements.

Either enjoying the sport of hunting is immoral or it isn't.

.

Not really...Nothing dies when wind blows through your toenails....OTOH, killing for food does make sense, regardless if there are supermarkets or not.

Since the lion killer is a rich American WASP, and the lion murder took place in Africa his chances of being penalized in any serious way are nil. He will hire expensive specialists to write and publish apologies to the American media. Money covers a lot of stench.

The best thing that could happen would be that God would enlighten his soul for the benefit of life everywhere, and he would sense that life suffers whether a whale, a lion, or his own children. He needs a conversion of his consciousness.

I'm tellin' you it's the media that is generating that kind of sentiment...Right after 9/11 and before the Iraq invasion the media really did a number on the American people and I assure you it was worse back then. ALL of the channels/outlets were feeding into the propaganda.

Does it matter to the cow if she is killed by a mountain lion, a mechanical killing device at the slaughter house, or the by the farmer who raised her who is going to save that one to feed his family with?

it matters to the entire conscious universe that some people create suffering for fun. If killing lion for fun is perfectly ok, how about fighting pet dogs in rings for good laughs? remmeber the cretin named Michael Vick? let's all gather on main street with dogs, beat them half to death and starve them and set them onto each other for fun. What's the difference? their going to die anyway? what does it matter how they die, or why they die? fun is fun. mike vick should get a medal and put some dog heads on his walls, right?

you keep asking, "whats the differnce?" is it possible you see no distinction in motivations? should we have all those legal defintiions like manslaughter and murder and premediation if motive makes no difference in life? should we have any respect for any animal life at all? I have to wonder. i didn't know so many people had no compassion for animals. im a little sick by the thought.

I don't think it should be legal to bring in the hide or head of a lion into the USA

There are a lot of people who disagee with me on that.

So why was this such, big, big news. Hunting in the US is legal in EVERY state in the US. It is a major source of revenue in many states, directly and indirectly. It is government supported and subsidized.

People are caught all the time in the US hunting illegally. There is zome news about that.

I don't really see a difference between

a pwrson who buys their beef at the supermarket and a guy who raises a cow on his land, lets her roam around and eat good grass, free of chemicals, and then one day his wife says "we are running low on hamburger" and he saunters out his back door with his favorite firearm, takes aim, forms the intent and with premediation, pulls the trigger and shoots it right between the eyes.

Is the difference that some animals are farm raised and others are wild? If a duck is raised on a farm it is alright to kill and eat, but not a wild one?

I dont think buying meat at the supermarket gets someone off the hook for being the reason an animal is killed. Every two breasts person buys means someone, somewhere has got to got out and intentionally kill a chicken.

I don't think intent has anything to do with it. When a person eats meat they do it intentionally, and the result is it kills animals.

I think the difference for a lot of people is whether it is a wild animal or not.

I bet he won't be charged with anything and wouldn't be surprised if he won't have the funds to do much after what this incident has cost him...Seriously, unless he came from money I can't imagine his dental practice will survive and this story will follow him.
