swapface
Another example of how our government gets all sideways on things. They should have quit producing them years ago.
billybobg
They should have quit producing them years ago. And as they disappeared and became rare, they would increase in value and be worth more than a......penny.
wvu80
I love this channel, "Cracked." And since we're on the subject, can we stop selling gas for "tenths" of a cent? I hate that a gallon of gas is $2.89 and nine tenths! Edited November 26, 2015 by wvu80

Islander
Canada got rid of its pennies in 2013. It seemed a little odd at first, but we soon got used to it. When you use a debit or credit card to pay for something, you pay the exact price. However, when you pay with cash, the amount is rounded off to the nearest nickel. This means that you often gain or lose two cents on a purchase. Most people don't seem to mind. If you're picky enough to worry about two cents, only use cash when you gain two cents and use your debit or credit card if the rounding costs you two cents. The end of the penny made little impression on anyone. I don't remember ever even having a conversation with anyone about it. The "no-penny" economy became the new normal overnight, with little or no objection from anyone.
Islander
If you'd like to know more, just Google "Canadian penny", or "end of the penny", or something similar, and you'll get lots hits. I'd include some links, but I'm typing this on my phone, so it's not easy to do that.
mike stehr
John Oliver creating the "Church of Perpetual Exemption" was golden in my opinion. Too bad the seeds got real... John and Wanda Jo aboard the preaching machine.
BusaDude
The penny, nickel and dime can all go away... Round everything, cash, credit or debit to the nearest $0.25 and be done with it. For that matter, you could do away with the half-dollar and dollar coins as well. No one uses them and collectors are mostly the people who want them. Arrow#422
What next, the $1 bill? It's been discussed & debated. Currency without the gold standard is only a promissory note to pay. Unfortunately, currency is on the way out folks. Once that happens, the resulting electronic economy will allow Big Brother to track every cent. juniper
I had a dream about 7yrs ago. People in places, destroyed all the worlds economies, simply to come back to the penny, because it was the currency with the highest intrinsic value.... in this dream, the penny became the new world standard...Sadly, after waking from this dream, I looked up what a penny was made of, and it was no longer made out of just copper....
