I understand this is new territory but with the knowledge infectious disease specialists have why wouldn’t this have been recommend very early on - 3-4 weeks ago. And it may be to give the advantage to medical workers in procuring an already short supply? But wouldn’t less population exposure much reduce the overwhelming cases that hospitals cannot handle now? richieb
I saw the head of Florida’s Emergency Preparedness on the news saying that 3M is selling millions of masks overseas through its distribution network and their CEO saying he has no say in where they are sold. Countries are going direct to distribution with cash in hand to buys and ship millions abroad. True or not this is what the administrator said and he seemed rightly pisssed off. I can’t believe a stop can’t be put on this if indeed this is true .

A true Catch 22 Around here it wouldn't have mattered. People that have jobs that are not considered essential have been given a stay at home order. Everyone is treating it like a vacation and doing just whatever they please. Lowes has been packed. Do you think that everyone has an emergency need for essential hardware or maybe the pretty weather will allow them to mulch their flower beds. One of my employees had the day off yesterday and decided to go shopping several places for a lawn mower and new grill. I told him to stay the hell away from me when he got here this morning. People are idiots.
billybob
There are sites online like Jo Ann, Showing how to make masks. Seems that shop towel stuff in link above offers better protection than Cotten linen. Recommended in going out for shopping.

People are idiots. These are the times I’m glad to live in “fly over” country. Not densely populated and us obedient Midwesterners tend to do what we are told. Our infection rates seem to prove it - for now

Coytee
Wife told me that she heard that as of last night, we (TN) are on a stay at home order. Fortunately, I went into town yesterday....filled with (not seen since college) cheap gas... got some groceries. So I get to go out & cut some trees, cut some fields.... and in general, have my head stuffed into the ground, totally oblivious to what's going on in the world. When I was in town yesterday, I was amazed and reminded at how many people are "business as usual" Then I went back to my hermitage.

Pete H
Why aren't people making masks out of HEPA grade HVAC filter material? Much better rating and I would assume that it may even exceed the N95. Just throwing it out there for those who need something that is a better option where real protection is needed. It can be used just like any other material if you take the edging off and flatten out the pleats and there should be a good supply of them out there. Just looked and there's crap on youtube about it as well.
Woofers and Tweeters
With so many people not going to work, what do you all predict we will be in short supply and higher priced later? My guess is food. Who is putting out a garden this year?
