Air Force One got stuck in the mud when the pilot cut the corner too tight and ran off the edge of the runway.

The reason this is significant is that it was at our local airport in Champaign Illinois and it was the first public appearance the day after Bill Clinton finally admitted that he in fact did "have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky "

....does that count?

If not, last time Foghat was in Central Illinois, met and visited with the entire band after the show.

When Aerosmith was here last time, I had floor tickets right on the stage. Joe Perry asked my wife on stage to dance with him during a song but she chickened out.

Played poker with David Brenner at the Mirage the week it opened.

Met Telly Savalas at Binions Horseshoe one year during the World Series of Poker.

Got smashed on free drinks in a Vegas casino with the drummer from Journey who was hiding out from his manager.

Spent the week in the pits with Don Prudhomme at the 1978 U.S. Nationals at Indy.

Met Don Garlets in 1970 when he stopped to visit a friend's mom in Monticello Illinois.

People I am glad I never met at a poker table before I knew who they were: Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Gus Hansen, Phil Helmueth, Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Chip Reese, Bobby Baldwin, and several others. 2.gif

Had to think about this one...

Took a class from Dean Rusk.

Used to bump into P. L. Newman fairly regularly back in the days when he was running in SCCA.

Met Steve Jobs a couple of times.

Saw lots of "celebrities" when I lived in S.F., but usually just gave them their space.

Some of the 1984 Olympic boxing team came into Pacific Stereo and Mark Breland bought a nice JVC boombox from me.

Lisa Welchel (Blair Warner on Facts of Life) bought a compact system from me at that same store.

Got wasted with Danny Jo Brown and a couple other guys from Molly Hatchet in the parking lot before a concert.

We used to visit Catfish "Man of the Woods" on a regular basis.

That's all I can remember right now.......

Rick.

Edit: Forgot about Randy Moss and Jason Williams. They used to come into another store I worked at (Pied Piper) to buy car stereo stuff. Carl Lee (Vikings) was a regular there, as well.

Oh yea, Billy Ray Cyrus used to shop there, too.

Randy Barnes (shotput record holder, Olympic Gold medalist) lives nearby and we used to talk to him a lot.

Sold a car stereo to Delbert McClinton when I lived in Fort Worth.

Scott Kalitta, John Force, Eddie Hill, and quite a few others in '99 at the Brainerd International Raceway ( BIR ). Got several autographs when they had to wait to run Top Fuel, it had rained a bit and they were drying the track. There were several cars in the staging lanes, seperated by crew vehicles, most were covered with tarps.

nicholtl,

Is that famous, or infamous? Exactly what are you planning, and should the Authorities be notified?

In 10 years time, watch what will then be the 85th Annual Academy Awards. When the category of Best Director comes up, that'll be me. =)

Great thread first original one I have seen in years. Made me think of a life in snippets:

Interned with Phil Byrne, St. Paul Assistant City Attorney, does that count?

Shadow study with Judge Roland J. Faricy Jr. does that count?

Worked with George Latimer, 14 years as Mayor of St. Paul, MN. in the seventies, does that count as famous?

Met big mucky-muck Democrat organizer in a draft Ted Kennedy committee, but cant remember his name and he didnt look much like his pictures, does that count?

As an usher through-out most of college, saw most of the MN Vikings several times in the late 70s when I worked the player entrance. I think I got the position more often than others because I didnt care about football then and did not talk to the players. Man, those guys are big and they wore heels as high as women! Worked about 400 events.

Attended speeches by JFK writer Ted Sorenson, authors Alex Haley and John Sanford (walked with him to his car).

Worked backstage for John Phillips?, Chubby Checker, Commodores, Aerosmith, Black Oak Arkansas, Grateful Dead (boy, did the police show up in force for them and were they ever disappointed!), Lynard Skynard and many others. The Who snuck in wearing suits while a limo with decoys pulled in through the main tunnel entrance.

Worked on star-shaped stage (briefly) with Mick Jagger in the late 70s. When the spotlight came, on him, he moved to the front. I stayed, guarding the tip of the star near the balcony for the rest of the show.

Katherine Hepburn yelled at me (twice) for not airing out a old musty theater all day long (when I was there only an hour before her Matter of Gravity play).

Smoked and ate backstage with Janis Ian and her crew (she left right away).

Offered chauffer position with Grover Washington Jr. but had college to finish (oh, the roads we could travel)!

Met Gov. Dukakis at Bostons Faneuil Hall when he was running for President (our SS men and women are dead-eye scary!).

Met Warren Beatty at Disney, when he was not running for President. Boy, he wears a lot of make-up!

Dinner with Tokyo String Quartet in NH. Simply wonderful.

Saw Jack Nicholson in Cocoanut Grove, Miami, prancing back and forth with his bodyguard as if somebody should recognize him.

Saw Martina Navratilova with a huge woman in a pink dress in a super market in Worcester, MA, the day before she played a match.

Met Celine Dion briefly at Publix in Palm Beach Gardens, before she moved to the far more expensive Admirals Cove community in Jupiter, FL. The cashiers stooped working and I couldnt figure out why. Celine is small! She apologized to my ex for the delay.

Brokers I worked with crashed one of the Donalds parties at Mar a Largo. Said he is a sleaze.

Met Mr. Abbassino - whose private credit card company, Applied Card Systems/Cross County Bank, is worth billions along with the local Florida politicians.

Drafted brief personal autobiography for PBG multi-millionaire (300? 500?) cattle rancher/land speculator Charles and Judy Vavrus last year.

Backstage with Rush a couple of times. Of course they didn't remember me. Neil Peart got me playing drums.

Robert Plant in El paso Texas.

A few more backstages but those were the best.

Nick Nolte, Jo Beth Williams and Judd Hirsh at the screening of the movie Teachers in Columbus, Ohio.

Jack Nicklaus, Tiger and few others at Memorial tourny.

Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and some others from the eighties.

Lots of Bluegrass stars in the seventies and early eighties..Bill Monroe, Flatt and Sgruggs and so on.

Not too exciting but memorable1.gif

Dale Earnhardt Sr at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. He came over to check out the modified's and "said that thing is like a go cart with a V8!" The team I was their with sat around after race activity was over and sot the bull and had a couple of beeers. He was regular guy and a great story teller too. Hey we were camped next to them at the track.

Dale Earnhardt jr at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania. He and his crew met us for dinner.

Jeff Gordon, Terry and Bobby LaBonte, Mark Martin. Darrel and Michael Waltrip, Richard Petty, Davey and Bobby Allison, Alan Kulwicky, Rick Hendrick, Jack Roush, and Bill France. But the best was Richard Childress at his shops in North Carolina a real down to earth guy that can talk about anything.

Racing had consumed my life for 10 years as a machinist and general mechanic. It sure was fun. Now I just go once in a while and watch.
