I had my first taste of whisky last night. I've never been interested in drinking alcohol. I had a rum and coke once and thought to myself that it was a good way to ruin a perfectly good glass of Coke.

Very rarely I'll drink a beer, we're talking only a few in a year.

But I tried the whisky because my friend made me. He said it was one of the best made. I was curious to know if drinking something so putrid tasting was for the taste that I obviously just don't get, or if it was for the buzz. He put a little water in with it and a few ice cubes. It went down smooth, but the aftertaste was just aweful. I thought the ice was made from stagnant water or something. He assured me that's how it's supposed to taste. "Like a moldy dish-rag", I said?

I dont' know, I just don't get it. Part of me would like to be able to enjoy a little nip now and again in social settings. I guess I'll have to try a few different liquors.

Try a martini made with a good vodka (not gin). Stoli, shaken,

up, one olive would be a good place to start. With vodka, it's not

bitter and there's less hangover potential.
