Pay attention to set up, sweat the details. Speaker placement, room treatment, placement of your listening seat, etc. These things will reap more dividends than that new amplifier you have your eye on. Get these thing right, and if all else is up to snuff, you will impress your dinner guests...... Shakey3 points

These are being sold locally, and I've never seen a version exactly like this. Seller says all the drivers are original, but he doesn't know much beyond that except that they sound good. Thanks for the help!1 point

They were revealed at the technology show thing in Vegas last week. Both models are similar in wattage to the 3390 and 3490. These new models have wireless connectivity. Don't let their website fool you with the 3770 model being 240 watts. It's 120 watts per channel and they doubled that figure.....? At first read I thought it was 240 per channel!1 point

Real estate and commodities and equities should all be a part of it. Keep balanced, that is how you spread risk. If your consider yourself to be an investor that is. I am not a speculator so I can give no valid advice on how to do it.1 point

I'm firmly in the NO camp when it comes to Murphy's Oil "soap". Some, however, like the added contrast it adds to the grain. In my opinion, it almost ruined my 1962 mahogany lacquer K-horns.There was a long thread on Murphy's 2 or 3 years ago. Gil McDermott weighed in strongly on the negative side, with his usual mastery of detail. You can probably search out the thread under "Murphy's." Formby's Lemon Oil has freshened up mine for short periods of time. I think this falls under "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."1 point

one problem I am having is the VAST differences in sound quality coming from my system depending on recording... it really sucks. I tune the system to a recording or over a few recordings averaging them out... then I pop on something else and it's way off (bass heavy)... then i pop on another recording and it sounds extremely thin.1 point

I think I just spend too much time on the other forums/sites and not enough time here in "practical land". The computer audiophile guys argue down to the PC SATA cables and x brand vs y brand of hard drive used. I'm waiting for someone to design a noiseless air filter to increase your sound wave fidelity and purify your wireless data transmissions. I guess i just wondered if maybe I was too generous in my appreciation of gear and not nearly serious enough about this whole endeavor if I can't find any sort of worthwhile critique as i listen. Maybe I've just been spoiled by hearing already well sorted systems.1 point

Wouldn't say I never visit the "mess around a bit" area of my equipment... It CAN be fun but I am usually not rewarded with a "revelatory" experience. To the extent we all enjoy our systems for WHATEVER reasons, they are good things. I've made it clear over the years I do not in anyway disbelieve another audiophile who says they can tell the difference between one interconnect and another. I have no reason to doubt them and just because I can't...and don't really want to, in no way invalidates their experience. I can tell two things about interconnects: 1. When they are working. 2. When they are not. Dave1 point

If you are good at packing, and it sounds like you are, it should be a non issue. The only problem is, the buyer is the one that has to have confidence in your ability. As for me, not having the original box is not a deal breaker. But the sale price should be adjusted (minimally) for this. Shakey1 point

When I see that a person has taken the time (and space) to save an original box, it tells me that he's careful with his gear. My thinking is that if he cares enough about the box, he certainly cares about and for the contents more. Of course, that may or may not be true, but that's my take. I don't know whether the box commands a premium though.1 point

What I found over the years is that when it comes to Klipsch bigger is better. No Khorn or lascala ever competed with the sound qualities of a properly implemented MCM setup if you get what I'm saying. If you want more true to life "live" sound.......go bigger. Go as big as you can.1 point

I think for most... we are really only ever going to be able to judge something in relation to what it is you have personally experienced, prior to. this is true for most anything, was this car faster than the last... was this movie better than the best you've seen and so on. the key, as already stated, is mixing in as much critical listening in your life experience as possible... including live scenarios. my current system is NO WHERE near as good as the best system I have ever heard, that honor goes to a iMax klipsch equipped theater near me, but my system is as good as it can be.... for now.1 point

Excellent advice about verifying the accuracy of your meter. That said, I've encountered problems where the leads from the meter to the entrance panel (typically aluminum) were not properly tightened, or not treated with a product like Noalox. The latter situation can cause a high resistance connection which can not only decrease the voltage to the home, but also can result in a fire hazard due to possible heating effects. The power company will certainly come out at no charge to verify that the voltage to the meter is within spec. If it isn't, it's their job to repair things at no charge. If the voltage is correct, then you (or the landlord) will need an electrician to come in and do the repair. Don't attempt to do this yourself as one mistake can do you in! Maynard1 point

I think somebody posted this here but I can't find it... anyway it is an interesting story and he connects you with some good advice: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue66/reader9.htm It is surprising how a person can adapt and get used to sound that is really pretty bad! I think the imagination must pick up what the system leaves out. Ever get to Atlanta? Go visit this guy and hear a reference for how lousy your system really does sound... BUT, take heart, you CAN make it better! http://getbettersound.com/roomplay-reference.html1 point

A friend of mine "came across" over 120k songs on a HD as well a couple of years ago. Man, with that many songs I would have to bet that ever single Britney Spears song is on there. Ron1 point
