  5. La Scalas don't dig deep, but they do 80 Hz and above very well! Better than the Heresy! What would you use as center? surrounds? Three LS II in the front would be awesome.

  6. A friend had a Volvo many years ago, very safe and was relievable, it was not a wagon just a box. Every teased him and said he drove a shoebox but with less curves.

  7. If you go Heritage, invest in a quality sub (or two) and then buy Heresies for the other 5 channels. Since your content is mostly movies, there's no point in spending money on speakers that can dig deep when you're just going to cross them over at 80hz to the sub anyways.

  10. I had looked it up a good while back, we are right on the outer edge of where they say the long range antenna should work. I decided to skip it because of the expensive and possibly no signal, between tall trees and being on the fringe of the range it could all be a waste ? When we first moved out here I set up a big antenna on a 25' pole, we got about 2.5 stations and there was no cable here so we ended up with satellite. I ended up using the antenna for FM radio, after about a year I took it all down. I was afraid of lightning frying all the stereo stuff, it just was not worth it for FM radio and all it's commercials, but I did get a crazy amount of FM stations.

  12. Yup.......... this is another nurse who worked with the Ebola patient. WHO now estimates that in Liberia that there are 1000 new cases of Ebola per week. Within a month they expect this will increase to 10K new cases per week. We've had one case and so far 2 healthcare providers have been cross contaminated. This is where the feds have their presumptions so wrong. Our healthcare systems are not in the least able to manage masses or even a few cases of Ebola. They are not tuned into intense isolation procedures. They had better be more circumspect about keeping Ebola off of the American continents - that means South America too. If Ebola gets started in South America it will be just as prolific as it is in Africa now - and it will be right next door - and our borders are essentially wide open.

  13. I wish we could get FTA here but were to far away, I hear the quality is good. Good deal a tv in the cave, if you have wireless you could get videos and play it through you cave speakers. Everyone can get FTA if the Antenna is correct for the location, you would likely need a long range Wineguard and a rotor. Im in the Burbs, so FTA is not a big deal, im going for long range Frisco stations. Pic is that of my current scanner Ant pickin up 13 stations w/fade now and again.

  14. Wednesday, ok, morning gang. Not much done yesterday, rain drizzel was predicted, covered the boat, mowed the lawn and Taco Tuesday kind of burned up my day. Wake up to yep, Drizzel, just enough rain for breddin Skitters. Easy day, today i wire in the FTA leed(s), still hooked up to the old scanner Ant, have rain fade and screen freeze on a dry day with that thing. First cup w/Duggans done, going for second.

  16. Truly airborne means the virus can survive for hours on naturally air buoyant material like dust, etc. Ebola cannot do that. Measles can do that. A person infected with measles will contaminate a closed space for several hours after they've left that space and anyone entering that space that is susceptible can catch the measles during those many hours. Ebola does spread by droplet - so yeah - aerosols caused by sneezing and coughing will carry Ebola and if inhaled - or if they fall on skin - can infect. They also contaminate surfaces for a certain period of time. When Ebola becomes contagious I think is open to debate. It has to vary according to preexisting circumstances. Peoples with existing lung disease naturally produce and expel, more mucous when they are healthy. Will they expel Ebola sooner than a person with healthy lungs? Ebola is reaching a critical epidemic state in these primary African countries. The house of cards is falling faster than it can be reinforced. I really wished that we had not sent our troops into the maw of this mess. With all due respect the military is not famous for detailed work and the minutest of mistakes has huge consequences with Ebola.

  17. There's nothing wrong with doing any of those things if that's what you want to do. The debate is whether or not it affects what you hear.

  21. We like our Volvo wagon. Plenty of room for the trip down to the coast. Nancy like it for it's safety features. It does handle nicely. It could handle the mountains last July, but we went together in a rental Ford Edge. At times, I felt like we were almost over it. Good brakes, a must!

  23. Here is my Quarter pie theater, the pics have been in the Quarter Pie thread but I will put them here as well for those who don't frequent that sectiopn of the forum) The pics are of the front three, I have two more QPs for surround left/right, and KPT-100s for rear (though they are currently disconnected, they just can't really hand with the big boys).

  26. The second they identified that first nurse with Ebola they should have immediately quaranteened all the others. Even after she was diagnosed the head of the CDC said 'there may be more.' Well, then why are you letting them all run around?? Surprising to me is, none of Duncan's relatives seem to be showing any symptoms. At least the news isn't reporting anything, that I've heard. They are the ones who lived in the house with him for days after he showed signs...that's a mind-bender.

  27. I think that's where my biggest problem would be, 75'-100' trees on most sides of me, between that and being on the fringe I don't think I have a shot. Well I'm off to go cut some grass, my sisters grass about a mile away and then the rest of mine. So this is extra music time for me, earbuds with ear muffs on top of that, this way I don't need to turn it up to drown pout the tractor noise, works great and relaxing.

  28. The underlying theme to all of these threads is people trying to convince other people that their preference is the best. It would be much more productive for us to argue about Artist vs. Artist or Album vs. Album (of the same artist) regardless of the medium each of us uses to hear it. My first exposure to Doc Severinsen was through a horrible vinyl record - tons of pops and cracks and skips, and not even a proper album cover. But WOW, what an album!! I played the crap out of it because I enjoyed the music. I've since downloaded a copy of it for digital playback and it sounds different without all of the horrendous noise, but I still dig the music of the album itself. http://www.allmusic.com/album/brass-on-ivory-mw0000262400 You guys have a wealth of music knowledge that gets lost and overshadowed by format wars. kids need to know about Hank Mobley and Jan Garbarek - not reel-to-reel superiority, stylus choices, inherent flaws of CD medium, or how crappy mp3's are. I strongly suggest that as you guys continue to get older you shift your focus from arguing the most granular details of a music format to creating a searchable history of music (both critique and praise).

  29. Perhaps we could be a little more helpful to someone who would probably appreciate a thoughtful explanation and recommendation. That said, the gauge of wire you use should be dependent on the length of the run to your speakers. The longer the run, the larger the gauge of wire you should use (a smaller number). For most applications, unless your room is huge and there are a lot of obstacles between amplifier and speakers, 12 gauge should be more than fine. IMHO 10 gauge is overkill and of course costs more. Most of the Knuconcepts line is excellent and I use it myself. Also be sure to use good quality connectors on both the amp and speaker sides. Banana plugs, spades, pins are dependent on the connection points on each side. Using bare wire to hook up without connectors is inviting trouble.....

  30. Winegard near fringe is what we are using. Height should be high enough to be able to clear solid obstacles and to be able to trim height as height does not always get it. FTA is abbre. usually used for satellite. And OTA typically, is your locals. We use a pre-amp channel master amp with great success. Was wishing Mark rain for the forest fires. Hope he doesn't get into antenna stacking. Don't know much but was in satellite and off-air for a quarter of a century. Would say I miss it but, thanks to the occasional storm, I am reminded.

  32. Playing a record wears the vinyl causing, high frequency losses. A used record doesn't contain nearly the quality of sound that it had when new. Years ago Audio magazine ran tests that indicated playing a record a couple dozen times knocked the high freqs down to 12 kHz max. I confirmed for myself that a new record sounded much better than one that was several years old. When the highs are gone there is nothing that will bring them back. You may be able to wet play the record and extend its life, but that's very messy. There are really too many variables to make this statement valid. It may be true in some cases, but it would take a scientific peer-reviewed investigation! Maybe with one of those Crosley devices, but surely not with a Shibata stylus! Geoff The tests Audio ran were properly done. Some of the cartridges used in the tests used Shibata styli - HF losses still occurred. It has to do with dirt and the vinyl material itself, with the dirt acting as an abrasive (it's harder than the vinyl so wear occurs).

  33. Folks, these speakers are perfect for framing a flat panel TV for a 3.1 setup(add sub) in a secondary HT rig. I have been enjoying the full RVX-42 HT system in my master bedroom for over 5 years and have owned them for even longer. Very solidly built cast aluminum construction. Good luck with your sale. Bill

  34. Billy, Please, take a deep breath, and one large step backward--away from the ledge. We have located your meds and they will be here shortly. I have 4.2s, and can only imagine how much more your 5.5s offer. Actually, I would buy them (but for the distance to St. Louis), if only to do a "favor" for a Klipsch brother . . . . Guess you have a lot of good speakers, and don't "need" these?

  35. Thanks for the pic. I have dual cab sealed subs and use one I Nuke 6000 DSP channel of the amp per driver. These are great drivers and if you are bottoming out the driver, you are using to much PEQ, bass boost, filter gain, or you don't have enough headroom. Set the limiters If you need some help, send me a PM. This way we will not hijack the thread. The sub looks great! what a waste! These amps are not set up for sub duty at all from the factory. Your selling your setup short man. If dig into them as soon as possible.

  41. I have Audyssey, but I am not sure which one. My receiver is a 2010 Onkyo. The optimization I was talking about was for the actual acoustic treatments in the room, not the equalization, etc. I went ahead and did it for both rows, so I hope the money is well spent. The design is being worked on now.

  42. The news reported that 150 people PER DAY arrive in the U.S. from the three West African countries. And think about this story on top of that, you can bribe someone to let you give a typical burial to a family member who died from Ebola, they will change the cause of death for a price. It's not going to end anytime soon. http://news.yahoo.com/ebola-families-bodies-bribes-153423993.html The human heart is so depraved … i keep saying that nothing will surprise me anymore--then mankind hits a new low.

  43. I'm guessing some of your music is newer than that? I run all tube set-ups. Bare chassis tube amps, tube pre-amp and the whole works but I run modern CDs players. There are no good arguments for running vintage CD players for any other reason than looks but at that point you are not talking audio anymore you are decorating.

  46. I've been a member of this forum for a while and have met several of you in person. I do not currently own any Klipsch but continue to read here because of the geniune courtesy and interest of the mebership as a whole. I've learned a lot from many of you and am grateful for that. Reading this thread, and other recent threads, I am a disappointed at the eagerness to disdain the path others have taked toward their own personal quest toward their own audio nirvana. This hobbey has long been about experiments, individual quests, and discussions among friends. If i choose to place my speaker wires on top of wooden blocks, or say a little prayer upon every record I place upon my turntable, or run my associated cords at perfect perpendicular angles to one another in the name of good sound and musical enjoyment, is that not in a general sense among the same vane that we all come to this forum for? Seriously, look around the web and tell me that it isn't a bit silly to condemn one of our own for these "infractions".
